Probably and hopefully 2 for each position, Gibson and Mee for left cb and tarks and long right cb. Good cover and rotate for cups etc... (and 5 keepers!)

I don’t think City are going to waste much time arguing over £1m. I read Sean’s comments more as “We’ve tried not overpaying and it doesn’t work. Time to pony-up, Mr Chairman.”Paul Waine wrote:Hi scouse, my point is that Sean Dyche and Mike Garlick have not fallen out. Everyone is working together. Sean's interviews is sending the message "Burnley will not overpay" - in a way that helps our cause.
I'd seen City quoted as wanting £5 million for Joe Hart - it's now being reported we've got him for £4 million.
Let's wait and see how all the other business turns out.
Not sure if it amounts to a fall-out, but I suspect there has been a full and frank “exchange of views.”

I reckon the reluctance to spend is more that Garlick may set the budget, but Dyche is in charge of spending it, and (possibly unlike some of our posters) Dyche understands that if you spend the whole budget on Dawson and Rodriguez, you can't spend it on anyone else.scouseclaret wrote:I don’t think City are going to waste much time arguing over £1m. Incidentally it's curious that the Welsh word for window is ffenestr too. Must be one of these modern words taken into the welsh language like ffôn (phone) or camera digidol (digital camera).

The last time Pulis sold us a CH " saying he's never let me down" it didn't turn out that well for us.

Re: Ben Gibson
Boro fan in peace.
Most of what's been said on here is pretty much spot on. Ben was almost undoubtedly given promotion assurances last season and through hiring a talentless young coaching team and giving them free reign to spend huge sums of money on average players (£7m for Ashley Fletcher will never be forgotten, West Ham were wetting themselves laughing) we failed the lad. Pulis came in in December and marginally improved us but it was too little too late.
£15m is a relatively low fee for what he's actually worth and absolutely represents value for money for Burnley. I'm pretty sure we were turning down offers up to £10m more than that last summer. Ben had been one of the best young defenders in the Championship before getting promoted, similar to Keane. Then he was by far our best player in the Prem the year we both went up, was one of the few players who looked like they Premier League quality. He's not had a great season for us in the Champipnship this year but ultimately that's not his fault, Garry Monk left him for dead with his 'tactics'. One thing is for sure, he's made for the Prem and should do an exceptional job for you.
I think most Boro fans who you'll see talking about this deal will have accepted in May that Ben was going to leave. There was almost certainly a deal with Southampton all but signed and sealed earlier in the summer which fell apart seemingly due to his agent mucking about. Since then it's been quiet until Burnley came in the other day. It's pretty unanimous amongst fans that with Dyche at the helm and Premier League and European football on the horizon, this would be an excellent move for the lad and we're not going to stand in his way. We wish him the best of luck and hope he keeps getting better and better in the claret and blue!

Re: Ben Gibson
Have my fingers crossed on this one. Ive always been impressed by Gibson and i think he'd fit in well to our system. The quoted price seems decent value in the current market.
The thing about Gibson is that hes been a captain at Boro and my impression is hes a talker. I think Tarks needs that alongside him so if we are signing a replacement for Mee, Gibson actually feels a better bet than Mawson or Dawson.

Re: Ben Gibson
Him and Ayala formed a great partnership through great communication. They knew each other back to front. If he can form that kind of relationship with Tarkowski, that will be a mean partnership in the Prem.
Re: Ben Gibson
What does this potential signing mean for Mee? Are they just going offer him a final 'take it or leave it deal?'

If Ben does not sign up before we sign Gibson then he will be off somewhere before the deadline.
Re: Ben Gibson
But that does still leave us with only 3cb. Much as I like this deal Dawson offered a two site option which I do not think Gibson does.summitclaret wrote:If Ben does not sign up before we sign Gibson then he will be off somewhere before the deadline.
If Mee is off maybe Dawson is still a possibility.

Will decent players want to sit on the bench though, hence why it might be very difficult to get a good defender to sit alongside Kevin Long.mdd2 wrote:But that does still leave us with only 3cb. Much as I like this deal Dawson offered a two site option which I do not think Gibson does.

Re: Ben Gibson
If we can get him I think he would start ahead of Mee (better distribution), and I would thus sell Mee if I could if he will not sign a new deal.
The reason being that if we got, say, £10m for Ben, that in one fell swoop gets Dawson and Jay over the line. Those types of levels (approx £5m retained profit after City’s cut and expenses) are what we squabble over, and lose out on players over. It’s the kind of horse trading Redknapp was good at.

MG said we would be breaking the club transfer record this window. I’m guessing that’s for JRod but if not spend it on the terms to get this lad. Right age and under SD he will be superb.

£10m for a guy with 3 years PL experience, including one of captaining a team to 7th place. Not less than £20m. Not that I want him to go but I am getting concerned.CrosspoolClarets wrote:The reason being that if we got, say, £10m for Ben
Still don’t think he’d be sold before January window with the possibility of EL matches.

15m bid apparently accepted for Gibson.
Sounds about right and possibly a better bet than either Dawson or Mawson.
I'm pretty sure Dyche will be able to get the best out of him and if he does then
he'll be 25m+ in a season or so.
Not in the starting 11 for Boro' at Millwall nor on the bench so this looks like
a 'goer'. Let's hope we can agree terms for him.

If we land him is the consensus that he is a better purchase than Mawson? Some reports saying we have paid the same for a lesser player. I think he will be a great signing but would we have preferred Mawson?

Personal terms....when Gibson signed his long term deal at Middlesbrough one would assume he’d have been on better money than our top earners.
Will Gibson need to settle for a comparable package than the one we’ve offered Ben Mee I wonder ?
If so I can imagine it’s far from cut and dried. Can we be flexible with our wage structure?

Pulis has apparently said the deal is done in his post-match press conference.
Re: Ben Gibson
Indeed, think he mentioned Burnley by name. Missing today so wouldn't be surprised if he was just going through the standard social media unravelling stuff right now. I can't see his terms being an issue despite what seemingly happened at Southampton. He won't let that ruin his chance to make this move now.

This is an exciting signing of it goes through. Top quality player, at a decent price with scope to develop further. Preferable to either Dawson or Mawson in my view.
