Crouch has a deal at Stoke where he can live in Cobham in Surrey and gets the train up to Stoke for traInning each day. They have also been flexible with his travelling to matches. Quite a big family man, and this is why he insists

Thought he was very effective against us in the two games last season. Wouldn’t be against him signing.

As for the club taking a step backwards, well that's just silly.
The feel good factor seems to have gone? To many fans on this forum are always quick to rubbish the club no matter what it does.
I would wait until the transfer window shuts and then discuss our business or lack of it.
Like I said, I hope I'm wrong

I presume every team should be beating other teams 10-0 at this stage of the season if they are to do well in the Prem.

Everton did well, didn't they?
Nothing to do with results, we could have played fantastic at Aberdeen and still only got a draw. It's performance, and I just feel we are flat. Maybe the missing injured, or having to field too many make up teams, but we certainly don't look on the front foot, and it worries me.

He lives in Oxshot moved from Cobham after the race riots kicked off there.Trouble seems to follow him around think we need to leave the deal on ice until the result of the second referendum.

I was frankly taken aback when I heard this and my first reaction was f***********
However on reflection for a one season contract half a mill for 5/7 PL goals is a snip.
Crouch has 149 PL appearances in the last 5 seasons, many off the bench, and has scored 28 goals. 8-8-0-7-5 starting with 2013/14. He made only 11 appearances in 2016/16 when he failed to score. His average over 5 years is 5.6 goals but if you leave out 2016/17 when he was injured its 7.1 per season. Our top scorers Wood and Barnes scored 10 and 9 PL goals respectively last season. If they were to repeat this and Crouch chipped in with 6/7 I can see the sense in it.

If it includes Wells or Walters going in the opposite direction I don't think it would be the worst signing in the world, as long as it isn't the sum of our summer dealings.

If he comes as a direct replacement for Walters this could be a decent short-term signing,he clearly keeps himself in shape even at 38.

Fletcher got away with so much flack because he 'had a good first touch'. He was so overrated and missed so many golden chances to score goals. As for holding the ball up better than any of our current strikers, if you think he would do a better job than Barnes and Vokes do then you must be fishing.

Our best three strikers could all be described as target men. Crouch would be a good signing but at 37 he would be the 4th best striker of that type at the club. We need a striker with pace and a clever number 10, not another number 9.

Jut resign Vokes ffs.

jedi_master wrote:Nothing against Crouch, and he is useful regardless of age, but he is just simply not what the squad needs.

We quite clearly lack any depth in the attacking midfield role with only Hendrick seemingly an option as ‘number 10’ who has frankly been poor at best for more than six months, and was poor again against Aberdeen.

Rodriguez could fill that, in my opinion, as he is capable of playing that withdrawn forward role. To hear we are struggling to sign him and are now being linked with Peter Crouch for half a million, and seemingly absolutely nowhere near any other signing is pretty demoralising at this point of the window.

People can defend the club all they want on this, and we have done superbly well for them to keep our trust - of course. However, every year that you stand still you go backwards in this league. Yes, we finished seventh, but do we really expect to be that far away from the relegation shake up again this year? We have got quite a few injuries/players returning from injury (no clue how fit they are or whether they will break down again/recapture their form), Lost some good squad players and are looking increasingly light in almost every position as it currently stands. Not to mention we are going into this season with key squad members such as Ben Mee, Sam Vokes, Steven Defour and Jeff Hendrick out of contract at the end of it.

I’m concerned and I think more should be - do we really think that with a couple of weeks left we are going to pull the required four or five signings that squad needs out of the bag? I’d say it’s a nigh on no chance.
Great post and agree to all of it - for a club that finished 7th we are having a shambolic window and heads should roll - we never even spent last seasons budget

because we are useless at crosses from either side, usually belted in too high and too hard, he might get his head on the odd bad one and score.

Have to agree with Jedi. BFC needs to wake up this week-or certainly the recruitment team do. There are a few players out there still to be had, however the last few days have shown that there is a real intensity coming with clubs moving quick to secure their targets. I suspect this week will now be frenzied leading up to deadline day. Love the way Brighton and WHU did their business early and still active

I mentioned yesterday that one of the few options left for us will be players in their twilight years ie Crouch, Charlie Adams. These simply are not the players to keep us up. Our bench could include Bardsley, Walters Crouch, with respect all 3 are discards from a side that got relegated

I'd actually be okay with Crouch as an option from the bench - he can still be an effective player at PL level. He's a player I thought we might go for but I'd be lying if I said he'd be my first target.

Don't like him but he's 24, English, could easily score a few goals in the championship next season, and could well end up being worth £15 million next Summer. Just because he didn't cut it under Dyche doesn't mean he won't somewhere else.

Whereas Crouchy is one injury away from calling it a day, has no resale value, and will be on a decent wage. Better off sticking with the strikers already there and bumping Agyei up to bench warmer for the season.

Other than Pulis showing an interest in Vokes, is there any reason to suggest we’d entertain selling him?
Pulis should just take Crouch and we can stay out of this particular merry-go-round.

A fanciful thought maybe.... but what if Crouch were signed for £500k and we then made an increased offer for Jay-Rod and Dawson which included Wells plus cash, say £28m or £30m.

Then perhaps there might be enough left in the kitty for Grosicki at around £12m who wants a move and who can play on either wing, Bryan from Bristol City at full back for £8m and the French midfielder who we were linked with for £3m but can't remember his name. The total of £53m can be reduced by selling Walters for £2m and Taylor for £9m or £10m. 6 players in 3 players out and a spend on fees of around £40m

Yes we also lost Arfield and Marney but Marney and Walters had no impact so effectively not a loss in numbers, Wells didn't do much so Crouch for a season may be something different for us. Jay-Rod increases our goal scoring ability and creativity. Grosicki would be good on either wing and could challenge for a place and not just be cover. The French guy would be an unknown in the PL so could spring a surprise or two and reportedly has pace and strength. Dawson would give us more and decent cover at CB. Bryan may be a like for like swap with Taylor. In overall terms we would have a much better squad. Fanciful maybe....yet could just happen.
