New bid for Jay Rod
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
I’ve just heard that we have not made any further approach for Jay. Currently no offer on the table.

Game time will probably be the top of his priorities

Re: New... new bid for Rodriguez
In regards to West Brom could that be a creativity issue?aggi wrote:If we're signing someone for goals then Rodriguez doesn't look to be the one.
Looking at minutes per goal last season:
Wood 163
Barnes 240
Vokes 245
Rodriguez 403
You could argue that he was in a struggling West Brom team last season, they scored 5 fewer than us in total.
He still did relativity well, especially when compared to Ayew, who someone on here said he has an eye for goal
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
As much as I love the thought of our Jay coming home, I would rather have Vokes.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Vokes’s goals have been priceless for us, not least because no one else in the squad would have scored a lot of them. He is a better header of the ball than Wood and puts himself about more. In some games he looks like a fish out of water but I think we still need him.
Re: New... new bid for Rodriguez
There could be, but if he comes here there will still be the same creativity issue. We're not the most creative of teams, West Brom had the same number of shots as us last season.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:In regards to West Brom could that be a creativity issue?

The chances of it happening nowadays may be thin but who wouldn't be surprised if deals didn't go ahead because they couldn't get hold of Dyche in Turkey?

Our best striker? Obviously Dyche disagrees, when all strikers are fully fit it's quite clear Wood was first choice, with Barnes 2nd. How many times did Vokes start last year? must be around 5 games.claretdj wrote:Vokes is going nowhere! Why would we sell our best striker? N to swap for Jay rod would be absolutely crazy me thinks..

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
looking at the signing of Vydra and the interest in Jay, it might be that we aren't going to be as direct this season - IF that is the case then Sam might get very little game time. He's been a huge player for us and 'd be sad to see him go tbh

Wood has a scoring record better than one every two games? I’m genuinely shocked at that.aggi wrote:If we're signing someone for goals then Rodriguez doesn't look to be the one.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
I hope we keep Sam. I'm a huge fan and always have been. His goals to minutes ratio in the Premier League is fantastic, and he links the play more smoothly than either Barnes or Wood (although Barnes is better at battling on his own, and Wood runs the channels more effectively). And he's an all round good egg.
If Jay comes in, there must be a good chance he's surplus to requirements though. Jay post injuries looks to be a very effective, but slightly different player - less explosive and quick, so less suited to playing out wide, and more about playing to his intelligence and technical skill in a slightly deeper version of the role Sam plays. I'm not sure how they'd play together effectively, which must restrict further the minutes Sam would get on the pitch.
That said, we had 5 strikers last season - Walters being the 5th until he got injured - so perhaps we'd want the same number this time around. The difficulty is keeping 5 strikers in their prime happy. That might be more doable if we're in Europe, so it may be that we want to keep Vokes for now and see how we get on in the qualifiers before offering him a loan move.

If we were 1 nil down with ten minutes to go , who would you like to come on to rescue a point, J-rod or Vokesy? Vokesy every time for me.

Vokesy every time
Big Sam doesn't simply score vital goals he stops other teams from scoring vital goals.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
If you want to play football rather than just hoofing it up front then who would you rather have? Jay Rod every time for me.
Sam has been great and I certainly wouldn't want him to go for the reasons stated above, but maybe this is Sean Dyche's way of evolving our style of play a little more. All of Barnes, Wood and Jay are good in the air (Yes Vokes is better than all of them probably) and they are all better footballers for me.

All 3 of our main strikers last season had outstanding goalscoring records. Hugely underrated. That's never been our issue with goalscoring. Our issue has been that the rest of the team doesn't score many goals.Winstonswhite wrote:Wood has a scoring record better than one every two games? I’m genuinely shocked at that.

Don’t really buy into the hype of Rodriguez coming home, Vokes is more burnley then Rodriguez will ever be and him leaving might be one of the saddest I’ve felt about a player leaving.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Just can't recall Sam coming off the bench with minutes to go to see out a victory. Barnes has though. As some have suggested any move could well be instigated by Sam himself. 7 starts last season,I believe, suggests that he wants a lot more game time and no one can blame him for that.A model professional on and off the field, something that Dyche craves but the irony may be that he will have to let his 'good egg' find pastures new in preparation for the return of the prodigal son.
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Vokes out of contract at the end of the season and could leave for nothing. Makes sense to me!!!
May have turned down a new contract or not willing, last chance to cash in is now

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Can't allow sentimentality to get in the way of progress yet ironically jay in and Sam out both carry the sentimentality tag. We continue to evolve which is vital as if you stand still you get found out in this league. I think the style of play Dyche wants to evolve towards will see Big Sam on his way one way or another.
Re: New... new bid for Rodriguez
I knew he scored a decent amount last season but I was a bit surprised too. He scored 10 and only started 16 matches though.Winstonswhite wrote:Wood has a scoring record better than one every two games? I’m genuinely shocked at that.

Nah, that we would be petty and we are bigger and better than that.TheFamilyCat wrote:Is this our payback on West Brom? We buy Jay, loan them Vokes, then recall him.
We simply sit back and watch their dream of promoting back up at the first time of asking fade and die. By the next window reality should have set in.
We can then go back and make them early "take it or leave it" offers at prices far below what they are currently asking, providing that we are still interested in any of their players.
If those offers aren't acceptable, or they are still deluding themselves, we learn our lesson from this window (and other windows in the case of WBA) and quickly move on.
