Europe not part of the plan.

Postby Japebe43 » Tue Jul 17, 2018 7:48 pm

That's my feeling about you. Its almost as if your club is a bit embarrassed to have qualified.

I think the game plan remains the same as before. If I'm honest, can't blame them really.

The manager has said on numerous occasion that the priority is staying in the PL - surprised you've not seen the interviews being a closet Claret

The point being, IMO they are absolutely right to keep things as if you'd never qualified.

Ive heard Dyche as booked his hotel room for the CL final 2020. I reckon he’ll keep us in Europe just in case we fall out of the top 4.

Premier league is so precarious.. You can be up there one season, down there the next. Its a crazy league outside the top 6.

I'll bet three pounds. One for us to win the PL. One for us to be relegated and one for us to win the Europa league. Not sure if one could place a bet for us to finish 15th but the odds on such a thing should be very long indeed based on statistical possibility.

It wouldn't be allowed by the bookies, such a bet.

Can't think that there are or even have been many clubs involved in European tournaments with anything resembling at best a medium term plan. Our record under Dyche in domestic cups since he took over stands at a poor 35% win in just 20 games so I've never accepted that he regards the upcoming tie as more than an unavoidable interruption to the real issue which begins a few weeks later in August. I have more concern about us picking up injuries we could do without(certainly at the moment) due to any intensity the Scottish team might exert in what they will see as a major coup before they take on Kilmarnock, Dundee and St. Mirren in their quest to remain top of the league where they currently now sit.

Exactly. I can see the truth in your point; what I don't see is that you conclude that when you are in the Premier League you must do your level best not to win anything or do anything memorable. Presumably the idea is that when you inevitably do get relegated, you don't have any fond memories so you won't regret not being there?

I reckon football - at least for the fans - is about glory, not money. The pitch invasion after promotion was to celebrate winning something. We didn't have a pitch invasion on the (equally financially valuable) occasion when we clinched a top-17 finish in the Premier.

I appreciate that, but its important to establish yourselves in the premier league. Your not there yet. Its easy to get carried away by last season and I think key players at your club are aware of that.

You're arguing that only the top 6 are safe, everyone else is permanently precarious, and therefore we ought to wait until we're established before trying to win things? If you're trolling, please troll consistently.

I prefer "seize the moment". Or "tomorrow never comes." I don't want to look back on the only time Burnley ever qualified for Europe and they didn't even try. I'd rather try and fail (like Blackburn) than not try at all.

So if we play under strength teams, we might have a season like Everton last year? You aren't selling it. Bear in mind that we have half their money if we're lucky, so if we go into full-Everton meltdown like they did, we're relegated.
