If it popped in itself it may have been a subluxation rather proper dislocation but given his job Pope may still need a good time off even without surgery.

I don't think the fact that he is seeing a specialist is either good or bad. It depends what the specialist finds - the shoulder will inevitably have some damage when it dislocates even if it goes straight back, its the nature of the damage that determines how long he will be out.

Tom Heaton needed a shoulder reconstruction hence his very long recovery. I'd be surprised if Pope was out for less than 3 months though. As an outfield player he might have got away with less.

Weve seen with Heaton and Austin how problematic shoulder injuries are. And I suspect psychologicallt as much as anything.

Hopefully its something more like a torn muscle or broken collar bone. But seems unlikely.

I think it would be better if the specialist saw him :D

Either that or he's torn the labrum which makes it easier to put back (have done this to both shoulders). If that is the case then for mere morals like me it took 9 months to recover after surgery. Given all the specialists he will have access to it might be 6-7 months before he's good again... Still, more or less messes up his season... :(

I did the same as a (poor) Goalkeeper many moons ago.

My Centre Half dragged me off the ground with my dislocated limb and it popped back in.

Still had the tearing of the muscles, ligaments and tendons that go with it.

Physio for months afterwards.
