Re: Trippier
Fantastic tonight.
Re: Trippier
He was amazing for us but Poch has taken him to a whole new level, he looks like he's lost half of his body weight.

I'm as big of a Trippier fan as the next man, but was he that good tonight?
Should he have stopped their goal?

Maybe could've stopped the goal if he was a few inches taller.

Re: Trippier
Fabulous was Trips. Top guy, got his jump wrong for their goal but that’s like blaming Pickford for a world class save that was going inches wide and he could have left it. The penalty save, after he had been diving under them all night, was top notch, and Trip’s pen was just as good.
Anyway, the best move tonight by Trips was 2 cracking tweets - one, a very touching one with him holding his young son pitch side afterwards, delighted for him, and two, showing a great angle for the player celebration with Vardy having the biggest hard on of all time. It tickled me, well, no pun intended.

I think he did his best considering the ball bounced up and not something that was practiced in training, just one of those things so no in short is my answer.

Was anybody that good? I don't think any England player was superb.Bin Ont Turf wrote:I'm as big of a Trippier fan as the next man, but was he that good tonight?

What I would say however is how professional he was. He tried to calm things down before it got out of hand. He slapped hands with some of the Colombia players in a friendly, professional way. He tried to calm any threat of trouble, and when you look at the referee who was absolutely shocking by the way, that could have been the difference between a talking to, to a red card.
I think he did his bit upstairs. He used his head.

Re: Trippier
That system really suits him.
He is better playing more forward with 3 at the back.
That said he still defends superbly.
Puts in the yards and fearless.
Great touch.
He is becoming W'Class.
Always had quality.
Also Love his massive passion for the cause - plus he is a really decent fella to boot.
All the best to him.
A standout player so far for England for sure. Really hope he bags a free kick goal.
I'll go of the scale daft if / when that happens.

He’s admitted himself he made a mistake for the goal. Still one of the best players on the pitch though.

If you think trips was at fault for the goal then you’ve got some sort of mental deficiency. What do you expect him to do? Grow a few inches taller?

Re: Trippier
I thought Tripps played well. His cultured right foot is one of the best I've seen in this WC. The French co-commentator, an ex-player, whose comments are almost always judicious praised Tripps' right foot several times.
He was one of the few England players not to react to the sledging; he showed excellent self-control.
And when you needed to show you have balls he volunteered to take a penalty and put it away very well. I wasn't surprised when I saw him walk towards the penalty spot because he's always been fearless.
Well done, Tripps!

Re: Trippier
wonder if he has learnt to drive a car yet lol.....a wonderful footballer and along with Pickford and Captain Kane the men of the match.
Re: Trippier
Kane was immense last night. Man of the Match by a long way. How many cheap free kicks did he win all night. He's so hard to get off the ball. Maguire was equally as important and he gets better every game.
I thought it was Trippier's weakest game but that only shows how good he was Vs Tunisia and Panama. His penalty last night was special, he's been watching Harry Kane in training I think!!

Re: Trippier
I didn't think he was at his best last night, he got caught in possession too often in potentially dangerous positions out wide. That said, his penalty was sublime, I knew by his body language that it was going in, just like I knew that Henderson's wouldn't. His post match interview showed such maturity to take ownership of his perceived mistake for the goal,

We all know what he can bring to the table and it's no surprise that he's done very well this tournament. He's probably a bit unlucky not to have had more assists.

How many noticed in the post penalty celebrations, he waited for Henderson and celebrated with him before joining in the melee.

Re: Trippier
I'm delighted for Tripps and slightly proud that when City pretty much discarded him we picked him up, gave him a chance, developed him and helped him become the world class player he is. The only down side to me is that he's now grabbing the attention of massive teams all over Europe and must be worth loads and we stupidly allowed ourselves to be stitched up when we sold him for basically loose change in today's market. I hope we've a good sell on clause!!

He could have had at least two assists last night, difficult chances but still chances. Kane and Dier headers from excellent crosses.

Few sloppy passes as well but apart from that a pretty solid game.
Taking penalties like Shearer isn’t a bad trait either.

If he puts every penalty where he put that one, even if the keeper knows where it's going, he's not saving it.piston broke wrote:He’s been superb but after admitting, post match, that he only ever practised putting pens where he did I hope he has a plan B. Created the most chances (5) of either team.
Made most tackles (8) of either team.
8 out of England's 20 tackles made by Trippier.

I suspect in the next four days of training he'll pick another spot and practice hitting that spot in case penalties come round again.
Re: Trippier
Yes, he should've been sold to the highest bidder after the promotion season, a really embarrassing season where the club failed the manager and practically strung Dyche up by putting a relegation on his CV.Tall Paul wrote:Was it stupid to get another year out of him in return for that clause in the contract?
Re: Trippier
Age would be against him as he's 28 and if you want to pay top dollar for a defender his defending isn't the best, despite being fantastic going forward.Dark Cloud wrote:I'm delighted for Tripps and slightly proud that when City pretty much discarded him we picked him up, gave him a chance, developed him and helped him become the world class player he is. The ultimate benchmark of a world class rightback is Philipp Lahm as he was both brilliant at defending and attacking, arguably the greatest ever in that respect.

If Taylor was bought for his experience and as a substitute for the last 30 minutes of a game that was OK.
I can understand Sean thinking I know Sordell I can get the best out of him, not realizing he was a busted flush and even Reid I can understand a sort of Bardsley type buy, but surely Juke was a known quantity - inability to score goals at any level.
Perhaps Sean thought he could get the best out of Sordell and Juke but even Pep can't polish a turd.
