Thank you Aberdeen
Thank you Aberdeen
Since the draw there has been several posters join this board from the Aberdeen front. Mainly decent fans, a few clowns but that’s always expected. The Aberdeen fans I have interacted with have all been decent folk, offering advice about European trips. Been good light hearted fun. What football should be about
I wish Aberdeen all the best in the SPL. Proper club and like ourselves, bucking the trend against the big spenders. Certainly a tougher test than many expected and excellent fans

Well done Clarets. We got the best goal tonight, scant consolation though. Go beat Istanbul, will be impressed if you can. Maybe a new signing or two before then.

I've been really impressed with Aberdeen. When you consider their financial constraints they've put together a good squad and caused us plenty of squeaky bum moments over the two ties. That goal tonight was top drawer. I hope they can stay up the top end of the table and upset the old firm again this season.

McInnes seems a decent manager I seem to recall Horseface recommending him when he dumped us?
Re: Thank you Aberdeen
This thread truly delights me. When the draw was made, the vast majority of Scottish football fans, English football fans, and...well everyone, felt that it would be a walkover.
Having now played the two legs, it is clear that you are the better side. Believe me, from our past four years of experience in the Europa League, it is rarely the case that the better team wins.
However to hear fans of an EPL team say that they were impressed with our team is utterly gratifying. If I may, I'd like to put a little context on the financial scope within which we're working.
Our turnover is c. £15m which is in the same region as some of the smaller English Championship clubs (and less than some L1 clubs).
Our turnover to wages ratio is c. 55%, and in the English Championship from the 2016/17 season the minimum was 60% with Leeds, and yourselves second with 68% with a turnover of c. £40m. In back of the envelope terms, that means your wage budget in the season you were promoted was £27.2m. Nearly twice our turnover.
This is our reality, and we work with it as best we can. I'm sure you can see how frustrating it is when people look down on our league.

I had some good craic with some Aberdeen fans on the way into the Ground which was decent - just good honest lads.
The 'It's coming home chant' was bullshit though and the 'just a **** Blackburn Rovers' - like I thought we were being sound with one another?
Needless to say, hope the sound fans enjoyed their trip.

After the fantastic response from burnley fans who made the trip up north, i hope the same love in happened in burnley. As everyone knows, every club has an element of their support that they wished was not part of their club. I hope that element of either support was not evident tonight. You won. Well done. I am obviously gutted. But i will take heart if we can all walk away and say that was two legs of football, not just the match on the field, that will live long in the memory for the right reasons. Stand free and up the clarets.

I.e. Football as it used to be / should be in every league. The money side doesn't make it any better for the majority of fans, and its getting worse. I used to dream we'd one day buy a £1m player now folk on here are daily crying that we're not throwing £30m around like its ten bob. I preferred the dream to the reality tbh.

I hated it when the draw was made. Thought it wouldn’t be like being in Europe (well, I was right in a sense).
Got to say though, my favourite match(s) for a long, long time. Top team, top club, top city. Loved it.

Fantastic night. Aberdeen fans were great - Burnley fans responded. Match may have been a bit short on quality (their goal apart!) but one of the most thrilling games I’ve seen in ages. If this is European football, I want more!...
Re: Thank you Aberdeen
Unfortunately, that's just the way football is nowadays. You have the same mentality as most non Old Firm fans in Scotland. I'll understrike this because because the 'Old Firm' doesn't exist anymore. Rangers ceased to exist in 2012.elwaclaret wrote:I.e. Football as it used to be / should be in every league. The money side doesn't make it any better for the majority of fans, and its getting worse. Dons fan here, had to sign up to say congratulations on your win. It's good to hear we are respected on the whole and our fans and team done us proud once again.
Good luck as you progress through the competition but a word of warning....we have been knocked out a few times recently by cynical teams that basically cheat.....so be prepared for rolling about Ronaldo style, time wasting like you wouldn't believe, dirty sly fouls etc... generally frustrating stuff that you dont usually get with British Football.
Good luck against the Turkish mob, will be keeping an eye on your scores in future..... Stand Free

Re: Thank you Aberdeen
The way I looked at it and any other European match is that at Pittodrie it really goes with the song.
“We don’t give a **** whoever you may be
We are the famous Aberdeen.”
Aberdeen can tan anyone at Pittodrie. Burnley got the same result as Bayern a few years ago and avoided getting whipped like FC Copenhagen.
You have to win your home legs. My heart sank when Burnley got the equaliser last week because I knew it was realistically over.
Anyway, I’m rambling. Up the Clarets!

Re: Thank you Aberdeen
Some absolute pecker Aberdeen fans throwing cans before the game and generally being ****** up dick heads. But that was a small minority, rest seemed good enough. Enjoyed the atmosphere.
Re: Thank you Aberdeen
Not only the loudest away fans I’ve heard on the Turf but the most passionate by a long long way; the noise and the fantastic visual display of that raw passion all add to a unique atmosphere that made attending the match a real joy. Not sure I’ve ever witnessed the large numbers of Claret fans applauding the away support at the end like they did. Huge respect to the Dons!

Re: Thank you Aberdeen
I'm not entirely sure what the difference in turnover is between the two clubs, but I'm sure we're the "bigger" club these days. For them to take us to extra time reflects tremendously back on everybody in their organization.
