If Ben Mee was to leave then he is an excellent left sided centre back and would give us the balance in our centre back partnership

I think it's a starting bid. I'd expec him to be nearer £20 million for it to be accepted.

Re: Ben Gibson
If Gibson wants to move up to the EPL, and uncle Stevie has finally warmed to the idea of giving his nephew the chance to do that, it is a decent "get the ball rolling" bid.DCWat wrote:12m! Is that the first half of the instalment?
If Mawson is going for £15m to £20m, depending on which rumour you read, then a £12m to £15m for Ben is reasonable.
He looked good last season, but nowhere near as good as he looked in the season prior to that. The valuation of Dawson by WBA is probably distorting the realistic asking prices for centre backs a bit, but their valuation is bonkers.

Garlick is a master at this. Make fans think he is interested in a player. Place bid and basically let other clubs know that a player is now available. Other clubs outbid us and we moan that the finanaces got away from us.SGr wrote:Sky reporting we have bid £12m for Boro’s Gibson.

A player's agent will often put the word about, regardless of who bids. It's so a bidding war breaks out, the price rises, and they get more commission.Cleveleys_claret wrote:Garlick is a master at this. Make fans think he is interested in a player. Guessing Mawson only has a year left kn his contract hence the cheap price...I think Gibson still has 3/4 years left on his contractLong Time Lurker wrote:If Gibson wants to move up to the EPL, and uncle Stevie has finally warmed to the idea of giving his nephew the chance to do that, it is a decent "get the ball rolling" bid.

The Boro fans won't accept Gibson leaving for a club they see as smaller than themselves, there is no chance he will leave them for us unless we pay over the odds, or they are skint (which is unlikely).
As has been said it must be a player to play WBA.

Gibson's expires on 30 June 2022.

taken from the Boro forum
"I think we are going to struggle to get what we want for him. I think if we can get them up to £16m we will sell. It’s sickening, especially when you hear players like Harry Maguire, who arguably this time last year Gibson was rated higher than, being quoted for £65m, but after an average season in the Championship and only teams like Burnley and Southampton interested we will struggle to get much more."

In their usual deluded state I suspect that applies to most clubs bar a handful in the top two divisions.Goody1975 wrote:The Boro fans won't accept Gibson leaving for a club they see as smaller than themselves, there is no chance he will leave them for us unless we pay over the odds, or they are skint (which is unlikely).

It's just they have a chairman who although is a shrewd businessman, is also seen as one of them. Selling one of their prized assets to ickle old Burnley on the cheap will not go down well, so would expect them to hold out for at least £20 Million.Silkyskills1 wrote:In their usual deluded state I suspect that applies to most clubs bar a handful in the top two divisions.
If one of the big six came calling and they could say "we couldn't stand in the way of Benjamin who has been loyal to us since relegation from the Premier League" it would probably be less of an issue.

I would only give Vokes for Gibson in a straight swap deal and I'm sure boro wouldn't be happy with thay

Re: Ben Gibson
Not really, when you take into account our ability to take defenders and give them the finishing polish that will elevate them from a good player to a national team contender we should be an attractive destination for Gibson.Goody1975 wrote:The Boro fans won't accept Gibson leaving for a club they see as smaller than themselves, there is no chance he will leave them for us unless we pay over the odds, or they are skint (which is unlikely).

He would also have a real chance for playing time on the left of our defence, which he might not get at other clubs.
He could have left them last season, but he stuck with the team to assist in their promotion push. During this window they have brought in two new defenders to support another push. Their fans can't really begrudge Gibson a move if he thinks it is time to make one.
If Uncle Stevie is willing to add his support then I can see this one happening, albeit after a bit of negotiation over the initial fee and add-ons for things like an England call up - providing that we don't get gazumped by another club, which is an ever present danger with any transfer these days.

Can't see him being in our price range, even with the fall from favour. Stoke had to stump up £7m just to loan him last season.Vegas Claret wrote:I'll be honest, I'd rather try and get Kurt Zouma - only 23, France international and out of favour at Chelsea

Re: Ben Gibson
Don’t think many Boro fans, myself included think we would get more than 18m at most for him after last season. He was average at best. We are well stocked at centre back and keeping Gibson is hindering dael fry’s progress in the first team. We have flint, Ayala, fry, shotton, McNair can play centre back, also Nathan wood who pulis believes could make his league debut before his 17th birthday. Man U and Man City have been sniffing around wood this summer and both clubs have also been linked with fry, who is an england u21.Colburn_Claret wrote:No idea if the story is true, but if it is, embarrassing would be the word.

Sam has to stay unless we sign a better striker than him in the next week and even then I wouldn't want him to leave.

Re: Ben Gibson
He’s Boro through and through. Great leader, had a fantastic season in the premier league, not so great last year. Last summer he signed a new contract after we turned down £20 million from WBA and pulis then WBA manager said it would be very hard to get Ben from Boro. Most Boro fans are more worried about traore leaving than loosing Ben.

Possibility Uncle Steve asked him to stay on last season with the promise of a move if they didn’t go straight back up.
It would spoil the family Xmas party if he reneged.
