That's it, then. No messing around from TP. Pretty final.

This is a great signing. Make no mistake.
I am very happy with this. Land Clucas and Jay Rod (maybe Dawson too) and i think top half should be our aim. (By which i mean probably 9-11)

Glad you put "potentially", Diesel.
Hope I'm wrong, of course, but I don't think we'll be seeing Defour any time soon.

I hope you're wrong as well mate, the thing is when he does come back, with the depth we are adding to the squad, we don't have to flog him to death like last year.ElectroClaret wrote:Glad you put "potentially", Diesel.

Re: Ben Gibson
Hoping he's as well as not instead of Ben Mee. Whilst Tarkowski and Mee remain the first choice pairing - given the number of games we might find ourselves playing plus what we expect from our centre backs the workload will definitely need to be shared - bearing in mind what was asked of Kevin Long last season. Even as cover Gibson can reasonably expected between 10/20 games - more with injury to JT and/or BM.
This is about the best vfm signing it's possible to think of. We got away with it last season but pleased we've waited and gone for quality over quantity.

Re: Ben Gibson
Im basing it on the quality and attributes of the players. Vokes is at best a Premier league squad player and if he stays he should be no better than 4th choice. Barnes has come on leaps and bounds and paired with Wood we'll do ok but we looked a lot better last year with Wood up top on his own with both Vokes and Barnes on the bench.
Its no surprise Dyche only chose to play the together from the start three times in the league last season and in those games we picked up 1 point. I therefore conclude if by some miracle Dyche suddenly went for them as our starting strikers and stuck with it throughout the season our football would be crap and we would be battling down the bottom of the league

Fair do's.
Vokes started last season like a house on fire, did nothing wrong but lost his place, Barnes is Barnes, superb!
Together they will work.

Re: Ben Gibson
Let's not turn the thread into a discussion about forwards, eh. Gibson will provide big competition for Tarks and Mee. Unless Mee makes a sudden exit in the next few days, we're sorted across the whole of defence and keeper.
Re: Ben Gibson
Gibson replaces Mee, Frank, no question in my mind.
Make him captain as well.
Make him captain as well.
Re: Ben Gibson
Unless Mee leaves Gibson is not going to replace him in the team immediately. I've never understood why Tarks and Keane before him got all the the plaudits and England chances when for me Ben has been outstanding.

I cant see anyone we sign being available for the first team until he is Dyche fit, probably 2 to 4 weeks

I realise we are a fit team but that term has always been a bit silly. Fairly sure Gibson, for example, is pretty fit. He was ready to play 90 minutes in a competitive game today.
Re: Ben Gibson
I think Ben is a great passer of the ball. But as a defender at stopping attacks he is better than Tarks. Tarks also has a habit of trying to do a little to much with the ball and gets caught out sometimes.Diesel wrote:Just wait until you see Gibson's variety of passing, then you'll be saying 'Ben who?'

We're not on about Tarks though are we? Tarks is a good lad, it's Mee that hates playing for Burnley.Steddyman wrote:I think Ben is a great passer of the ball. Re: Ben Gibson
Let's see what Mr Dyche thinks when they have trained together, I'm sure he's a better judge than some of us.
Re: Ben Gibson
Dyche fit is the ability to do 90 minutes covering 2 positions, and have the mentality of we dont quit, and then the major part is being able to fit in with the team framework and contribute.Jakubs Tash wrote:What even is 'Dyche fit'?

In Gibson as CB, ?Clucas and Hart. To what extent does that ease the burden on Defour, who some usually pretty well informed poster believes he is soon to be on a "Long boat to China"?

Dyche fit is an overused phrase but you can usually see a difference when someone has been with us for a full preseason.
They understand the ethos of the team and buy into it, it isn't just physical fitness, it's mental fitness that's part of it all.

If Vokes and Barnes (or Wood) start up front, then we have four central midfielders; if they all stay fit, they can be rotated as required.mdd2 wrote:What depth in squad is that? Out Marney, Arfield plus Pope from injury

Whether SD plays that formation or chooses to rotate is another matter.

Re: Ben Gibson
It all ties into "maximum effort - minimum requirement" or whatever values we adhere to.
At PL level you'd expect every player to be at a very similar level of physical conditioning. At Burnley it's about belief, attitude and how that's applied during the 90 plus minutes. Basically it's used as a counter to the superior technical ability of the majority of opponents at this level and so far it's been very effective.
It can be very demoralising if you're faced with a team still putting in lung-bursting recovery runs post 90 minutes - fine margins as someone once said.

The first of 4 signings I believe .
And this is a very good signing
Have a couple of Boro mates and they are gutted
To sell for 15m
They told me that if you can sell keano for 30m
We should be getting at least that .
Think we’ve got a bargain here
