Re: Sam clucas
Wonder how many of Dyche’s signings have been labelled ‘underwhelming’ by some posters on here and then gone on to be really good players for us?

Not many actually, but we are seemingly going backwards this window
Re: Sam clucas
So you would be happy to pay circa £12m for a 5th CM when we have only 3 CB's and no experienced No 10claretspice wrote:Rubbish. Firstly, Arfield was offered a new deal and rejected it. He wasnt surplus to requirements. Secondly, even if two players were deemed to be beyond their useful life with us, the idea that means we don't need to replace/upgrade them, so should go through next season with just 4 central midfielders, is bizarre.
Interesting point above about European scouting. Whilst we'd all like to use that avenue more, there's a clear logical argument for our continuing preference for domestic signings.
I would like to upgrade our CM or wide players but Clucas is not the answer to those scenario's as he is no better than what we have got
Add that £12m to the values we place on Dawson or Jay Rod and it would be money better spent

Why would we be interested in Jay if he had not played for us before

Re: Sam clucas
So one of Dyches main targets is down to the fact he used to play for us?

Well one person would know that but I’m sure you are right over the manager who’s led us into Europe.Wokingclaret wrote:We would be targeting him otherwise would we.

I don't think its one other, and nothing coming from the club suggests it is either.jojomk1 wrote:So you would be happy to pay circa £12m for a 5th CM when we have only 3 CB's and no experienced No 10

I think we need 3 or 4 players this summer. I'll judge whether I reckon we've spent our money on the right priorities after the window closes and after we've seen how the players we do bring in get on. I'll I know is that we need another central midfield option, and we've been linked with a good one who I can easily imagine fitting into the squad.
On the one hand, you want us to sign better than we have (really quite hard when what you've got starts with Defour - who might have been playing in a world cup semi final or even final but for injury - and Cork), but on the other hand you're baulking at us paying £12 million for someone because you think we should invest the money elsewhere.
Re: Sam clucas
Clucas would be underwhelming, no doubt about that, but I understand why Dyche would want him. He's a solid player who can play in a couple of positions. If Dyche is keeping Hendrick to be a number 10 then we do need another CM who can sit in. Defour and Cork would be first choice with Clucas and Westwood behind them. They're all good options to be honest. The only reason it's underwhelming is it's potentially £12m for a player who will ultimately warm the bench for a lot of the season.

That's the market though. Its nothing to do with Burnley.jlup1980 wrote:Clucas would be underwhelming, no doubt about that, but I understand why Dyche would want him. We signed Hendrick 2 years ago for a not dissimilar fee when he hadn't played a minute of Premier League football. This lad has played over 50 games at this level and was good enough to be getting linked with an England call up 15 months ago.
Re: Sam clucas
Clearly not the only reason but it obviously helps because the managers knows he will be settled personally and not do a Jelle Vossen. Having said that I'm not sure Jay Rod is the player he was and at the sort of money touted. Clucas would suit Dyche burnside not a big upgrade on quality.Wokingclaret wrote:Why would we be interested in Jay if he had not played for us before
