New bid for Jay Rod
According to the Daily Telegraph. John Percy is not often far off the mark.

I swear if we offered £50 million for a West Brom player, they'd reject it

How much more can West Brom expect for a 29 year old player?

Around 20
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
To be honest if £24m is the going rate for Ings then there’s no way they’ll go below £20m.
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
The Sky TV money, whilst much appreciated, doesn't really stretch too far these days, does It?

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Imo opinion he's worth 20, he always was.
He showed last season his injury is behind him. He can play central or out wide. Scores goals on a regular enough basis. Good on the ground and in the air. The only downside is his age, but 29 isn't old. I don't know why we are dithering, if all the the rumours are true.

In my opinion, if Chris Wood was worth £15m las year, Jay is worth £20m this year. Surely they wouldn't turn that down.

Ings isn't worth £15million never mind £25. Jay will hopefully sign for £20million.martin_p wrote:To be honest if £24m is the going rate for Ings then there’s no way they’ll go below £20m.

I think I'm following the same path as Dyche in the way when the story came about that they wanted a 40m bid for Jay and Dawson, i was definitely in the 10m too much and walk away camp. But the current money flying about I would be tempted to just pay up.

he was excellent last season and looked to be well over his injury, has deffo lost a yard or two of pace but that's fairly normal. Given the fact we don't look abroad just pay the ******* money

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Just pay it if it's twenty. We can always write off the four mil or so we'll be getting from Liverpool
from the sale of Ings to subsidise it. (And pretend he's still at Anfield) That'll make it £16 million.
Owt to shut the terminally-depressed up on here.

Saw Jay play a number of times last season and he's still a very good player, in my opinion. I think we've made a fair offer considering his age though.

That's a very pessimistic view. An optimist would say that the board are trying to get it through before the game tonight - along with Clucas to give the fans and players a big much needed lift for a very important game.Cleveleys_claret wrote:Fake bid. Re: New bid for Jay Rod
£16m is a very fair offer, taking everything into account. If none of our current strikers are looking to leave us in this window we don't need another one urgently. Jay Rod can't say we haven't bent over backwards trying to bring him in either. £20m is extortion when you consider that no other clubs are even remotely interested in him.
We can always try again in the next window if anything changes regarding our current strike force.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Injury prone and age - nowhere worth 20 million more like 10 and no more.
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
No other clubs seemed to be remotely interested in the other players we were on the verge of signing this summer either but that didn't stop us being gazumped a few times already!£20m is extortion when you consider that no other clubs are even remotely interested in him.
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
He won't but if Jay was to kick up a fuss and make it clear he wants to join us then maybe West Brom would accept our £16M bid rather than keep an unsettled player
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
76 games in the last two seasons probably puts the "injury prone" comment to bed. He basically had 18 months out after his cruciate injury which meant zero appearances in 14/15 and only 16 appearances in 15/16. Other than that his stats are good. If Ings is going for £24m after playing 25 games in three years I think Jay is safely worth £20m!!BOYSIE31 wrote:Injury prone and age - nowhere worth 20 million more like 10 and no more.

apparently jay had not said he want a transfer with West Brom backing him with the racist false claim against him last season
Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Fair starting bid I’d say. They bought him for £12m a year ago. I’m hoping we can get him. Would be a fantastic signing.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
He's still got 3-4 years left on his contract, WBA don't need to sell and he will score goals in the championship.
Rondon could be off so if we want Jay we need to get upping our offers.

Hope we can agree a fee quickly, with Rondon having a 16 million release clause I doubt they would let both leave

Do neurotics like SGr and Cleveleys_Claret (not sure in what sense the "Claret" is being used there) waste as much of their lives catastrophising about their real-life problems as they do about Burnley's transfer policy? They must be very tiresome people to have to live with.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Rondon is a bargain at 16mill.
The problem for us and probably Ashley, is his wage demands. As long as Rondons sale is in the air it's hard to see them releasing Jay Rod.

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
Apparently there was a time limit on the release clauses of Hegazi, Chadli and Rondon which have now expired. As such, none are available as 'easily' as they might have been which could help us in our quest. Particularly with even the Newcastle manager seemingly having a meltdown similar to some of our own fans wobbles over how their club is being run

Good news. I always like to see other clubs' managers coming out with statements saying the players he has now aren't good enough. It helps foster a spirit of defeat. If they do it well enough and often enough, like Moyes at Sunderland, the effects go on for years!South West Claret. wrote:Talking of Newcastle things not so rosy there:

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
I thought the news from WBA weeks ago was they wanted £18 Million for Jay and we offered £12 Million, so we are now at a stage where we have offered £16 MIllion and we are said to be close.
Maybe £2 Million short of the fee to get him? FFS

Re: New bid for Jay Rod
A far better player than when we sold him. My concern is a lot of money for someone who is far from a spring chicken and has had serious injury problems. Looks like he's fully recovered but it's a big risk if it's going to cost 20m.
Suppose there's always the argument a blemish free player could do an acl in their 1st game as a counter to that.
All being said, fee and injuries aside. I'd be happy with him as a signing. Technically he'd easily be our best striker and comfortable playing advanced wide left as an option. Although different styles of striker, compared to Barnes as our other, yes i can drift wide left player I'd take Jay over him.

I don’t personally think Rondon would be right for us anyway. He’s more of a target man which we essentially already have 3 of. Rodriguez links midfield to attack and that is perfect for what we need at the moment.Colburn_Claret wrote:Rondon is a bargain at 16mill.
