Re: World Cup final
The Nike final and what a finish... Errea, Umbro, Addidas, Puma your shirts and boots and socks took one hell of a beating...
But seriously, I wonder if they all have to use the corporate footwear? Quite a lot of different boots in use today.

Not a penalty for me, although if it was against Burnley it might be different.

It's far too inconsistently applied for it to be deemed legitimate in my eyes.
More like a way for FIFA to liven games up by misusing it

Re: World Cup final
I really don’t know how referees interpret the hand ball rule. First and foremost it’s got to be deliberate. I suppose you could include being a bit reckless in that, but the Croatian player seemed to be trying to actually move his arm away.

I don’t think Puma would be too happy to pay Antoine Griezmann to wear their boots for him to wear Nikes in the World Cup final

Re: World Cup final
Come on, you can't criticise VAR --it is what the majority of fans want, it is such an aid to the game and is the future of football.
I wonder what Laws of The Game we adhere to these days because if a player his hand in the air, the experts say it is an unnatural position so it must be penalised, however, Perisic had jumped and his arm was naturally going down into a 'natural' position and it is deemed intentional handball.
How many penalties have there been in this World Cup?

Off they go for some garlic bread and onion tea. Come on Croatia.
Re: World Cup final
Absolute disaster for VAR if the wrong decision means France win the world cup.

Re: World Cup final
Clear and obvious mistake - why would that take 5 refs in the VAR room and a ref watching 150 times ?

Re: World Cup final
What a waste of time this VAR is. A free kick in a goal scoring position can’t be reviewed but a penalty (in a goal scoring position) can. Why?
The handball is an utter farce. I knew it would have been given because I’ve seen 2 identical decisions given in this World Cup. If referees have been told to punish any contact with ball and hand in the box with a penalty then they need to tell everybody and re-write the law.

Re: World Cup final
The law needs changing so any handball is handball. The onus is then on the player to keep his arms tucked away. But FIFA love controversy so it won’t happen.

Re: World Cup final
he definately handballed it, and i cannot see shearers point at all, also the free kick they were moaning about, said there wasnt even contact...are they nuts? france deservedly in front

Re: World Cup final
One thing I can say with 100% certainty. We wouldn't have been given that penalty!
Re: World Cup final
We clearly need a VAR VAR system where any obvious cock up by the VAR referees can be replayed by a bank of 15 referees (all in uniform) using 28 different cameras.
Re: World Cup final
Absolutely not. We just need correct decsions. There's one thing a ref making mistake in real time and another thing when VAR results in a shambolic decision in a world cup final.piston broke wrote:The law needs changing so any handball is handball. There's a big difference between the ball hitting the hand and handball. Shearer, Klinsmann, Ferdinand and Lineker are right.Wile E Coyote wrote:he definately handballed it, and i cannot see shearers point at all, also the free kick they were moaning about, said there wasnt even contact...are they nuts? france deservedly in front
