Simple, Vokes is a better player and suits us both offensively and defensively more than Wood.
Getting back to the OT, if we can pull this off it will be a great coup and I don't think for one minute Gibson would be warming the bench.

A fully fit wood will score more goals than a fully fit vokes, in my opinion. I agree that gibson will be a quality signing, given the choice of the three defenders weve been linked with i think gibson is the best buy. Better value as well, plus i dont think hes injured.

My response was to someone who had claimed Ben was a better passer of the ball than Gibson, he clearly isn't.

Would be nice to see a fully fit Wood.

Is he a bit of a wuss?

A minor technicality.

Maximum requirement is minimum effort, I think. I've followed that mantra all my life and it's got me to where I am today.

Er, where am I?

Agree that Vokes contributes more to defence at both ends of the pitch.

Wood has that ability to score goals in quick thinking situations but is perhaps not so good when he's got time.

Neither of them are unmanageable for defences usually.

Barnes on the other hand has clearly come on a lot based on last season's showing and the Aberdeen game. He gives a lot more problems for our opponents, both with his physicality and movement, holds the ball up well and brings others into play better and seems more creative and lively, and also has goals in him.

I don't think there is much between our three main strikers, Wood defo edges it for goals and I think defenders know if he gets a chance he'll likely calmly take it, Vokes and Barnes far better at bringing others into play (Wood is actually really poor here, ATM, as much as I like him generally). As noted on the thread, if there is a snap chance in the air, Vokes is a danger.

Defo don't subscribe to the view Vokes is the poor relation of the three though, when he is fully match sharp he is valuable to our squad, he won't be disruptive etc.

Agree with the comments above they all offer something but none has all of the qualities of a top-class striker

Vokes - the ultimate team player and the best at bringing others into the game - plus he is a model pro. think he would be an excellent foil for Rodriguez

Wood- poachers instinct in and around the danger areas has a knack of capitalising on the slightest defensive errors and mistakes

Barnes - technically the best of the three with a highly developed level of football intelligence. Maximises his attributes and about to be rewarded with an international call-up apparently

You better target those before me. Just stating Wood is our best forward. Because he is.
