Re: Alfie Mawson
I’d be delighted with Mawson, a signing of real quality, but can’t imagine us dropping Mee/Tarky or him being happy sitting on the bench
Re: Alfie Mawson
Signing Mawson probably means a change of formation to 3 at the back. Mee, Tarky and Mawson would be a really solid back 3. I think we'd have all the players we'd need for that formation other than left wing back. I don't think Wardy would have the legs for it, but it could be a chance for Taylor to step up or Brady to play deeper?

Dyche has never played a back 3 in 5 years at the club. Why would he now?

Re: Alfie Mawson
Because 352 gets 3 in cm and 2 strikers and if others do it we might get overun in cm. I think we should at least havr enough cbs to have it as an option.

Don't get me wrong i like the idea of 352 but Dyche obviously doesn't favour it and he is unlikely to do in the future.

Re: Alfie Mawson
We aren't going to play three at the back. Why can't people understand that this is a squad game. Players don't sign to be happy to sit on the bench - they sign to displace others from the team. Dyche has shown that players who come into the team and grasp the opportunity stay in the team. If we signed Dawson or Mawson then each would have to wait for their chance - just like Tarks had to. If they then prove they're better than their equivalent then they will retain their place in the team. It's nothing new, it's how football works.

Re: Alfie Mawson
I imagine that if and when Maguire moves on from Leicester, Mawson will head there.
Mawson will be too much for us, or certainly more than we’re willing to pay. Easily £25M+. How long has he got left on his contract with Swansea?

I'd expect it to be more since we got £30 million for Keane.TsarBomba wrote:I imagine that if and when Maguire moves on from Leicester, Mawson will head there.

Re: Alfie Mawson
Mawson here would probably leave Mee on the bench unless we play 3 at the back, I don't see how one of those 3 would be on the bench for the majority of the season.TsarBomba wrote:I imagine that if and when Maguire moves on from Leicester, Mawson will head there.

Hi Socrates,
"Strange link with West Ham.
They’ve already spent £20 million plus on a centre-back, they’re signing a Paraguayan centre-half who is captain of his club side in Brazil plus they have Winston Reid, Declan Rice, Ogbonna and Reece Oxford."
Totally agree with you. A friend of mine who supports West Ham (yes, I'm taking medication) has always rated Reid and his said Rice reminds him of Bobby Moore and, believe me, he knows about football and his hero is Bobby Moore so that is very high praise indeed.
I think the DB are just going crazy to restore the confidence of their fanbase.

Re: Alfie Mawson
If Mee is not going to sign they should sell him and bring this lad Mawson in. Where are West Ham getting their money from?
Re: Alfie Mawson
He hasn't played a back three. If he had he would probably have played Trippier as a wing back.gandhisflipflop wrote:Dyche has never played a back 3 in 5 years at the club. Why would he now?

Alfie Mawson
As of this morning the Clarets are 1/4 on to sign Mawson this summer. Haven't really seen much news on it since interest was reported by a few newspapers.

A previous thread claimed that we were 2/7 to sign Dawson.
That deal is also yet to materialise.

Re: Alfie Mawson
Mawson, Dawson, how about James Lawson from Concord Rangers, Steven Yawson from Morecambe or even James Rawson from Forest Green Rovers. It’d be like a more English version of a Scandinavian side.

Re: Alfie Mawson
I think the odds relate to the negotiations.
We offer 2 WBA say 7 times that much for us to answer the phone.
We say 1 for Mawson, Swans say 4 heavens sake, get real!

Re: Alfie Mawson
Anyone who thinks Mawson would put Mee on the bench, clearly hasn't seen him play. There has to be a low limit on this because he isn't worth 20mill even in this market. He might be if SD can improve him, but that's an if.

Re: Alfie Mawson
It's looking increasingly like Mee is going to "do an Ings" and vanish for nowt at the season's end.....something that will cost the club a king's ransom in terms of the lost fee (£15m) and the cost of a replacement (£??)
The only weapon whatsoever that SD possesses is the power to let him spend this season on the bench...something that would be costly to both parties...there's clearly not been any great interest in Ben from the prestige clubs...non-clarets can see the limitations in him...full blooded physical commitment will only get him so far.
