UpTheClaretsFCBK wrote:Actually, it’s excellent to see supporters who are showing total solidarity with the plight of our disabled fans.
We’ve been campaigning for years for better facilities. We endure snow, rain and sub zero temperatures to watch Burnley without proper cover.
Some of our members endure great physical pain to get to games in these conditions and the club have made promises which have been broken.
But, aside from the above, their silence regarding progress and where we’ll be seated, in as soon as just over a week, is terrible.
Yes, agree that perhaps communication with supporter's groups etc. could be better.
The silver lining is that ultimately the facilities for disabled fans will be superb, even if it will miss the start of the season.
Hopefully proper interim provisions will be made!

That work is going on elsewhere within the stadium, and might not be suffering from delays, is totally irrelevant.
The only valid claim appears to be a lack of communication.

Someone off here should have a mozy on down there today and ask one of the hairy arsed builders what's happening, maybe one of them will know.

A dozen or so workers turned up a couple of weeks ago to replace the Canopy over the main entrance on Harry Potts Way. Plenty of refurbishment going on indoors also.
Little to be seen on the corner builds.

Heard last night that when the Longside and Bee Hole got demolished they buried all the Asbestos (presume roof sheets) in the ground. When they started putting the footings in disturbed it all.
Could be a lengthy and expensive job disposing of it correctly.

If there is any truth in that, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some action taken.

That would make more sense than us “discovering” the old pit that we all know is there

It's a common practice to landfill footings with what's been demolished. 1995 might of been before big deals were made about the safe removal of Asbestos though.
Is that company still going? They were from Lincoln weren't they.

Just watched the video...you would think if there was any imminent (next 5 years or so) plans to do anything with the CFS then they wouldn't be doing so much underneath.
Between the extra corporate space in the BL and disabled area in the JML looks like we will be losing a few seats.....assuming the season ticket holders affected have been relocated?

If it is buried asbestos it should be the least dangerous sort cement bound corrugated sheeting. Somehow though I doubt it will have been used as a backfill .

I was on the match today and all there was in either corner of the JMU was a big hole.
I took this picture of where the big screen should be. There is no way any of this will be in place for the start of the season.

Somewhere above the players entrance would be a good location for the second screen.
Although it may block the view of those who want to keep an eye on the cricket matches.

As can be seen, the excavation for the new facilities between the James Hargreaves/Jimmy McIlroy Stand unearthed a series of stone pillars, the origins of which were initially uncertain. There was a delay of just over a week before the relevent Government Dept. could arrange the appropriate " experts " to visit the site.
After taking core samples, and a small discreet section of one of the 13 pillars away for analysis, they narrowed it down to it either being the original foundations to the Bee-hole pit's Winding wheel which were left after pit closed around 1904, or the remains of Turf Moor's first ever " Dry powder store ", built by Bob Lord in the early 1950's. The sturdy foundations were necessary to house the vast weight of shillings and two-bob pieces that Mr Lord accrued from the large attendances, whilst paying the £20pw/£50pw Maximum wage of the time. A remarkedly well preserved " Safe-Lock " was also discovered, and an expert Locksmith confirmed that the combination was set to 34-26-36, believed to be Mrs Lord's " vital statistics " at the time of their nuptuals !!

We've had confirmation from the club that disabled fans will be housed on a temporary platform until completion of the new area.
Our supporters club chairman will be assessing the platform with the club this week with regards to it's suitability, with view to us potentially missing every game until the new works are finished, if it's not.

That's not fair. At the very least disabled fans should be given access to the corporate boxes (if access is available) if they cannot have the seats they were promised.

Why didn't the club know about the mining pillars when the whole area was developed in 1995?
Surely that area was excavated when the foundations were put in, or were they just covered up again in the hope it didn't matter?

We had hoped that they may of made this concession but unfortunately, that's not the case.
Until less than a week ago, the ticket office were still insisting that we'd be sitting in our original seats. (The ones attached to the demolished police box).

Not being a builder my knowledge is limited, but surely having looked at that picture it is obvious why work seems to have stalled... none of the builders can get into the site office to find out what needs to be done??

They dig things up then do a disappearing act for months. With Barnfield running the work I thought it would be finished by now.

I should think modern building regs are behind the delay. Everything had to be signed off nowadays. It's hardly the fault of the club, they're as much a prisoner to them as the disabled are. It does sound as though there is now light at the end of the tunnel though, so hopefully we will be able to see the progress ourselves over the next couple of months.

There were 4 seats attached to the police box, 2 are season tickets.
1 of those is myself and my grandfather, the other belongs to Joe Skinner, one of our members who you may recognise from his close friendship with Danny Ings and various club promotional photographs.

Personally I think it’s fantastic what the club is doing for disabled fans.As a kid I used to be taken around by my Grandad to countless “ sport for all” events and he was a tireless campaigner for disabled sport . But to hear some of the moaning and groaning on here you’d think Dame Tani Grey was hanging above the Jimmy Mac on a crane !

Which corporate fans paying 30 grand a year for a box do you think should be kicked out?
The corporate side of things are way over subscribed.
I hope they find a solution like providing bus shelter type facilites down the side of the Bob Lord but it won't be from ousting corporate fans I'm afraid.

I will happily accept that I am wrong if someone knows the facts, but I think the UCFB left Burnley a while ago.
A lass I know had to commute to the Etihad after being moved from the Burnley based campus.
EDIT: I checked online and they still have Burnley down as a location for the university, in that case I may well be wrong with the above statement (Although the girl was relocated).

Improved disabled provisions are being implemented and driven by the Premier League through the accessible stadia guide. It’s not a BFC initiative.

Cheers. So they're still not used as corporate spaces? Wonder if it's a lack of demand or what in that case.

Shockingly bad service from the builders who everyone says is Barnfield. Before they took on the contract they should have and indeed had a duty to do surveys. The lack of urgency is appalling .they have let everyone down Big Time

They’re not doing it because they wanted to. They’re being forced to due to the Premier League’s new accessible stadia standards.

False.
There’s one box that’s always set aside for club use. It’s the last one closest to the Jimmy McIlroy.
