Yes its a really poor show if we dont fill the Turf.I was there last time we were in Europe and the place was rocking.

All that effort and excitement to get into Europe and apathy. We lose the right to gloat at the feeble efforts of the smaller Lancashire club who bought their entry.

Every ones got commitments to family and work that's paramount...but so many were screaming they didn't have a ticket for the away leg you would think this game would sell out. I'm sure Glasgow Rangers or AC Milan would have.

A club with the European heritage of Aberdeen is a draw for me and British (and world) football owes Scottish football thanks for the passing game. We have about 40k fans that attend games. Some all the time and some on occasions.
But it's sad if more decline to go rather than do.

Regularly watched Torquay as for some reason they often played on a Friday night before Friday nights became a regular fixture slot.
They were poor. Good rivalry with Exeter though, I liked them. They had a proper daft bunch of supporters who enjoyed a good scrap.
Quite a lot of away supporters made a weekend of it in Torquay, especially the ones from up Lancashire/ Yorkshire direction.
Did you ever do that?

The first time Scotty set foot in Canada was when he played a CONCACAF qualifying game in Vancouver. His father was born in Scarberia (that's Scarborough, Ontario to you non-Canucks), but moved back to Scotland, where Scotty was born. As for plastic pitches, it's better to play on "The Frozen Tundra".

Re: Plastic not so fantastic
Having just looked at previous years attendances for premier league clubs for the first game in this micky mouse cup they average out at about two, thirds full for home games which is about what we will probably have.
Full House! Fake news, move on.

Arsenal's ground was three quarters empty for their early EC rounds last season. Stop moaning and a message to those going on: get behind he team from the kick off and sing and shout your hearts out!
Re: Plastic not so fantastic
Why do people get in such a state about the size of crowds?

Blackburn where in a proper European comp so hardly comparable. What I'm saying is there's a lot of obsessing about their crowds ...ours aren't that impressive.

Re: Plastic not so fantastic
Hardly a fair comparison. Arsenal had umpteen consecutive years of Champions League football up until then. Hardly surprising that they couldn’t get excited about a Europa Cup group game.Vino blanco wrote:Arsenal's ground was three quarters empty for their early EC rounds last season. I do find it a bit disappointing that a good proportion of our fan base can’t get up for what is a truly historic occasion, but hey, if they don’t want to come, they don’t want to come.

When we got 7th and qualified for this I was convinced that I’d struggle to get a ticket as I only make 3-4 games a season from Ayrshire
But I’ll be there tomorrow can’t wait just hope that some more fans get out there and buy tickets

Never understood they point of view that some would go on if the opposition were of a higher calibre. When people say it is only Aberdeen does the fact that the other team involved is Burnley not matter ?
If your stance is that you would make more effort if it was a fashionable club we were playing you must find yourself asking which team you actually want to watch.

Over 44 years I have been to every single away ground Burnley has ever played at in one season or another. some of those grounds aren't in the football league any more and some grounds have been knocked down and replaced with new one's and I have done those also. Does that answer your question.

If money is Tight (no job or young family) and it's on tv IT MATTERS
If you work shifts and it's being played on a Thursday night and you don't have any holidays to take at work IT MATTERS
Some people need to take off their claret tinted glasses off and stop slagging fans off because they won't/can't go to the match and think yourself lucky you can

My point is those who aren't going purely due to it being Aberdeen and not some glamour time, if you are still struggling with this ask someone else to explain it to you.

Re: Plastic not so fantastic
Read what I put.............it reads like this. for a game against the likes of Aberdeen and things are tight or difficult some fans will pick and choose the games they watch.
You put.....
If your stance is that you would make more effort if it was a fashionable club we were playing you must find yourself asking which team you actually want to watch
if it was more of a glamour game some fans will make more of an effort to find the money or find a way to get off work doesn't make them any less a Claret
I have been watching Burnley for 44 plus years now. I have enough points to have gone to the away game at Aberdeen but like for the home game this Thursday I'm 4000 odd miles away on holiday. because I didn't fly back and make the effort to help fill the ground
Should I find mysef asking which team I actually want to watch
Like I said in an earlier post there are reasons not excuses some fans aren't filling the ground on Thursday
if you are still struggling with this ask someone else to explain it to you.

If we had played games bang in the middle of Burnley holidays back in the early 60s, then i bet there would have been a very poor attendance. The Enclosure wrote:Yes its a really poor show if we dont fill the Turf.I was there last time we were in Europe and the place was rocking.
Burnley used to be virtually deserted for the wakes weeks.
Not quite the same nowadays, but still the majority of families away during this fortnight.
I know very few who are going on tomorrow, but it's not due to apathy, they're all away, like us

Must admit I'm really surprised.
There's no chance I'd be missing this.
I'll admit there's a bit of disappointment we didn't draw someone further afield, but mainly for the away trip... which would be hard to get a ticket for anyway.
However, as a home game it's a fantastic occasion. I'd rather we played Aberdeen than someone I've never heard of - who knows how many times in my life I will get the opportunity to watch us in Europe.
