Re: New bid for Jay Rod
W.B.A. should really put him on ebay with a "Buy him now" price and then we could just put in our maximum bid and would then see if anyone else was interested.

Really? They have selected 7 subs...so are you saying 3 of them 7 are keepers?BarrowfordClaret87 wrote:Only four outfield players on the bench.
Reckon they’ll be keen to do a deal quickly to reinvest or no deal at all to keep him.
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
You can play 2 goalkeepers in the FL this seasonJakubs Tash wrote:Really? They have selected 7 subs...so are you saying 3 of them 7 are keepers?
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Apologies - just reread your post. Thought you were saying use Wells as a make weight in the Jay deal.summitclaret wrote:I clearly did not say that. Just move them on not to wba.
I think we could struggle to get any money for Wells or Walters because of their wages. Personally i would still move them both on for nothing to free up some budget. Telling that we brought McNeill on the other night before either.

Macca - point being they won’t want it to drag on as if it does, they don’t have any time to replace him.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
If we can move both Walters or Wells on even as a free transfer, this would free squad places for incomings, and also hopefully give us more leeway for new signings wage demands,i can't see either having much of an impact next season even from the bench,so it makes sense for all parties if clubs could be found for them to play regular football,at Championship level both could be effective.TVC15 wrote:Apologies - just reread your post. Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Partly due to the fact that they stocked their squad with expensive players on high wages in the upper age range.IanMcL wrote:Massive rebuild at WBA. E season's ago, they were a well run club with sound finances. A reminder for Burnley.
They went all in to stay with little regard to the future and ended up dropping with few players on their books that could be sold to bring any real money back in.
If it wasn't for our solitary interest in Dawson and Jay Rod, along with Newcastle for Rondon, they would be looking to rebuild with their parachute payments and little more. Taking advantage of their fall to restructure and bring in some younger players with development potential is a good forward thinking move by them.
We aren't in the same position yet, because we have some attractive younger players in the form of Tarks, Pope and Taylor who would certainly attract a lot of interest if we experience a hiccup.
If we continue to stack our older deck with expensive signings to replace departing players we could find ourselves in the same position. A healthy mix is needed so I'm happy to see us targeting players like Mawson and Gibson.
It's also nice to see our domestic youth recruitement moving forward and some of our younger players being given the opportunity for a run out in the first team.
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Did we not just receive 20 million more than we thought we'd get for our finishing position last season, for Christ sake pay the money and move on.

So would you seriously not allow Walters to leave for nothing if a club was willing to take him and he was willing to go?taio wrote:We should never be letting contracted players leave for nothing especially Wells.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
BBC reporting Rondon (who isn't in the squad today) close to Newcastle move.
I'd be very surprised if they sell JayRod too unless we come in with silly money (unlikely) in time for them to make a move on Thursday.
I have a feeling they aren't up for it and we've gotten the message.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
I don't see any indication Jay is interested in returning to Burnley or staying in the Prem.
Not a whiff or slightest hint in the press througout the whole saga. It could be a one sided love affair.

He wants to come. He just doesn't want to hand a transfer request in at a club that stuck by him during the whole Bong saga.cblantfanclub wrote:I don't see any indication Jay is interested in returning to Burnley or staying in the Prem.

Apparently wants to join us but doesn't want to force the issue publically because of how West Brom supported him over the Bong incident.cblantfanclub wrote:I don't see any indication Jay is interested in returning to Burnley or staying in the Prem.

But Walters was told early this Summer he could look for another club. You won’t get killed in the stampede to sign him.Devils_Advocate wrote:So would you seriously not allow Walters to leave for nothing if a club was willing to take him and he was willing to go?

I dont get your point?piston broke wrote:But Walters was told early this Summer he could look for another club. You won’t get killed in the stampede to sign him.
Taio said we should NEVER let any player under contract leave for nothing. I was surprised at this viewpoint and clarified it by asking if that would even apply to Walters as I can not believe anyone wouldnt see the value of getting him off our wage bill.
Taio clarified his opinion and confirmed he wouldnt even let Walters go for free which is true to his original statement so whilst I am shocked he thinks that way thats up to him so there was nothing for me to discuss with him on the matter
Now you quote me and make a point which I dont get why it was directed at me so please explain if im missing something obvious please
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Don't have a strong view on Walters if I'm honest. But there's no way we should let Wells go for nothing which is why I specifically referred to him and at not Walters.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
I know but you said we should never let any contracted player and then confirmed to me that applied to Walters when i asked. I strongly disagree but have no problem with you having a different opinion thats what this board is all about. I was just a bit confused about Piston quoting me with his comment
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Yeah on reflection my choice of words were poor - there are circumstances when it would be appropriate to let a player leave for nothing if a fee isn't going to materialise and the player has no realistic future at the club. My main emphasis - in my head at least - was on Wells for obvious reasons.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Do you really see a future for Wells at this club? Letting him leave for free would remove a pointless waste of a wage. The same an be said for Walters.taio wrote:Yeah on reflection my choice of words were poor - there are circumstances when it would be appropriate to let a player leave for nothing if a fee isn't going to materialise and the player has no realistic future at the club. I would guess we would let Walters go for free baring in mind his age
If Wells was to go I would think we would want a fee

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
If Wells was on the market tomorrow its hard to see how we could get over a million for him...and probably harder to see anyone matching what we must be paying him...despite the usual defensive comments on here, that was definitely a case of good money spunked.mkmel wrote:I would guess we would let Walters go for free baring in mind his age

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
That's Boden doing what he's told to do by the club, so the fans can get ready for disappointment. If he wanted to come, If we really wanted him and If wba wanted to sell, he'd come here..... Somebody else offers him more money we will see how much he really wants to come homePearcey wrote:Boden has just said we face missing out on Jay Rod. 3 Premier League clubs now in for him.

We would have had to pay more for dawson.
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
We need to stop messing about and pay more than the going rate. We need signings not just to satisfy UTC posters but also if we are going to finish in the top 6. Garlick needs to get his cheque book out before its all too late.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
OMG delusions of grandeur. We are a small fish in an enormous pond and will remain so until someone with more money than we ever dreamed of takes over the club but lets hope said person has more sense than money as our present Board seem to have. Such a person is unlikely to spend that money here due to our ground size and fan base. I have little doubt that the "cheque book" has been out and open since the window opened but for any potential signing it is more than likely we will not get them if another Premier league club want them due to the difference in £££££££££££ these clubs have over us.NL Claret wrote:We need to stop messing about and pay more than the going rate.
