I went to see Sons Of Kemet last week who were the best live band I’ve seen for a long time and I see a lot of gigs. Last album is great. Neneh Cherry’s new record ‘Broken Politics’ is really good.

Muse's new stuff is sounding pretty good at the moment. Feels very 80s, and a lot more fun that their ultra-serious previous album.

5 tracks available to stream at the moment, new album out a week today.

Lots of variety there, boys!
I just wanted to share that my 21-year-old daughter texted yesterday to tell me how AMAZING this artist is that she's stumbled across - Solomon Burke!
So I reminded her that she HAS heard him before at home (and seen him on Jools, as well).
Her tastes range from some drum n bass/rap stuff that's current through stuff she heard all last year in Mexico to Rock, Blues, Soul (esp. Northern Soul).
My work here is done!

I used to hate Muse but I'm slowly converting to becoming a fan. Been listening to them a lot recently. As you say, the new stuff is good.

I have been playing this song a lot lately..Peter Gabriel, a live version of 'In Your Eyes' from a concert in Italy in 1993.

PG has Paula Cole and the late Papa Wemba helping him out, and a bunch of great musicians and dancers - Manu Katche on the drums.

This is my favourite version of this song..a special ten minutes indeed...PLAY LOUD

** there is another excellent live version featuring Youssou N'Dour.

On a recent Trevor Nelson programme [Rhythm Nation, Radio 2] TN'S guest was Janet Jackson. She was asked to pick out some of her favourite songs, and music which had inspired her. One of the songs she chose was this..it's bright and summery and just over two minutes long and nearly 50 years old, and I have not been able to get it out of my head since.

Also..what Sly Stone could have been if he hadn't done the drugs.

'Hot fun in the Summertime'

I watched a Jools Holland show recently and a Top of the Pops from 1986.

None of the stuff on Holland's show was of any interest to me - there seemed nothing that hadn't been done before and the one person that seemed a bit different was also very tedious.

The TOTP for '86 - well I'm just glad I wasn't that interested into chart music at that time (indeed for music and football it was a poor period).

Perhaps I'm just a typical old fart who grew up with the music of the late 60s/early 70s. There was dross then too of course but there was a lot of music that broke new ground and that still resonates today - for me anyway.

Agree with all of that but whilst Sly wrote it this is my preferred version and a chance to see GE on his guitar. He’s one of my favourites.
