Exactly this. It's about keeping a balance. We'd make significant profits on Pope, Heaton, Tarkowski and Gudmundsson if they were sold. We have enough players to make profits off if we need to go down this avenue (if you we get relegated) and it shouldn't stop us bringing in players to push us forward. A £40m investment this summer could just solidify our position in this league and bring another £100-£120m into the bank. This is the summer to do exactly that. We finished 7th, we can offer Europa League football, we have a shiny new training ground... we're a very attractive club for players right now and we should capitalise on that.
