These are great times to be a Claret. Hope we can do this.

I really hope we don't pay £20 million because he really isn't worth that even in this market.

If this comes off you can only assume it means Vokes to Boro. I hope not, would love to see Jay as well, but surprised we would run with 5 strikers, assuming Wells and Walters go as well.

Being in Turkey isn't a problem, we're leaving a work experience lad to sign the contracts and send the paperwork to the FA.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
I certainly wouldn't be disappointed to see Jay back in a Burnley shirt, but with Barnes, Wood, Vydra and Vokes I think we might have enough up top. If we were to sign one more player, a wide midfielder or even a central midfielder would be top of the list for me in terms of squeezing the most out of our budget. As I say though, would certainly not be disappointed either!
Re: New... new bid for Rodriguez
Rather get Bolasie
Re: New... new bid for Rodriguez
Interesting comments about not being worth £20m. Who then could you buy at that figure. Also when you look at the amounts clubs are spending on individual players perhaps £20m is the going rate. Dyche made reference to the crazy figures recently.

We paid £15-18 million for someone who'd barely been in the PL but was championship top scorer.Blackrod wrote:I really hope we don't pay £20 million because he really isn't worth that even in this market.
£20 million for someone with a decent scoring record when fit isn't a bad price.
Re: New... new bid for Rodriguez
The thing is Jay-Rod will have little or no sell on value due to his age, but Chris Wood will.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:We paid £15-18 million for someone who'd barely been in the PL but was championship top scorer.

His resale value isn't what's important though, it's his goals and creativity we want.Spijed wrote:The thing is Jay-Rod will have little or no sell on value due to his age, but Chris Wood will.

I would think, generally, Dyche's work would have been done and any further deals, if there are to be any. He's already left for Turkey in any case. He'll be contactable if needed.

Re: New... new bid for Rodriguez
Maybe not but when you look at Bamford being 10m and Diouf being valued at 15m I think it is about right.Blackrod wrote:I really hope we don't pay £20 million because he really isn't worth that even in this market.
The problem as I see it is that nowadays clubs want instant success. So what happens is that clubs get players like Ba, Cisse, Ighalo, Gray and the like who all do it but after 1 good season they want to leave. Now this then creates a problem for their club as they have to replace players each year.
We do not have that problem majorly. Yes we lost Keane and Gray but I think for the money we got they were good deals for the club. By paying a premium on Jay Rod which we will be if we sign him. We know he will be here for the duration of his contract. Thats 1 less player to replace each year and saves time for the board and manager in sourcing new players.
Yes we could sign a player from the french league but if he has a good season we know he will then want to up sticks and move for a bigger contract elsewhere. Upsetting the dressing room as well as causing unneeded disruption. Not that I am against signing players from this league I just understand the caution we use.

If we're signing someone for goals then Rodriguez doesn't look to be the one.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:His resale value isn't what's important though, it's his goals and creativity we want.
Looking at minutes per goal last season:
Wood 163
Barnes 240
Vokes 245
Rodriguez 403
You could argue that he was in a struggling West Brom team last season, they scored 5 fewer than us in total.

Surely SD doesn't have to be physically there for deals to be wrapped up, if the work has already been done beforehand. You'd expect it to be a case of dotting the i's and crossing the t's.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
SIMON JONES: Burnley have made a fresh approach for West Bromwich Albion forward Jay Rodriguez and could include striker Sam Vokes in the deal.
Albion have so far rebuffed three offers from Burnley believed to be up to £16m. However, Sean Dyche, having signed Matej Vydra from Derby on Tuesday, has instigated new talks with Albion open to a deal that includes cash plus Vokes.
The 28-year-old Wales international is also wanted by Middlesbrough but Darren Moore hopes to convince him of a move to the Hawthorns where he would replace Salomon Rondon and link up with Dwight Gayle.
Middlesbrough are also talking to West Ham regarding a loan for Jordan Hugill.

So 8m + Vokes? Does that sound about right?
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
It’s not going to be that easy for Vokes to sign for anyone before 5pm on Thursday. I assume he’s in Istanbul already, or on the way there, and will be fully involved in preparations for Thursday.

I'm sure SD will have sat down with Vokes and talked to him about the move. If he's up for it he can easily get a flight back to the UK today, surely?martin_p wrote:It’s not going to be that easy for Vokes to sign for anyone before 5pm on Thursday. I’d prefer to have him in the squad for Thursday night. Is Wood fit? Leaves us a bit light up front if not.Spijed wrote:I'm sure SD will have sat down with Vokes and talked to him about the move. If he's up for it he can easily get a flight back to the UK today, surely?

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Maybe the manager is thinking if we can include vokes in any deal for jay rod we will save money and the extra money thats available can contribute to getting in a winger . Thats if this turns out to be true
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Vokes is going nowhere! Why would we sell our best striker? N to swap for Jay rod would be absolutely crazy me thinks..Spijed wrote:I'm sure SD will have sat down with Vokes and talked to him about the move. If he's up for it he can easily get a flight back to the UK today, surely?

If we're losing Vokes I'd rather bring in Crouch than Jay. We need a big forward for the last 15 mins.
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Personally I wouldn't entertain the idea of moving Vokes on.
