Cannabis Medicines
If oil (not smokeable) cannabis was to be legalised then supplies should be dirt cheap as production costs are low and no R and D costs. Don't want to see smoking it being legal.
Re: Cannabis Medicines
You don’t want to see smoking weed legalised because? You feel it’s your business to tell people what they can and can’t do? Nanny state person, that hates anyone else enjoying themselves? Presumably you don’t drink alcohol or coffee - both of which being more toxic than weed - or if you do, how do you justify your hypocrisy?

Yes it’s a pity some don’t take five to think things through before responding on here.

Overreaction? I just questioned why.
Re: Cannabis Medicines
And yes, heroin should be decriminalised. The war on drugs failed a long time ago.

Re: Cannabis Medicines
Medicinal oil should be legalised, it's almost a no-brainer.
There's also a pretty strong case for legalising cannabis to smoke recreationally IMO. This would give some control over the strength/quality of the product and should raise a fair bit of revenue (assuming tobacco-like tax levels). The tax revenue could be used for something useful for the UK population (eg NHS, more beat coppers etc). It's possible that crime/police work will be cut too (but it still leaves coke/harder drugs to be policed).
I haven't used cannabis for c 40 years now (so no personal involvement) and wouldnt even if legalised. Nothing against it but I dont inhale any smokes at all nowadays, I just like a very occasional cigar.

The Portuguese decriminalised heroin and the number of users is now estimated to be around 25,000, down from 100,000 when the policy first began. Also, as you can probably guess, crime has fallen too, but let's keep the old failed policies because it pacifies the tabloid press and the ill-informed.

Re: Cannabis Medicines
Strange that they don’t permit the use of cannabis for medical usage since heroin (diamorphine) has been used for yonks. Speaks volumes about how our politicians are led by fear of being seen to be soft on drugs instead of having the courage to use common sense.

Like most legislation it usually comes down to balance and enforcement.
Re: Cannabis Medicines
It seems to work for the young lad who was fitting therefore I think it should be allowed. I know a guy with MS and smoking cannabis is the only thing that touches his pain and relaxes his joints/muscles.
Re: Cannabis Medicines
Cannabis raises blood pressure which can cause heart problems, a fact that seems to be ignored.

in the first 6 months in Nevada alone the government made $30 million from Tax on cannabis - they could pay for the nhs within a year if they did the same in the UK

How do you work out that the NHS could be paid for within a year?Vegas Claret wrote:in the first 6 months in Nevada alone the government made $30 million from Tax on cannabis - they could pay for the nhs within a year if they did the same in the UK

Re: Cannabis Medicines
well if Nevada has taken in 30 million in 6 months with only really 2 major cities in the state then you would expect the UK Government to take in considerably more. It was a throw away comment but I would expect the UK Government to be able to take in at least 4-500 million in tax on weed judging by what happens in the US - 500 million would be a considerable contribution per year towards the NHS would you not say ?taio wrote:How do you work out that the NHS could be paid for within a year?
Re: Cannabis Medicines
You orginally said NHS could be paid for within a year. You're now saying it could generate enough tax to pay 0.4% of the NHS budget.Vegas Claret wrote:well if Nevada has taken in 30 million in 6 months with only really 2 major cities in the state then you would expect the UK Government to take in considerably more. Either way, 500 million is still better than zero - and how do you know that 500 million is 0.4% of the NHS budget ?

Re: Cannabis Medicines
Lets not forget the "hidden savings" to the NHS of the over-prescribed harmful drugs that are currently legal yet expensive to prescribe.
Take for example my own personal treatment for a long term chronic illness where cannabis has been massively effective in many clinical trials, almost to the extent of curing my "incurable" illness in the majority of cases. My current treatment costs approximately £2500 every 8 weeks for the chemotherapy type drugs that I have to have just to keep me well (yet mean I have much higher risk of cancer) - this, in my mind, is the large Pharmaceutical Companies "creating" profit from the NHS at the tax payers expense.
The objections to legalising cannabis is likely to be driven by shareholders and stakeholders in these large multinational companies more than their puppet politicians (damn, I'm having a Blue Lab moment here... sorry!).

Yet it's been found to lower blood pressure long term. In fact studies done show it could be a viable replacement for drugs such as beta blockers - which do increase blood pressure.joey13 wrote:Cannabis raises blood pressure which can cause heart problems, a fact that seems to be ignored.

For me, it's silly we try and control people, if a junkie wants to kill himself on heroin, allow him to do so but make him buy it legally so the economy benefits and not the grimey drug dealers selling it illegally.joey13 wrote:Cannabis raises blood pressure which can cause heart problems, a fact that seems to be ignored.

Everyone knows there are medical benefits to it but the Tories are probably too worried what the Daily Mail will think so we'll plod on with our archaic drug laws that aren't fit for purpose.

Drugs are bad, Mmkay.
Re: Cannabis Medicines
I remember reading that legalising weed would save the country £20 Billion a year. Decriminalising the lot and actually looking after addicts would save many times more than that. Consider the fact that 80% of prison inmates serving sentences for petty offences have addiction problems. People stealing to feed addictions. How much would crime fall by if people didn’t have to steal to feed their addiction? How many fewer people would we have in prison? What would everyone save on insurance? Police work would be greatly reduced, and organised crime stripped of a profit source. It is the single best thing we could do as a country.

Smoking it in public, including on the street, shouldn't be legal. Neither should smoking anyway. But I've no problem decriminalising it and allowing people to smoke it in private. And using it in edibles should be legal where ever.AndrewJB wrote:You don’t want to see smoking weed legalised because? You feel it’s your business to tell people what they can and can’t do? Oh look, Canada, under the leadership of the strong and sensible Trudeau have just legalised the recreational use of it.
How progressive of them.
It's a bit like discovering tobacco in 2018 and finding it OK to release it to the public.

If you want to know what drugs do to a place just visit Manchester, the ‘war on drugs’ has certainly been lost there, it gets worse week by week. If you think that legalising all drugs and selling them in every corner shop will decrease the number of drug users then you’re really are deluded. If you think that drug uses are only hurting themselves then you are very wrong. Do you think seriously think children growing up with parents addicted to crack and or heroin is good for them? And if people are seriously comparing a drug addiction, such as being addicted to heroin, to eating pizza then please, please stop this planet because I want to get off!

New Mex is a medical marijuana state. There are specialist doctors that only prescribe it. Certainly, for pain control and pressure related symptoms, it seems to work well.
