Think it will be quite close, but I'll still go for Brazil. (Just)
Though Mexico have been playing well.

Re: Brazil vs Mexico
we had a passing game yesterday, anything but decent though - tika-taka at its worst. Certainly hoping for more from Brazil vs Mexico. Unfortunately I've planned meetings at the same time though

Re: Brazil vs Mexico
I had a debate with a friend about this yesterday. He was complaining that Spain played tiki-taka and it was best to just lump it up field.NRC wrote:we had a passing game yesterday, anything but decent though - tika-taka at its worst. Spain won the World Cup in 2010 by playing a passing game. Germany won it in 2014 by playing a passing-counter attacking game. Portugal tried to play a passing game in 2016 - they won the Euros (allbeit they were extremely lucky). Basically, recent winners at major tournaments have tried to play tiki-taka football.
Most teams don't. For one reason - they can't.

No most teams can't but what the absolute best teams have is that magical skill to create chances. Spain created few of those and despite their dominance of the ball paid the price.FactualFrank wrote:I had a debate with a friend about this yesterday. So it's not about the passing, it's about the lack of chances.Stayingup wrote:No most teams can't but what the absolute best teams have is that magical skill to create chances. Spain created few of those and despite their dominance of the ball paid the price.
You can play long ball and still not create many chances.
Re: Brazil vs Mexico
Spain/Germany had the worlds elite at doing it. Spain yesterday had nobody brave enough to get on the ball and look forward. When it’s good it’s very good. When it’s bad it’s very bloody awful.FactualFrank wrote:I had a debate with a friend about this yesterday. He was complaining that Spain played tiki-taka and it was best to just lump it up field.

IMO I think tika taka changed a few years back when Bayern/Dortmund got to the CL final. Bayern ripped Barca a new one in the semis. The german way of fast free flowing football was the way forward. The national team adopted it as the Spanish team adopted the Barca way years earlier.

I think when it's bad, it's no worse than a team just hoofing it upfield and the opposing defence gaining back possession. That too can be just as boring.Dyched wrote:Spain/Germany had the worlds elite at doing it. Spain yesterday had nobody brave enough to get on the ball and look forward. When it’s good it’s very good. Basically, what I'm saying is if you have the ability to play a passing 'tika taka' style - you play it. It's how football should be played. Creating chances is what comes after, just as what comes after if you play the ball long and direct. But football is an art and the best players play it because they can.
Pep Guardiola is one of, if not the, best manager ever. And he plays it. He even has his keeper just as much for his passing ability than for his saving ability. But you need footballers who have it both downstairs and upstairs. They have the technical ability but they also think 3-4 moves ahead, like in a game of chess or a game of snooker.

Brazil looking a bit open at the back. Mexico definitely have a chance of grabbing a goal.

This is excellent stuff. Open, attacking play from both sides and no diving or play acting!

Sorry, Neymar rolling about a bit there. But he’s paid a lot of money, isn’t he.

How a red card was not shown for the clear stamp on the ankle is beyond me.
Re: Brazil vs Mexico
I’ve not seen lots of Neymar. I know he’s highly rated , each time I see him though, I’m underwhelmed. Seems more intent on moaning and diving.

File Neymar in the same category as Pepe and Ramos. Twohats and hope to see him crying like a baby as we did with the other 2.

It’s been a fairly good game as far as play acting and diving is concerned, but I have to agree that Neymar seems a right fannyDCWat wrote:I’ve not seen lots of Neymar. I know he’s highly rated , each time I see him though, I’m underwhelmed. Seems more intent on moaning and diving.

Re: Brazil vs Mexico
Neymar really is a big girls fanny smell isn't he... He can manage the pain of a head to toe tattoo, but someone standing on his ankle and he needs emergency surgery (spray of magic water) to recover (fully) before he can stop crying - weapons grade c#ntishness of the highest order that is ruining the game.

I think it would hurt anybody if they stamped on their ankle. Do you agree, it was a red card offence?Rick_Muller wrote:Neymar really is a big girls fanny smell isn't he... How do we know it didn't really hurt? Maybe he reacted the same when he had his tattoos.

Re: Brazil vs Mexico
I replied on the Neymar thread Frank, it was not a stamp, he stood on his ankle - not stamped - for the record I agree that it was a red card offence, but only because the rules say so, not because it actually hurt the little pussy.FactualFrank wrote:I think it would hurt anybody if they stamped on their ankle. Re: Brazil vs Mexico
Martin O’Neil summed up Neymar pretty well there. “Absolutely pathetic” and he wondered what Neymar would be like if he had to have a flu jab!
Re: Brazil vs Mexico
Clattenburg said should have been a red card for violent conduct. I agree. Neymar could have had someone’s eye out thrashing about on the floor like that

Do you (A) agree with my point (and only point) that it was a red card or
(B) do you not think it was a red card?
Quoting parts that you've said makes bolllocks all difference to this.

No sure why somebody has liked it - they're basically saying, never discuss anything regarding football unless it happened. What a boring world that would be.tim_noone wrote:There was no red card shown. Have you wagered a bet on there being a red card shown Frank? And you put 'there was no red card shown' - do you not realise that has F all to do with it? Yet somebody likes it!
