There wasn't a World Cup in 1966. England's played games against teams of actors. The government were in on it, it was a propaganda stunt to keep the Eastern Bloc in their place.

1966 was divisible by two too. What are the odds?

Just to add a little to the coincidences...

In 1966, young IanMcL camped with his parents in Palamos, Costa Brava. First time in Spain. Watched matches on camp TV. Got home for the final.

2018 I am currently in St Antoni de Calonge. A short walk to Palamos. I return home Monday.

Up the Clarets....and England.

Teatime tonight, enjoying a beer in the evening sunshine in the back garden.

Plugged iPod into docking station, selected shuffle and out of approx 1,800 songs in my music library, 'World in Motion' (from 1990, the last time England reached the semi finals of the World Cup) was the 1st song up.

Coincidence or lucky omen? ;-)

Correct City won 2nd Division

To add to the coincidences. 66 was the last time a team came back from 2 down to win a World Cup knockout in 90 mins, until Belgium did it to Japan

I can remember that England were 2-0 Up against West Germany, in 1970, and took off Bobby Charlton. Uve Seeler then backhanded a fluke winner.

You have missed one.
Andy Murray didn't play Wimbledon in 1966 and he isn't playing it this year either..... the similarities just keep on coming.

Hi Ian, agree - all these "false facts" being quoted by others...

My coincidences:

I'm at Eric Clapton in Hyde Park tomorrow evening and I'm at Paul Simon at Hyde Park next Sunday. Both Clapton and Simon were top artists in 1966.

And, on the day of the WC final, Paul Simon is playing his last tour date on his "Homeward Bound" tour (https://www.paulsimon.com/news/paul-sim ... well-tour/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We all know that he wrote "Homeward Bound" on a railway station in England (Widnes, I believe). The song was released as a single on January 19, 1966 (wikipedia).

That's as close to "coming home" as anything can be....

Steve Winwood is appearing with Eric Clapton tomorrow - they were together in Blind Faith - formed in 1969 - so we don't need "blind faith" or be concerned that "can't find my way home" and "had to cry today."

Anyone of a betting frame of mind should take these coincidences for what they are.

1966 and all that! (or was that 1066?)

Yes Germany did come back from 2-0 down but not in 90 mins, it went to extra time

City didn't win the league until 1968 when from memory they beat Newcastle United at St.James" whilst Utd lost at home to Sunderland.

West Germany won after extra time, not in 90 mins as C&G said.

Pep manages Barcelona to win the league > Spain win the 2010 world cup

Pep manages Bayern Munich to win the league > Germany win the 2014 world cup

Pep manages Manchester City to win the league > 2018 world cup winners ??

I know it's not 1966 related but frankly I couldn't give a sh!t. It's coming home

If England win on Wednesday then there's going to be a lot of bad news buried on Sunday.
