Not a good draw but it would be an experience for our lads and fans. Just about in Europe too.

ThomasCook Sport are just one company who do sports packages who are struggling for planes due to it being holiday season. The busiest month of the year. That's why I mentioned it.
Yeah I know why you mentioned it, but there are hundreds of aircraft sitting on the deck in Europe available for charter. If the club want an aircraft it can be organised within a day - the selling of the package shouldn't be too difficult if they make it the most viable option for supporters. Got to get passed Aberdeen first which imho will be very difficult

No, I want us to stay in the PL so we don't have to play PNE or Blackpool again. A trip to Turkey on deadline day 3 days before the start of the season doesn't appeal to me and never will. Having watched us all around the lower leagues since the early 80's I genuinely couldn't care less about Europe at this point, the single focus should be long term stability in the PL, have a decent FA Cup run etc. Yes, the Europa league is a bonus but I wont shed a tear if Aberdeen knock us out, I'd rather we signed a few players that will help us achieve my first point.

You are only hanging on for a trip to the San Siro ;) :)

Can you imagine the club sold packages for this and Aberdeen beat us.

No way would or should the club be arranging travel for this.

Tbh whoever we get its easy enough to make our own plans.

I seem to remember the issue wasn't planes, it was the lack of landing slots.

Each to their own.

I have watched us from the bottom of division 4. To see us regularly in the championship at that point was a dream. To get into Europe is beyond any dream.

I am probably in a minority. But I dont buy into this lets aim for 17th ****. Football is about winning and experiences.

Albeit it is the southern and eastern parts of Turkey that are seriously dangerous at the moment, Istanbul hasnt exactly been a peaceful place over the last couple of years. The .gov foreign travel advice site is a read for all who intend to travel.

It highlights the difficulties the lads will face in Europe, the draw could have been so much kinder, but that's what we wanted. Probably better knowing we will have a tough game, than slipping on the banana skin of an unknown quantity.

Rangers will play Georgia's Chikhura Sachkhere or Slovenians Maribor if they win against Osijek of Croatia.

Hibernian will face Norway's Molde or Albanians Laci if they beat Asteras Tripolis of Greece in the second round.

Maribor isn't easy but they could have got worse, don't forget their unseeded,if Hibs progress i imagine they will play Molde no pushovers but not exactly an unwinnable tie,Hibs came 4th in the SPL and only qualified because Celtic won both domestic cups.

Istanbul is bloody massive.

Found loads of good hotels but really not sure which area to book in. After a few pubs and near any potential fanzone.

Plenty of bars around Taksim Square and central for any sightseeing you might want to do.

The ground is about 20Km outside of Istanbul itself, so they'll be some travel involved wherever you book (if you're in the Centre)

Have seen flights for about 330 quid return from Stanstead, which I don't think is too bad. Gutted I can't make this one but no chance of me being able to get time off work that week. Just hope we can progress in the competition, will be a real disappointment if we go out after 1 or 2 games.

MIght not be as intimidating as the other big three... I was doing some research on them, as the "government backed" part worries me. I found this article with the interesting line

The speed of this rise, however, had unwanted consequences. Situated in the hotbed of Turkish football that is Istanbul, İBB have struggled to attract fans, with promotion doing little to change that. Throughout their time in the Süper Lig they have failed to achieve attendances above 2,000. With away fans and club officials removed, this sometimes equated to as few as 20 spectators.

from the map, pics and the look of the stadium it looks like a newly built rich man's plastic club, ground looks to be well out of the city in the suburbs in a very green and modernized area of the city.

Averaged about 3300 last season at home but that is hugely skewed by derby games ,they get less than 2k on most games , dunno about welcome to hell I’d imagine Homebase would be more frightening

Booked my accommodation in Istanbul - fully cancellable, booking.com ;)

A bit nervous about how to get back to the centre from the ground at (probably) close to midnight. Will weigh that one up closely. It’s about 20km and the first stretch is through an industrial zone.

Aberdeen first of course, who have a chance, but I am surprised that everyone is focusing on the Istanbul leg and not the fact that drawing one of the favourites (compared to us) means we will have one of “those” European nights at the Turf. Should be pumping. Better than playing a bunch of Kazakhstan goat herders. The only downside is that they won’t bring many as they haven’t built up a fanbase yet.

Usually you get bussed back to the centre in European destinations.

IF we get through, I imagine there will be a number of us in the same boat. We could always set up a group to organise transport / meeting places / drinking places!

Still, i think Aberdeen will be tough though.

I get the title CC and you are correct, I drove down to S Lincs yesterday and it's horribly hot and sticky so I'm knackered

It's just more than a few fans seem to be getting ahead of themselves, a bit like before Lincoln City last

One game at a time and all that otherwise we will start sounding like all those Wolves fans on phone in radio

Wise words from JohnMac there. A few lads getting FAR too ahead of themselves yesterday
Very poor show. When I'm meeting you lads at the game, part of me will be wondering if I'm shaking hands with one of the offending parties. As stated before, the checking of flight comparison websites was one of the most EMBARRASSING things I've witnessed since I began using the Internet in 2001. All the same, not long now, and a few of you have been getting over excited and a few cockroaches crawling out of the woodwork. Every support has them. You don't hear from them any other time apart from a couple of days before a game. Most of them looking for a stream. Not real fans in my opinion. A drain on their club.
Message to the REALIST fans: See you when you get there lads. God bless.

Nobody is getting ahead of themselves. After Aberdeen come to the Turf one of us will have less than 7 days before a match in Istanbul. The clubs need to make provisional arrangements beforehand, and so do we.

If anybody books a non-refundable flight though.....

You have to be on the ball with European trips or you pay double the price.
Booking hotels with a cancellation policy is the way to do it.

How are you lads going to get time off work at such short notice in any case? At BT we have to book our annual leave TWO MONTHS in advance!
