Nick Powell

Post by nyclaret » Wed Aug 01, 2018 1:36 pm

In today's Guardian

A transfer target for each Premier League club before the window closes

Burnley: Nick Powell
While Steven Defour and Jack Cork both impressed in the middle of the park for Burnley last season, Jeff Hendrick was far less convincing. With Sean Dyche still lacking some creativity in the middle of the pitch, he should look to Nick Powell, who is entering the final year of his contract at Wigan and has a point to prove having failed to make the grade at Manchester United. Burnley have picked up a few players in that position, including Tom Heaton, Michael Keane and Robbie Brady.

I don't think he has the temperament to play in a Sean Dyche team, great ability but comes across as a work shy FOP

This is why we aren't wasting money on a scouting network - we just wait for newspapers to recommend players.

Not sure whether any true, but I think this guy has matured and become a more rounded, consistent player. Held in high regard by Latics fans and he could be worth a punt.

Nick Powell is a player I've only seen in despatches, but always looks like he had quality to be unlocked.

I think the most disappointing thing about 'not getting anyone through the door yet' - apart from the fact that our manager's pre-season plans have been acutely undermined, is the fact that we haven't replaced the departures of Arfield and Marney. I would have hoped whatever our top targets - we would have had a couple of Championship hopefuls with good pedigree to boost our options across the pitch. Nick Powell, and the likes of O'Connell at Sheff Utd, or Woods at Brentford, would be the types I'd have thought we'd be having a go for.

When you consider that all of our success stories have been these type of players - only really Cork and Lennon could be considered established Prem players when we signed them - we seem to have adopted quite a stringent strategy this time around. Its this profile of player I'd have thought we could have really sold the vision of the club to, clubs where a £8-£10m windfall would be hugely desirable, rather than the parachutists, who can afford to sit tight.

Right position, wrong player for me. They’re right in saying Hendrick needs benching, but Nick Powell just isn’t at that level.

I admittedly have only watched him on a couple of occasions the last time being against the Barstewards and he was lacking in effort in that game the biggest match of Wigan's season. When on the ball he looked capable but without the ball he was lazy in my humble opinion......

I work with a Latics season ticket holder and he can’t stand him. Soft lad, selfish and not the most popular amongst the rest of the squad. Make of that what you will.
