Weve made offers for a couple of players but they are way short of the selling clubs valuation. Just a hunch...

Good way to hedge his bets as we're unlikely to sign 5. So he's basically saying we may sign 0-4 players, lol.Reecey1987 wrote:He said last night we want 4 players but may get less

Its clear that "we may get less " may or may not be correct so it must be the "4 players " suggestion that is wrong

Re: Nixon news tomorrow
Suspect its a story about BFC and our rise in the last 3 years
In terms of transfers the club has already said quality over quantity. Sadly to bring in players who are good enough and experienced enough to get in the team a weekly £35k wage ceiling will be our biggest challenge. WHU and Fulham will no doubt pay more salary for Mawson who is a Londoner anyway. Sooner or later the club has a big decision to make at where we position our ceiling
It rather restricts us to players in their twilight years (Walters/Bardsley) players from the Championship (Wood and Taylor), players at the end of their contracts(Heaton, Ward). Shows how successful we have been, but when you see the activity of WHU, Brighton, Everton, Wolves, Fulham, and I am sure this week will be hugely active for others not listed. When you superimpose these to our stats for the second half of last season it starts to worry me. Aberdeen was a stark reminder-no midfielder on the bench, other than Vokes no game changer in reserve. Before anyone says yes we have injuries there is nothing to stop Tarks & Mee both picking up serious injuries . Yes unlikely but who would have envisaged serious shoulder injuries for both goal keepers in the space of 10 months. No club is exempt from suspensions or injuries
Don't take this as being negative, I feel confident we can pull a few rabbits out the hat prior to the season opener, we usually do, but with the amount of cash being thrown around the challenge for BFC is ever increasing

Re: Nixon news tomorrow
Given we went through last season a centre back light, have a clear interest in another striker, and have lost 3 midfielders/ wide players since last season so have lost a lot of depth in those departments, Id be pretty disappointed if we didnt want at least 3 and ideally 4 players. And thats before we consider the goalkeeper issue.ClaretTony wrote:He might say that, but that's not the case.
The squad is clearly light on depth, that was evident at Aberdeen.

Re: Nixon news tomorrow
Morning Tony-about a month ago I saw an extract published from an American report on PL player salaries. It showed Brady, Defour, Cork and a few more Burnley players on £35k a week(£1.8m a year) and went down to the lower payers. Players who had been there some time were lower down the pay scale ie Mee, Vokes. It looked authentic and appeared to be "in-line" with what you hear about BFC salaries. Could all be wrong of course

I think we are very pro at paying bonuses (ie for staying up, or for finishing in a high position). This of course distorts the true salary

After Barnfield Training Complex the next investment should have been in an overseas scouting network. This is where there is value. There is little value in seasoned PL players and the jump from the squad we already have to higher quality and PL experienced is massive in terms of cost.

Re: Nixon news tomorrow
Hi Warks, I'm pretty sure "£35k per week" comes from the 2015/16 season - possibly including promotion bonuses (or possibly with bonuses on top).warksclaret wrote:Morning Tony-about a month ago I saw an extract published from an American report on PL player salaries. The last set of accounts, for the season 2016/17 - strictly 30-June-2017 - show wage costs of £61 million. We can assume £35k was not to top weekly wage for some through that season. We won't see the 2017-18 season's accounts until March next year. Given how the tv money has jumped. Given the new contracts signed in that period, including Sean Dyche's £3.5 million (assuming that is correct), it's not unreasonable to guess that wages for 2017/18 will be reported not far away from £80 million.
I think it's just journalists rushing to file their copy and looking up a number that keeps repeating "max £35k per week" now.

If it is the same 4 and 2 are with W Brom who are poor to deal with from experience and just one other club then that is v poor forward planning.

Not having a ceiling doesn't mean we actually pay anyone more than 35k. Pedantic I know, but the ceiling is irrelevant, what we pay is.randomclaret2 wrote:A quick look at our most recent wage bill shows we do not have a £35k/week ceiling

That’s 5 I’d want personally for a bit of squad depth and more quality. Before anyone says anything I know this is highly unlikely

It can't be big or breaking news as he wouldn't wait two days to get the story out. The chances are it would break somewhere else first.
Re: Nixon news tomorrow
The 4 we want are Clucas, Dawson, Rodriguez and Mawson, we are no closer since the window opened. Laughable really, it appears to me the cash just isn't available to sign players.

Its wages as I said earlier

Why would it be wages? We have spent the entire window faffing around again, chasing the same 4 players, I'm positive even we're not stupid enough to do that if we can't afford their weekly wage.warksclaret wrote:Its wages as I said earlier
Re: Nixon news tomorrow
It’s not laughable is it really?? What would be laughable is signing those 4 three weeks ago and paying way, way more than we’ll probably end up doing. If SD thinks we can wait abit longer for signings thats fine by me.KRBFC wrote:The 4 we want are Clucas, Dawson, Rodriguez and Mawson, we are no closer since the window opened. It’s the same whinges every bloody transfer window. We’re cautious. We have to be. We might have more money than we ever have but it doesnt mean we should go about throwing money about.

Yeah but those will be the 4 we're currently pursuing, we obviously won't get both central defenders. Yeah, we haven't been linked with anyone yet who will actually drastically improve what we already have, as the saying goes ''if you are standing still you're moving backwards''.claretandy wrote:It would be either Dawson or Mawson, not both, we don't need 2. Mawson no strongly linked with Fulham

I’ve been told on numerous occasions that Dyche isn’t part of the recruitment team
