Exactly this. It's about keeping a balance. We'd make significant profits on Pope, Heaton, Tarkowski and Gudmundsson if they were sold. Add the likes of Barnes, Vokes, Lowton, Lennon, Wood, Defour, Cork and Ward to that list as well if you like as they'd also command higher fees than we paid out - maybe not huge amounts more, but certainly a profit.

We have enough players to make profits off if we need to go down this avenue (if you we get relegated) and it shouldn't stop us bringing in players to push us forward. A £40m investment this summer could just solidify our position in this league and bring another £100-£120m into the bank. This is the summer to do exactly that. We finished 7th, we can offer Europa League football, we have a shiny new training ground... we're a very attractive club for players right now and we should capitalise on that.

It's not about selling for a profit, if we spend £40M on Jay Rod and Dawson with the wages on top, we may need that money back in 2 years time.

Around ten years ago actually. And Gray and Barton both passed the test.

Believe it or not, we have a pretty astute board, and a fine coach who knows how to manage people and is a very good judge of character.

We are going into Harrods and expecting to pay Aldi prices.
If only we could expand our horizons.

Will we get to Turkey? Can't help thinking Ireland is about as far as the club staff wants to go, will the club scouts that would like to watch any potential game in Turkey be able to sort their passports so they can travel out prior to the game?.
So ?
West Prom is Harrods ?
Aldi Prices are £25m ?
Steven Defour is from Ireland ?
None of our staff have passports ?

just checking like

Shame the no knobhead policy doesn’t extend to this messageboard.

These are big money moves for Burnley. £20m would smash our transfer record and put us in unchartered territory. I want us to push on and I think this is the season to do it, but there's no point paying up to the demands if no other clubs are interested in the likes of Dawson and Jay Rod. Dawson will move before the end of the window; it's a matter of patience to see how low they'll go.

As a side note, the fees being thrown around this season are at a level above anything seen before. The list below is the record signing of every club in the PL (SPOILER - THIS IS A QUIZ ON THE BBC WEBSITE AT THE MOMENT!). There are still plenty who haven't paid £20m out for a player yet and the list shows what we're up against. We're probably expected to fight amongst the likes of Leicester, Palace and West Ham for a mid-table finish this season but all these clubs have paid out much more for players than we have. We are still a small fish in a very big shark infested pond!

Manchester United Paul Pogba 89
Liverpool Virgil van Dijk 75
Chelsea Alvaro Morata 60
Manchester City Riyad Mahrez 60
Arsenal Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 56
Everton Gylfi Sigurdsson 45
Tottenham Davinson Sanchez 42
West Ham Felipe Anderson 36
Leicester Islam Slimani 29
Crystal Palace Christian Benteke 27
Fulham Jean Michael Seri 27
Bournemouth Nathan Ake 20
Southampton Guido Carillo 19
Watford Andre Gray 18.5
Huddersfield Terence Kongolo 17.5
Newcastle Michael Owen 17
Wolves Ruben Neves 16
Burnley Chris Wood 15
Brighton Jurgen Locadia 14
Cardiff Gary Medel 11
