Re: No flags allowed for Aberdeen away
Good. That's the under cover / not under cover refreshments debate sorted out. Now there's only trivial stuff like, "Where do we pick up our tickets?" left to sort out.

Why wouldn't you be allowed a flag?

I wonder why Liverpool and their lot are permitted to display their flags at Arfield?

I actually got to the design stage of it and then thought "don't really want to be political at a football match"!

No flags allowed, no alcohol, must have photo ID or will be refused entry. Are we playing in Scotland or Nazi Germany??

Re: No flags allowed for Aberdeen away
Is the “no-alcohol” to do with sponsorship?
When I took the kids team to Etihad to see City v Basel I’m sure I heard somebody say that because the Champions League is “sponsored” by Heineken and they use something else that they couldn’t serve any at all

Re: No flags allowed for Aberdeen away
I imagine it is referring more to flags on poles for safety reasons
Re: No flags allowed for Aberdeen away
All football matches in Scotland are no alcohol.
Re: No flags allowed for Aberdeen away
Scotland has some fairly strict and draconian laws regarding alcohol.
I remember at the Commonwealth games in Glasgow that if you tried to buy any booze after 10 pm you couldn't, even from an off licence/newsagents etc.
In Glasgow at least, it's an offence to be seen drinking in public - outside the confines of a pub or restaurant. It might be the same in Aberdeen.

Re: No flags allowed for Aberdeen away
We are playing in the Europa now. Foreign countries have different cultures, different laws and a different way of doing things than we do. We can't expect everything to be the same when we are playing abroad.
I've heard they cover their Twix in batter and deep fry them.

Re: No flags allowed for Aberdeen away
I think it's because Scotland has had such a big problem with alcohol, both at football matches and in other areas that it's seen as the sensible thing to do by banning booze.wilks_bfc wrote:Is the “no-alcohol” to do with sponsorship?

It is a standard guideline set out bu UEFA in their competitions.
Copenhagen will have been told exactly the same on their trip to Leicester

I’m not having some big wig in Brussels dictate whether or not I can take a flag into the ground.

A good decision on many levels.Lancasterclaret wrote:I actually got to the design stage of it and then thought "don't really want to be political at a football match"!
Not least because Burnley have qualified for European football - not "EU football".
Want to share your design?

Re: No flags allowed for Aberdeen away
Not really but it was a simple Euro flag with Burnley FC in the middle.
would have been to celebrate us getting into Europe for the first time in my lifetime, but I'd be lying if I didn't think of my political views as well.

If I was any good on photo shop you would appear in a Russian style photo of you and your flag turned upside down, with Ringo holding you.Lancasterclaret wrote:Not really but it was a simple Euro flag with Burnley FC in the middle.

Good image though!
Re: No flags allowed for Aberdeen away
I noticed the ban on flags. Bloody pathetic. I'm all for flags with "dodgy" wording and insignia being banned but otherwise it's plain wrong.

It'll be because the sight of St Georges and/or Union flags send jocks into a wild, un(ir?)recoverable rage not seen since William Wallace was aboot.
