Music you've been listening to a lot recently
During a slow period on the board perhaps we can talk about music we're in to at the moment.
Ben Howard: I've not really been able to get into his music previously but I love this track played live.

Wayward Sons - Ghosts of yet to come.
Relatively new band fronted by the excellent Toby Jepson, ex Little Angels front man. Seen them live a couple of times, they play good old fashioned rock songs and are one of the loudest live bands I have seen (O2 Islington, small venue, huge decibels).

Watching England being half decent at football has got me all nostalgic. So I'm listening to a bit of 90s Britpop.

It's been great to see how they have emerged and evolved from the ashes of their previous incarnation Omerta. Hard working lads who have done it all off their own bat without major backing. They deserve their current success.
A great set of lads as well

Another Ben Howard fan, nice!
I saw him live in Manchester last Friday, he was incredible, one of the best artists of recent times but without commercial success.
Check out his new album Noonday Dream , it's great.

Re: Music you've been listening to a lot recently
First saw Little Angels support Marillion with H 1989. I went off Marillion but saw Angels loads of times. Lucky to catch them twice when they briefly reformed 5 or 6 years ago and seen Wayward Sons since. Toby is a great singer and song writer and also a top bloke. They cane out and did met and greet after I saw WS, not your corporate pay for it stuff, out and took photos, signed stuff and just had time to chat to fans. I like a lot of bands but there are a couple that mean something to me. Angels are one of them.Jeffbfc wrote:Dream Theatre at the moment. Then closely followed by the old favourites Rush.

Re: Music you've been listening to a lot recently
You can keep your new stuff - if it was made after the millennium it counts as 'officially rubbish' at my age. Most 90s stuff goes on the 'wtf' pile and the 80s - a fair few decent tunes. The 70s were musical heaven for anyone with half an ear for music
I usually listen to Pink Floyd/Dave Gilmour, Queen, The Who or a playlist of rock ballads and blues tunes I put together on Spotify. I also like listening to Classical music, especially Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Bruch's violin concerto no1 but the last couple of weeks I have been listening to Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene and Equinox a lot.

I've also been listening to Parquet Courts' new one. Their best since Light Up Gold, for me.
Also, I've been listening to Will Haven's WHVN, which was a key album for me as a teenager. It's still brilliant.
Otherwise I built some Ikea furniture last night to a Frank Ocean soundtrack, and after going out on Saturday we had a Destiny's Child disco once we got home. So many bangers.

Off to see first John Hiatt and then Steve Earle at the Paradiso in Amsterdam within the space of a few days next week, so catching up on their back catalogue on Spotify. Steve Earle will come on about an hour after the WC Final ends so might be listening to The Blues just after Harry hoists the Jules Rimet aloft!

Hi ClaretAndJew.
Strange (but good) coincidence i.e. my post and you just having seen Ben Howard live.
Sometimes a lack of commercial success can be good mainly in terms of an artist/band not "diluting" their style to suit a broader audience.
