England or Burnley
England or Burnley
For me, England winning the World cup would come nowhere near Burnley winning the Premier league!
Just wouldn't be as good, nor live in the memory the same.

Re: England or Burnley
England win the World cup, but when they have lifted it, let everyone know I had my fingers crossed, so it doesn't count and Burnley can then still win the league.

Neither going to happen any time soon..so you can relax for a bit at least
Re: England or Burnley
Id say Burnley over England every time. Easily. But to homest England winning the world cup would be absolutely incredible. For us all who weren't around in 66 Im not sure we can contemplate how incredible it would be.

Personally I'd take getting to the Europa league group stage over an England World Cup win.

Me neither. But winning the world cup would be immense and one of the highlights of my life. It's not too long ago some people were saying stuff like they'd rather Burnley win a corner than England win the WC and they've no interest in watching England.
Re: England or Burnley
England winning would be huge.
Burnley winning is life and death.

Re: England or Burnley
England winning the WC isn't even as good as BFC finishing 17th!
Re: England or Burnley
England winning the World Cup and Burnley playing in Europe, in the same year. It’s dream time!
Generally, I’d always opt for Burnley over England. But unless you’re throwing a Premier League Title or Europa League winners title into the equation, I’d opt for England winning the World Cup.
The whole country celebrating together would be huge!

Burnley will always come before England.
But when you're football mad, we can be greedy and go with both.

Re: England or Burnley
I'd take England winning the World Cup with 3 (or more) current Burnley players leading the national team to victory..... at the end of the season in which Burnley had been crowned champions of the Premier League.... that's if the first time we win the Prem League is a World Cup year.
Yes, they've both happened before in my lifetime (though I don't have many football memories before 1962 FA cup final).

Re: England or Burnley
i'd say Burnley but the reality is we'll never compete for the title without major investment,England with the rub of the green and a couple of decent performances have a chance of lifting the World Cup.

I think it's more about the big prize. Not about what it would take to get there.tiger76 wrote:i'd say Burnley but the reality is we'll never compete for the title without major investment,England with the rub of the green and a couple of decent performances have a chance of lifting the World Cup.
Burnley winning the Prem would sort the club out for probs 40 years. England winning the World Cup? Roll on 12 months and we'll be complaining about something else.

Re: England or Burnley
For me England winning the World Cup would be on a par with Scotland finally winning a qualification group. Burnley winning the PL would be somewhat higher.

Re: England or Burnley
I always find this question difficult to answer because the two really aren't comparable. England plays in a cup tournament and for Burnley we invariably talk about winning the league. Two totally different competitions.
To me, England winning the world cup would be way more 'exciting' following that event unfold than Burnley winning the league. Maybe because for England it would be done in 7 matches over a month (rather than 38 over 9 months) and the fact that you then have to wait another 4 years (so long as Burnley stay in the prem, we get a chance every year - albeit a small one).
Put it this way - in my life Burnley probably have about 40 more shots at being Champions (as long as they don't get relegated) England will have 10 more chances at being World Champions, although I do agree that the chance of England winning the world cup, however small, is bigger than Burnley being champions. I think it is the relative infrequency of the event that makes it more exciting for me.
Maybe if Burnley won the Europa League I'd look at it differently (ask me at the end of next season )

The best thing to come out of England winning the World Cup would be the realisation amongst the media and pundits that you don't need a 'Golden Generation' of perpetual underachieving bottlers led by an underachieving celebrity manager.

Why do you have to chose ?
Re: England or Burnley
I know it is all hypothetical and a bit of fun but the feelings do exist.
The emotions that I display when Burnley win or lose just aren't there in the same intensity when I am watching England.

Burnley take priority for me.
However as a staunch England supporter a World Cup win would be absolutely fantastic for this country and finally getting the second star on the badge would be a dream.

Burnley successes always mean more to me than England.Too many poor managers picking media darling flops for me to get excited about the national team
It would be nice for England to win but my own priorities are looking forward to new recuits and anothe successful season

I’d take a Burnley pre season victory against Preston over an England World Cup win.
