Wimbledon 2018
So the grass court finale commences tomorrow, minus Andy Murray unsurprisingly. But Roger and Serena and chasing their 9th and 8th titles respectively.
British hopes are resting on Kyle Edmund who in the long-term will assume Murray's mantle, and Johanna Konta despite the latter having a dismal season.
It's hard too see past Fed again, but the new kid Alexander Zverev is one for the future and could upset the usual suspects.
As ever the women's draw is more difficult to predict, but Serena has been seeded 25th rather controversially, and will be a dangerous match for the higher seeds.
Intriguing contest in store for tomorrow,Britain's Cameron Norrie meets former British Davis Cup hopeful Aljaz Bedane, who was refused by the ITF to represent Great Britain in the team event as he had previously played for Slovenia.Hence Bedane's decision to switch back to his original adoptive country in 2018.

Will do everything in my power to avoid a single second of coverage of this pigswill, BBC at their most cringeworthy.
Achingly dull, thank god murray has the hips of a 90 year old, and we don't have to endure the usual tiresome prattle.

Re: Wimbledon 2018
I won't be watching much of it myself, but will keep up to date with scores when possible,i'm guessing Murray's absence and the little event taking place in Russia will overshadow the strawberries and cream this year anyway, unless a British player goes deep into the second week (unlikely) or England get turfed out on Tuesday.

Burnley get into Europe.
England doing ok in the World cup.
We stuff the Aussies 5-0 in the cricket.
And thank the Lord that the obnoxious Murray isn't at Wimbledon.
Sue Barker will be beside herself.
And it is sunny.
We're all going on a European tour - not to SW19

Will try and watch some of the live tennis and avoid any of the coverage featuring Clare Balding (if that's possible)

There's a grass court tournament on the ATP tour after Wimbledon.
Re: Wimbledon 2018
Just looking at the odds, why is Novak 2nd favourite to win it @ 11/2?

We're all big Murray fans up this neck of the woods. Needless to say that we're all very disappointed in his withdrawal. Rumps had stuck a pony on him as well

Re: Wimbledon 2018
John Isner (6 foot 10) beat Olivier Rochus (5 foot 5) in the final one year at Newport. On the picture of them shaking hands at the end, Rochus looks too small to be a ball boy, let alone a player.

Never heard of Harriet Dart before today, she lost in the deciding set but pushed Pliskova all the way, only 21 so could be one too watch for in future events.THEWELLERNUT70 wrote:A cracking match underway between Pliskova v Dart. 1 set all with Dart being a break down in the 3rd

Re: Wimbledon 2018
After the excitement of last night's match the tennis seems to have been forgotten .
Glad Sharapova went out early cheats should never prosper, solid wins for Kyle Edmund and Johanna Konta.
Shame for Jay Clarke and Gabrielle Taylor who both lost deciding sets, but can take encouragement at pushing two top players all the way.
Just noting that 21 seeds have fallen at the first hurdle and they say the football's been unpredictable.
Federer-Nadal final is looming large if they both stay fit, amazingly they have won the last 6 grand slams between them,3 apiece so much for them being over the hill.

Re: Wimbledon 2018
Can surely only benefit Novak and Rafa,of course they might not finish tonight so it could be survival of the fittest,Anderson must be out on his feet after his heroics against Roger.
Should be a cracking ladies final Williams-Kerber,plenty of British interest in the remaining finals,Jamie Murray/Azarenka in the mixed doubles,Jack Draper in the boys final, and Hewett and Reid in the Mens wheelchair doubles final.

Re: Wimbledon 2018
Jack Draper looks decent from the little footage I have seen only 16.
Re: Wimbledon 2018
I need a lie down now after Anderson & Isna, hang on though Nadal and Djokovic are just about to start.
Re: Wimbledon 2018
JP McEnroe wants to learn to shut up. OK, so he doesn't like long games and wants them to get off court because he's bored. So what. He's paid to commentate on the game, not to moan and groan.
Presumably he was well happy with the women's semis yesterday - 2 matches, 4 sets, less than two and a half hours, done and dusted. Wheras tonight's game, or the Anderson-Federer game, or the Nadal-Federer final of 2008, or even his own first Wimbledon title against Borg - they've gone on too long, cut them short.
What is it with a certain type of tennis aficianado? They want to change the rules so that the boring, quick games are unaltered but the long, tense matches that people remember for years should be abolished. They think if they make tennis over quicker, the people who don't liek tennis will start to watch it.

Re: Wimbledon 2018
If you want to see some good tennis the wheelchair version is good to watch. This was taken from court 17 this afternoon with the centre court in the background.

Anyone there today?
It must have been incredibly hot on Henman Hill.
I was working on court 3 and that was bad enough!

Are you admitting you were wrong about his chances, or are you pretending that you were suggesting he should have been favourite?

It's a completely different game and difference muscles. I'd imagine it's like a breast stroke specialist trying to compete in the 100m butterfly.tim_noone wrote:Was watching those guys yesterday...I'm sure Novak and co would struggle to play that game.
