Re: RIP Pete Wharton
I played in the same team as Pete 'Watty' for a couple of seasons back in the day.
He was a bloody good footballer at amateur level and it's anybody's guess how good he could have been but for his poor eyesight.
After a long illness Pete passed away peacefully around 5 am today.
RIP Fella.

Re: RIP Pete Wharton
I was talking to Bev from Rossy Clarets this morning and she told me about Pete. It's a long, long time ago but I played football against him a few times and he was a very, very good player despite always playing with his specs on.
Apparently he's been unwell for some time. Nice lad and really sad news.

Re: RIP Pete Wharton
nice one fatboy...Alan is a very good friend of mine, [and a few more Waterfoot/St Theodore's lads from those times].... I was at St Teds with him throughout, and we meet up a few times a year - he still thinks he's a good footballer.. ..and worse...he is a fan of the blue and white quartered shirt....I think he still drinks Dark Mild..
RIP Peter Wharton.
RIP Peter Wharton.
Re: RIP Pete Wharton
That's the the first thing I remember playing against him with his specs on. Haven't seen him at the gym for a good while. Now I know why. Yes hampers...his footie allegiances were suspect...I never saw him on the 236 ribble bus over to the turf....you can tell him you were talking to RP from Elizabeth street...close friend of MC. and DW...he will know who you mean....we played plenty of footie in the old schoolyard at WWB.

Pete also had a biting wit and some of his put downs in the changing room were hilarious.
