Remember one thing

Post by TheFamilyCat » Wed Jul 11, 2018 9:39 pm

Nobody expected anything from us in this WC. Even Southgate if he's being honest would admit that he was building to the 2020 Euros.

We have exceeded expectations and delivered our best tournament performance for over 20 years.

The hype just got a bit too giddy and I hope that doesn't turn into a backlash now we're out.

Well done to all concerned (especially Tripps), let's go to the next level in two years.

I think we'll need far a better midfield.

And in two years time that midfield should be better(as should the goalie, defenders and forwards).

Let’s hope the press remember that and get behind the team and keep the momentum going.

The thing is, they might be better for experience but how do you develop the natural ability that players like Modric or Rakitić have?
You've got to have that from an early age.

I think that's a very fair assessment

Italy can only improve. Germany and Spain might find their golden generation have gone.

Some teams will always have less ability than others. Accepting that and finding a way to compete and overcome that is the key.

Burnley fans, more than anyone, should recognise that.

Think one thing needed for this new "managed" football generally is an acceptance that when you get them on the slab you put them to the sword. Statistics don't get points goals do - take them while they are there for the taking.

The problem with the presss may we'll be expectation. No doubt we'll qualify comfortably for the Euros but after this WC the expectation will be to go beyond the SF.

I think a large problem is within youth football. The goal is to win and no more so at the younger age groups does physicality play a larger part than technical ability. Kids who are big and strong get picked above those who aren’t. Those who may have technical ability but aren’t picked then get disheartened and/or find some other pass time to put effort into instead.

What like the Croatia midfield that created the sq route of nothing for 65mins?

I disagree. Its sad but true that in this country you get medals for competing. whether you come first or 101st. Hopefully that will all end soon.

You should get **** all for failure.

It reminded me of the play off final against Sheff Utd.

We didn't look like losing (we didn't) yet every time Sheff Utd passed the half way line the sense of panic was enormous.

I am a nervous wreck watching Burnley in big games, and England to a lesser extent.

I agree, you can see the enormous difference in technique between the Spain youngsters and the English ones, it's almost like all good Spanish players can play with the ball, England more physical and hardwork than technique and it comes down to coaching from a young age and probably not helped by the amount of foreign players brought in at youth level and at senior level.

I always put it down to our youngsters playing in 3 inches of mud all winter. Although i do believe there is change afoot.

Spot on.KRBC the catalogue of England players with strength and the ball skills of a gnat is endless.Who can forget Walcott.Welbeck and the latest member Rashford who couldnt trap a bag of sand.Big lads at 14 told they had it.The coaches ignored their basic ball control as they were kick and rushing their way to the top
As regards mud thats a thing of the past unless you play Rochdale away
