I’ve said that I’m not going to judge the transfer window, before it closes.
Saying that, the next 11 days need to be pretty busy; Marney, Arfield and GKN gone from the squad of last season, one that was already a centre half light and since then we have injuries to Heaton, Pope, Defour and Brady.
I hope that the rumoured three incomings is an underestimate, we surely need at least two more than that (a centre half, central midfielder, goalkeeper, number 10 and a wide man) and that’s assuming that Defour and Brady are back sooner than later.
Perhaps not being hasty in the market will prove to be a wise move, but the next week or more will prove to be very interesting, one way or another.
I’m mildly optimistic but doubt we will see enough of the quality brought in that we need. Here’s hoping for a good end to this sunmer’s window.

We haven't got the financial clout or balls to spend it, I'm afraid.
First team standard players are 25m plus by the looks of things.

No you are right - its best just to lump your money on relegation and spend your winnings on two games a week.

My nephew's birthday on that day, hope he gets some nice incoming presents from the club, but can't see 4-5 signings in a week,at a push maybe 2-3 additions, think we'll acquire Dawson but the rest wouldn't like to commit,we'll know soon enough.
Re: 09/08/18
If we're lucky West Brom will cave on one of Dawson or Rodriguez before the deadline. If we're exceptionally lucky we'll get both. Best case scenario we've spent the entire summer chasing two average players for high fees, which sums up our recruitment nicely.
Beyond that nothing doing, no point hoping or expecting anything to happen.

I hope he gets plenty of expensive surprises, Tiger. Suspect one or two might not turn up until late evening!!

Re: 09/08/18
Given the strong possibility the squad and Sean will be in Istanbul on deadline day,how much direct input will the gaffer have,or will it be left to the chairman and others to deal with in/outs.

How much did Heaton, Pope, JBG, Ward, Taylor, Lennon, Brady, Hendrick, Wood, Defour etc. cost?Quickenthetempo wrote:We haven't got the financial clout or balls to spend it, I'm afraid.

Plenty of bargains to had.
Re: 09/08/18
Some of those certainly weren't bargains, Hendrick and Wood in particular.Spijed wrote:How much did Heaton, Pope, JBG, Ward, Taylor, Lennon, Brady, Hendrick, Wood, Defour etc. cost?

You do make a good point though, in that there are other players out there beyond our recruitment list of 1.

Wood who hit double figures last season even with time out injured.ksrclaret wrote:Some of those certainly weren't bargains, Hendrick and Wood in particular.

This close season mass hysteric whingeing is unprecedented.
Re: 09/08/18
Yes that's the Wood I was referring to. Not sure what world you live in but nearly £20 million is not a bargain?Bfcboyo wrote:Wood who hit double figures last season even with time out injured.

As for the "mass hysteric whingeing", I really do suggest you come off this message board and get out more if you think that.

Did we vote in favour or against the new deadline?

In Premiere league goals return money per game. He was a bargain at whatever made up figure you think we paid.ksrclaret wrote:Yes that's the Wood I was referring to. Not sure what world you live in but nearly £20 million is not a bargain?

The market has moved on and our team has got better. If you know of any bargains please share.

But without any signings the club's players who we go in for know we have every penny still and will up their priceSpijed wrote:How much did Heaton, Pope, JBG, Ward, Taylor, Lennon, Brady, Hendrick, Wood, Defour etc. cost?

So leaving it this late there won't be any bargains..

Plenty of bargains playing in Europe, problem is either our European scout gets paid for doing nothing or our management team want to stick with British players if they can (other than Defour - maybe they thought we were signing Defoe)Quickenthetempo wrote:Yeah some were bagrains, some we took a chance on, some were fairly priced and Jeff overpriced.

Just to add, our lads worked so hard last season and deserve a little bit of help in an attempt for them to maintain their current wage levels - only way the club can do that is to sign some players
