After the disgraceful and shambolic performances at the last couple of tournaments dealing with a loss today will be a walk in the park

I've already prepared myself for a hugely anticlimactic performance ending in a damp squib. Hope I'm mistaken but I'm definitely not getting my hopes up!

Re: What if it isn't coming home?
It would be great to get a semi final place, but even the quarters are an improvement. So, if we go out, I'll put it down to work in progress and start looking forward to our third consecutive season in the EPL.

Me neither, can't see us keeping a clean sheet, we'll have to score at least two to avoid the dreaded shootout which is a lottery.chekhov wrote:I've already prepared myself for a hugely anticlimactic performance ending in a damp squib. Hope I'm mistaken but I'm definitely not getting my hopes up!

Well the nauseous media love in will grind to a somewhat juddering halt . Theyre feting GS like Jesus ( and we all know how that ended) Though if we can’t get past a very very mediocre Swedish side and the easiest half the draw since dinosaurs roamed the earth we deserve no credit whatsoever . I think we’ll make the final then who knows.

The very very mediocre side who have already knocked out Germany and Switzerland, hammered Mexico and knocked out Italy and Holland before the tournament even started. That Sweden?AlargeClaret wrote:Well the nauseous media love in will grind to a somewhat juddering halt . All the posters on here lose it whenever Burnley are called mediocre or some pundit says it’ll be a walk ober for City/Chelsea.

Re: What if it isn't coming home?
Sweden actually qualified via play off yes , Germany beat them 2-1 and themselves finished bottom.as for “ hammering Mexico” did you watch the game ? Sure 3-0 is a good win but pens own goals etc a quite bizzare game of football . While no team In the quarters are mugs and literally any team could win this thing , on a world stage I’d still class them as mediocre .
I’ve little doubt you’ll be w@nking furiously if the beat us though

As Burnley fans we’ve seen the miracle first hand, if any group of supporters have reason to believe in them it’s us.

Are we actually any good?
Defensively we’re not bad, but going forward I’m not so sure.
We’ve won one match really and that was a last minute winner when we did a lot of huffing and puffing. As we did against Colombia.

I'd say it's defensively where we're suspect. We do have the tournaments' leading scorer at present!Winstonswhite wrote:Are we actually any good?

No fair enough. You’re probably right as we do seem to overplay it at the back sometimes. We’re hardly a major attacking force though are we? The Panama game meant nothingfidelcastro wrote:I'd say it's defensively where we're suspect. We do have the tournaments' leading scorer at present!

Well of course. I meant scoring goals against them doesn’t mean we’re a decent attacking side smart arse.fidelcastro wrote:Except for three points and progress to the last 16.

Re: What if it isn't coming home?
A bit of luck perhaps for once? Luck of a last minute winner, luck of the draw, luck of a 50/50 penalty? Or am I being unfair...fidelcastro wrote:So we're not a decent attacking side and we overplay at the back
God only knows how we're in the quarter finals!
All I asked is are we actually any good? Try and look beyond the media hype!

I am ready for pictures of the Scots celebrating to tunes of Abba in an Ikea carpark somewhere north of the border. Tedious and predictable .

I think we've tried to play positively, much more so than recent turgid tournament performances.Winstonswhite wrote:No fair enough. You’re probably right as we do seem to overplay it at the back sometimes. We’re hardly a major attacking force though are we? The Panama game meant nothing
Scoring so few goals from open play is a worry and at this stage of the tournament I'm not confident of us scoring more than one in a game.
That means we have to be very tight at the back where we haven't been really tested yet bar for about 30 minutes v Colombia where we looked shaky.
Sweden aren't exactly a renowned attacking force. I doubt they'll be giving us penalties by wrestling at corners either. I can't see more than 1-0 either way with a strong possibility of 1-1 aet and penalties again.

Which 50/50 penalty was this?
Yes you're being unfair.
The only people hyping things up are people saying "It's coming home".

The Kane one was very lucky IMO. He was already on his way down then kicked the Colombian before dramatically falling in the floor. If it had been the other way round I’d have been livid- as they were.

Normal service will have been resumed.
I want us to win passionately, but I've seen nothing from us so far, to suggest we are anywhere near good enough.
I've seen enough from others to suggest we aren't anywhere near good enough.
We live in the hope that they can click as a team, and they are capable of a lot more, but I'm not expecting it.

What a fantastic tourney our boys have had. It might be coming home. Who cares if it isn't.
I've been thoroughly entertained and impressed with them to date.
I can be happy about what we've got. It doesnt have to come home.
But boy, it's looking good.

If it doesn't come home then I'll still give them a one man front room standing ovation - taking into account the lack of experience I think we've been a breath of fresh air in this tournament. I was a complete Southgate out when he got the job but he has won me over through his calmness and attitude.
I'd mostly like to thank Allardyce for being a greedy dodgy ******* though
