Looks like you were.Stevie Morgan wrote:Unfortunately after the initial excitement of our bid, I don't think we will get Gibson because:
a) Our ridiculous incremental bidding approach allows more time for other parties to get involved and out bid us
b) Our bids have been projected everywhere by Boro and also Pulis comments to create a bidding war which we will inevitably lose.
If we had been more aggressive we could have at least forced the hand of other clubs interested earlier (or got the player) and then moved on. Our approach risks missing preferred targets or being held to random right at end of window anyway.
Hope I'm wrong.

Dyche has clearly been laying the law down with his increasingly frustrated comments to the press. You can only imagine what he’s been saying - possibly threatening - in the boardroom.

Re: Ben Gibson
This is a stunning signing at that value. If Dyche can work his magic on him the same way he did Keane, Shackl, Mee and Tarky then we will have another £40/50m defender at the end of this coming season, and probably another England international - that’s how highly I rate Gibson’s potential.
I prey this isn’t seeing Mee leave though as it would be fantastic to have those three really elite quality centre backs (for our non top 6/rest of Prem level) all competing for the first 11. It might even allow SD the chance to try a 352 out.

Hi mdd2, always some interesting stuff in Wikipedia:mdd2 wrote:Hi Paul I was being a tad rude as there is another meaning to defenestrate and relates to another kind of "window" which gets broken in ladies, hence my barbed reference to us being ****ed in the transfer market.
"Defenestration is the act of throwing someone or something out of a window.[1] The term was coined around the time of an incident in Prague Castle in the year 1618, which became the spark that started the Thirty Years' War. This was done in "good Bohemian style" and referred to the defenestration which had occurred in Prague's City Hall almost 200 years earlier (July 1419), which also at that occasion led to war, the Hussite war.[2] The word comes from the New Latin[3] de- (out of or away from) and fenestra (window or opening).[4] Likewise, it can also refer to the condition of being thrown out of a window, as in "The Defenestration of Ermintrude Inch".[5]
While the act of defenestration connotes the forcible or peremptory removal of an adversary, and the term is sometimes used in just that sense,[6] it also suggests breaking the windows in the process (de- also means removal)."
I've learnt something about the "Prague Castle defenestration." First time I heard the word I believe was in relation to Prague Spring, 1968. It was also reported that defenestration was "exercised" during the Hungarian uprising in 1956. I am too young to claim contemporary knowledge at that time.

Nice thought, but I really don’t see how SD saying publicly - a week before the window shuts - that if you want to get deals done these days you need to pay full whack, means that we’re going to get players any cheaper. Certainly we seem to be paying the asking price for Gibson, and will probably have to for Jayrod if we’re to get that one done.Paul Waine wrote:Anyone think that Sean Dyche and Mike Garlick have got everything planned together?

Re: Ben Gibson
I only last year learned what fenestration is. Architects talk of it when referring to the windows of a building - 'tedious fenestration'.
Now we are talking 'defenestration' and apparently there are sexual connotations to the word. It's too much for a young lad.

Has Ben Gibson ever been called up to the England squad?
Re: Ben Gibson
Fenestra latin means an opening in a wall or a window hence fenetre in French meaning window.
As for Paul's last post I had seen it tonight when I googled for reference to deflowering which is also there but disputed although it has been used pari passu with defenestartion in my circles for many a year but of course it may be incorrect.

Re: Ben Gibson
No way are Burnley going to adopt a 352 formation. The whole defensive system is based on a solid back 4 where players know where they ought to be on the field when we haven't got the ball. It's taken a lot of time, hard work and drills to reach where we are and that isn't going to change under Sean Dyche's watch very soon.jedi_master wrote:This is a stunning signing at that value. Maybe some kind of gentleman's agreement that if they didn't go up last season he could leave? Also he's probably not big or numb enough for a Pulis centre half, didn't they sign Aden Flint from Bristol this summer?

Their fans seemed surprisingly non plussed on the forum I read, by all accounts he’s not been in good form over the last season. In fact plenty of them seemed quite happy to see him go. Im sure Sean will sort him out.
I wonder if they’ll get it over the line in time for Sunday’s friendly. And will he automatically be available for Europa League ?

Re: Ben Gibson
Apparently ‘promised’ a move when Boro didn’t bounce back as Southgate told him he wouldn’t be considered for England playing in the Championship. He agreed to give it a year and has fallen out of the England frame. This was the talk up there immediately after the end of the season - the only surprise is that it’s taken all summer for someone to come in for him. Good for us.

Hi scouse, my point is that Sean Dyche and Mike Garlick have not fallen out. Everyone is working together. Sean's interviews is sending the message "Burnley will not overpay" - in a way that helps our cause.scouseclaret wrote:Nice thought, but I really don’t see how SD saying publicly - a week before the window shuts - that if you want to get deals done these days you need to pay full whack, means that we’re going to get players any cheaper. I'd seen City quoted as wanting £5 million for Joe Hart - it's now being reported we've got him for £4 million.
Let's wait and see how all the other business turns out.

If he had Ashleys elbows and his ability to fall over when a feather lands on him, he would be a world beater.
