Ben Gibson
Re: Ben Gibson
Same old Steddyman. Obsessed with transfers and rarely talks football.
Re: Ben Gibson
Well it's not the first time we've been used to get a player a better deal elsewhere ie; Mawson, Lansbury, Dawson. We seem to hang around forever, and then it's too late.

Re: Ben Gibson
Reading the teeside gazette this morning, pulis will only let him leave providing there’s a incoming defender to replace, in that event that BG leaves I’m not sure how far on that is or if a suitable replacement has been identified nevermind negotiations, I should imagine from that point of view sooner that later would be the favourite with how long is left in the window.claretrobo1 wrote:Pulls suggesting the only way he will still be at the club is if he doesn't want to leave, so it seems like the issue of sorting out a fee will be pretty easy to get by. Re: Ben Gibson
Even if, as you say, we didn't hang around the player and his agent would still make our offer public knowledge.Murger wrote:Well it's not the first time we've been used to get a player a better deal elsewhere ie; Mawson, Lansbury, Dawson. We seem to hang around forever, and then it's too late.
It seems we never had any chance of signing Mawson.

Why when everything was agreed? Surely we've been through it enough times to know when we're being played.Spijed wrote:Even if, as you say, we didn't hang around the player and his agent would still make our offer public knowledge.

Re: Ben Gibson
Unfortunately after the initial excitement of our bid, I don't think we will get Gibson because:
a) Our ridiculous incremental bidding approach allows more time for other parties to get involved and out bid us
b) Our bids have been projected everywhere by Boro and also Pulis comments to create a bidding war which we will inevitably lose.
If we had been more aggressive we could have at least forced the hand of other clubs interested earlier (or got the player) and then moved on. Our approach risks missing preferred targets or being held to random right at end of window anyway.
Hope I'm wrong.

If the reports are true then this is good business, well executed. No complaints from me at all

Graeme Bailey says he'll be a Burnley player before monday. Usually reliable isn't he?

Don’t think we have that many targets. We swim in a self-imposed very small pool.quoonbeatz wrote:offer to top target, give them 24 hours, then move on to target 2, 24 hours, move on to target 3, 24 hours, move on to target 4, 24 hours, move on to target 5, 24 hours, move on to target 6.
at least its a way of getting our business done quickly given we'd have exhausted our list of targets in about a week.

Super signing if true. A very good player who will improve once he learns the Burnley Way.
Re: Ben Gibson
Wow if the recent info today about Joe Hart and now Gibson are true the Club have yet again IMO done some good business. Add in Clucas and we are now staring to motor. If all three come off we just need one more provided Ben stays, two if he goes

Re: Ben Gibson
Don't know much about him but my Boro-supporting mate rates him highly and he's generally got a good eye for a player. I'm happy with this, just hope it doesn't mean that Ben's going. If we can get his contract renewed that'll be the signing of the window for me.

Weird as I’m sure most of the summer I’ve read on here how poor we are at recruitment....

The only real good thing about the word fenestration is the verb to defenestrate but it is nice to see, if true, that we are not being ****ed for once

We lack some creativity to support the strikers / be more effective going forward. Our struggles breaking down Aberdeen last night showed that.
We are effectively three down from last season (Marney, Arfield and GKN). Add to this the fact that Defour and Brady are both currently suffering setbacks following long term injuries, one more (plus Clucas and Jay) is probably not enough and on top of that, adding extra games into the mix if we progress again.

I would imagine by Monday the topic will move back to how embrassing the ground is and how we need a 50k seater stadium.

Re: Ben Gibson
If I was Ben Mee I would be worried. If Gibson has a long contract and Mee is riding his out who does SD play? I think the answer is obvious. And who pays top dollar in wages for someone who is not playing regular 1st team football.

But it's telling that all these moves have broken from the other end.
Good sign that it's a tight ship at the moment.

Re: Ben Gibson
I’m another one of the “we dodged a bullet with Mawson” camp - I think Gibson is better and although he dropped form last season (according to Boro fans) he’s still got it, and like Hart with Mercer, Gibson will benefit from our knowledge base on defending and framework.
Re: Ben Gibson
Clearly something has shifted at the board level with this big influx of offers going out. This is the complete opposite of our approach until this point.
Good to see. I'm glad Mike reads the board and has listened to me

Correct and that will still be the case if we sign Rodriguez, think to get that balance we will have to find new homes for Walters and Wells first.Vegas Claret wrote:still need a creative number 10, it's the one thing we desperately need

So you think somehow CT writes an article with all the information and photographs perfectly formatted in the instant of a "publicised" report? believe what you like but I prefer Fact and until either BFC of CT publish, it is still not over the line for me and once bitten twice shy etc...

I said on another thread somewhere that the result of last nights match would be crucial to getting things moving - different players would have been options had we lost - these seem to be the “winners” prizesSteddyman wrote:Clearly something has shifted at the board level with this big influx of offers going out.
