The FA and press are an absolute disgrace.

Great watch

There were some fine fine margins over the last 30 odd years of supporting England

Come seven o’clock tomorrow night, no matter what’s gone before, if the hairs on the back of your neck aren’t standing up just a little, you’re dead inside

Come on England

Just watched it. Very strange how the media have helped to ruin their own country's chances in recent years. As mentioned in the programme, Southgate doesn't care about them and rightly so.

This is the media run by an Australian who became an American for monetary gain and Canadians.

The Spanish, German, Italian and French media are equally as ruthless if it doesn't go well for them!

Good program. I'd always liked to have seen how Venables and Hoddle would have done over a longer period. It was a disgrace that Hodgson stayed in the job after Brazil.

Not the same - we unravelled and were deservedly beaten by Iceland, whereas Argentina couldn't break them down. I enjoyed the documentary but a lot of us have been culpable with our unrealistic expectations of the national side. Henry Winter's comment at the end was said with a chilling smile - words to the effect of 'it's been good Gareth but don't lose to Panama'.

Was it the Graham Taylor one?

The bit with Rob Sheperd in the press conference was a classic.

..... and David Davies goes on for ever at the FA!
Pontificates, takes decisions but never the blame - a shameless shyster.

Certainly an interesting watch. The press really have helped to scupper our chances over the years. I liked Capello talking about the ghost of 66 hanging around. We have to leave that baggage behind if we're going to move forward. Also, the McClaren appointment looks as odd today as it did at the time.

Venables, certainly, but not Hoddle. Hoddle played his own part in his downfall.

It’s irrelevant who the manager is we are just not good enough it’s as simple as that, but I think we will win tonight.

Great watch.
A few things stood out for me.

I do feel sorry for Allardyce. Yes he was wrong to have done what he did, though the way he was outed was cruel. Like him or not he was beaming to be England manager, and you could feel the pain and heartbreak it has caused him. Gave a very honest answer in saying he was jealous he wasn't taking them to the world cup, I think if England were to do well he'd really struggle.

Southgate's heartbreak at Euro 96 has made him mentally strong which may help him be able to deal with anything this World Cup, including helping his players.

Kevin Keegan refers to himself as Kevin Keegan an awful lot.

enjoyed the show
I do feel sorry for Allardyce but he was totally stupid and his own fault like some of the others
The Hoddle thing still baffles me but we'll never know what might have been
I was sure the 5-1 win over Germany was under Keegan, age catching up on me and was surprised to find out how wrong I was
some of the earlier ones I had no about but it was interesting
FA proved themselves time after time as incompetent when choosing a Manager, the Wally with the Brolly being there pinnacle of incompetence for me.

As Billy Balfour would say - referring to oneself in third person is a sure sign that something isn't quite right.

Just watched it and thought it was excellent. Thought Sven came across well. Would’ve have loved Venables and Hoddle given more time. Hopefully Southgate will be a success.

Didn't Cotterrell (spelling?) say he would one day like to be England manager?
