Re: Steve Winwood.
I must admit I thought it was going to be a 'sad to hear' post. Never been to that venue but it doesn't matter where he plays, he's bloody brill. Does anyone here remember a 70s album called Welcome to the Canteen? A single record live album credited to Stevie Winwood and Friends, it was one of the best live albums ever with an absolutely wickedly infectious version of Gimme Some Lovin, impossible not to tap your foot to.

Excellent musician who most of the general public have probably not heard of (but that's often a good thing).

Re: Steve Winwood.
'Hole in my shoe' was a song written and sung by Dave Mason of Traffic. Steve Winwood didn't like the song at all. Sorry for being pedantic, but I'd sooner be pedantic than a pederast.

If you've not seen him before, you're in for a real treat. Saw him a few years ago at the Lowry and I can honestly say that it's the best gig that I have ever been to.the_magic_rat wrote:Yep, i'm there too tonight Funky.

Hope you enjoy it - I notice it's "plus special guests" tonight so anything can happen.

Re: Steve Winwood.
He was brilliant when he guested with The Funk Brothers at The Apollo early noughties. Billy Preston and Carla Benson too. Winwood took the more R'n'B stuff like Junior Walker, etc.

Re: Steve Winwood.
Went to this and although I enjoyed it I thought the show was pretty short, the vocals were muddy for the first half and the bloody drummer thought it was his gig, too much percussion and too dominant. Might be the Bridgewater acoustics and rock don't mix as well as other places I have been. It was advertised as "with special guest" Did that mean the support act of a folk duo from Gloucester?

Re: Steve Winwood.
Sadly I have to agree with you. The sound wasn't very good at all, muffled and very heavy on the bass side.Hendrickxz wrote:Went to this and although I enjoyed it I thought the show was pretty short, the vocals were muddy for the first half and the bloody drummer thought it was his gig, too much percussion and too dominant. Unless I'm mistaken, the sound guy was actually on the stage which may explain why it wasn't so good. I don't
think it's the venue because I've seen other bands/artists and it's been spot on.
The lineup was the same as last time with the exception of the percussion guy who I thought was the main
problem with the sound (it's never the drummers fault, you know !! ) as he was very heavy handed and a bit
too aggressive for that style of music. However, who am I to pick Steve Winwood's band for him ???
I enjoyed it, but with a tinge of disappointment.

Re: Steve Winwood.
Glad it wasn't just me. (I am often accused of talking shite ) I just found the whole percussion thing too loud man! Also, another couple of hits (Valerie? Back in the High Life) would have just rounded things off nicely. He's happen saving himself for Hyde Park.
