Re: New internet scam?
I would pay them. It would seem they have hijacked your webcam and have evidence of you knocking one out to granny porn.
Shame on you !!
Always cover your webcam with duck tape like the tin foil hat brigade.

It's not tin foil hattery to cover your webcam when you're not using it. People get hacked that way all the time.brexit wrote:I would pay them. It would seem they have hijacked your webcam and have evidence of you knocking one out to granny porn.

I've seen photos where Mark Zuckerberg has tape over his camera on his laptop.

Didn't a young lad commit suicide because of a scam like this?

Re: New internet scam?
I'm surprised Instagram can't/won't do more in such cases. I've been on a privacy-binge in recent months so aside from a password manager, I've got a VPN, different browser and search engine, end-to-end encrypted email and encrypted cloud storage. The next step is getting a more more privacy-focused mobile phone (or taking the necessary steps to make my phone safer).FactualFrank wrote:I lost a one-word Instagram account last year due to hacking - my own fault in a way as I didn't use 2FA but I've learned a lot since. It had over 500,000 followers. What annoyed me is Instagram have no hacking help like Twitter do, so there was no chance of me getting it back. Their advice if hacked is bloody awful.
Re: New internet scam?
The wife got this very email this morning....
I got a shout saying "Help" so went up and she was in bits and very very worried. As the password shown was one she used to use.... before she got a bit more savvy.
I told her it was a scam and showed her these pages and she isn't alone. She (quite innocently) said it had scared the pants off her and that made me laugh due to the nature of the scam email .
I pointed out how can they have hacked a web cam that does not exist.... She also said she has never viewed a porn site. I told her to ignore it.
She has however spent all morning changing her passwords etc to most of what she can remember.
But as most of them are encrypted she didn't have to.
