world cup, ITV OR BBC ?

Post by Wile E Coyote » Sun Jun 17, 2018 12:09 am

BBC for me, they have both gradually snuck in these obscure female women footballers masquerading as pundits for some inexplicable reason ,they sound like someone's girlfriend who has read up on the rules to make converstion, but BBC still outshine the dross on the other channel.
ian wright floats between both like a bluebottle, irritating and needs swatting.
Roy Keane was useful about ten years ago for his simmering wrath, but now he just sits there looking thick.
Jenus loves himself, but is a dud, still ten time better than the advertising frenzied commercial effluence of ITV though.

That "girlfriend who has read up on the rules to make conversation" has played 102 times for England. What's your tally?

every single word you have said there is correct.

the bbc is still the best but the positive discrimination is cringeworthy.

but who do you choose? dublin is far too clever for this lark.

Listening to a Croatian a Welshman and a young Nigerian born female footballer discussing the ins and outs of a game of football seems a bit Irish to me!

BBC and ITV are both rubbish these days.

Back in 1974, ITV had a proper world cup panel - Brian Clough, Brian Moore, Derek Dougan, Malcolm Allison, Jack Charlton .... and Peter Sutcliffe.

Racist, nationalistic and sexist, are white English working classes the only people in your opinion that should be on tv football programmes. Time to join the 21st century.

Same here, watched all 4 games yesterday and zero analysis. If you’ve got some issue with listening to women talk about football, just watch Top Gear repeats on Dave right up until kick off.

Don’t really get the point of pundits no matter their colour creed or gender. I find I am pretty capable of watching a game and having my own opinion.

I now also don’t see the point of these tunnel interviewers anymore who’ve gone from asking the coach about the game to trying to catch the coach out with questions which might create the next Fleet Street scoop.

I can't say I have a preference. I just sometimes listen to what they've said and then watch the football.

Phil Neville on the BBC has come out with some good points, but so too has Bilic on ITV - although I don't expect to see both Roy Keane and Slaven Bilic in the same studio anytime soon, or if so, not sat next to eachother. They don't appear to like eachother very much going off the vibes.

I don't have any problem with female commentators - you have got that job because of their ability to commentate on the game, anyone can do that regardless of sex. I do have a problem when they are providing expert analysis though because although they have played at international level they can't give you a true insight as there was nothing like the same level of scrutiny, pressure and intensity in the women's game than in the men's. The role of the 'expert' should be to provide an insight that a media journalist can't. I fully admit that many male ex-footballer's don't do that - however that's a problem for the Beeb or ITV who should replace them with people who do.

I suppose it is like having an England international semi pro on the panel. Has represented England, knows the rules, but played at a far lower standard than what we are watching.

If BBC rolled out a male semi pro, would you not wonder why?
