I can't say it was a potential transfer that excited me.

A player that transfers with a 25% sell on fee could be termed a quarterback.FactualFrank wrote:It's a very strange term to use, especially as there's existing 'soccer' terms to use in it's place. It's clearly an attempt to come across as more intelligent, yet fails.

regardless of the extent of injury he may have or have had, if he can't start the season he's no good to us.

You mean in January? Not much time now to identify, agree fee, agree terms, get medical done and signed on dotted line.AshevilleNCClaret wrote:official.

I think we learnt from Wells . Big money and wages mean players have to be fit. Players and agents cannot have it both ways.
Re: £8m bid for Clucas in - Nixon
Meh, not right bothered.
We need a forward thinking, creative type to come in and give the team what it lacks, not an injured Clucas.

Lets get Woods from Brentford in now a year early. We would have only been after him next year. What with Cork, then Clucas...next years midfield target will surely have been him

Dyche is a clever guy, not as clever as he thinks he is, but still, a clever guy.
When those comments came out last week about the market, and about players and agents who endear themselves to him with their approach to personal terms, it sounded to me like a barbed remark about someone in particular. Clucas would be the prime candidate. That is on top of the rumours from S Wales about his character. I'm speculating of course but it reminds me of a Grosicki style situation. If so, we're well shut.

Clucas wanted more money, Grosicki wanted his gambling debts paid off. Maybe similar in that both involve money but they're not the same in terms of what it means about their characters.CrosspoolClarets wrote:Dyche is a clever guy, not as clever as he thinks he is, but still, a clever guy.

Re: £8m bid for Clucas in - Nixon
I haven't got a clue how good Ryan Wood is, but Brentford have a great record of bringing players through. He would be cheaper, less wages, and a lot better prospect. It wouldn't be the end if he only played cameos this season, he can learn the Burnley way and kick on for next season.
In Clucas I think we dodged a bullet. If its true he wants more money, then I think he over rates himself a lot, and that alone would not fit into our mentality.

to be honest, we need someone who can walk into our first team such is our need for creativity, a prospect who can get the odd minute here and there isn't what is required at this pointColburn_Claret wrote:I haven't got a clue how good Ryan Wood is, but Brentford have a great record of bringing players through. Just read an article that quoted Sean Dyche as "having a long running interest in Sam Clucas"
Pity he didn't sign him from Chesterfield then at what would have been a fraction of the asking price now.

Hi CrosspoolClarets
Could you enlighten me about your sentence, please?
"Dyche is a clever guy, not as clever as he thinks he is, but still, a clever guy."
"...not as clever as he thinks he is..."
Bit of a slight, there. what has he said/does he say to make you write that? Just wondering, like.
Cheers.

Re: £8m bid for Clucas in - Nixon
Strange one this as BBC say the deal fell through due to failing to agree personal terms. Seems odd to agree a fee have medical and then agree wages. Fee,wages and then medical would seem the usual way.
