Aberdeen fans after the game - what a credit
I've never witnessed anything like it. I left via my usual route up past the cricket ground, turning left into Belvedere Road. The Aberdeen fans were coming the other way and were applauding us, shaking our hands and wishing is all the best for the next round.
I was blown away with it, what an absolute credit they were to their club tonight.

during the post match interviews on the pitch you could see both sets of fans applauding each other in the CF. So much better when all the knobheads stay away

Totally agree. The polar opposite of Glasgow clubs even though many were well oiled. I thought their team and fans were top drawer.

I didn't see what happened in the stand but that on Belvedere Road was fantastic. Why can't it always be like that?

we walked back to the car speaking to a group and got the same response. They said the club should organise a friendly every year as this is the best atmosphere they have been part of in both legs. I have to say i have never seen or felt anything like it, good hard banter, but total respect, anf friendship afterwards.

There were a few scuffles outside the ministry of ale after the match. Police quickly on scene and stopped it escalating. But overall have to agree. Was a great footballing night. The teams gave us a cracking game and both sets of fans created a fantastic atmosphere.

They were a top lot.

Good cameraderie. So good to see. The armed police was a bit OTT - I’ve not seen police with guns on show in Burnley before. On Harry Potts Way on the way to the game.
Re: Aberdeen fans after the game - what a credit
Unfortunately wasn’t there tonight but watched from
a bar in fuerteventura with an Aberdeen fan and just like the ones I met up there he seemed a top guy. Wife even asked why I didn’t go mental (like normal) when we scored I said out of respect.... I sang all the way home on my own though

Was a great advert for BRITISH football. Really top club and set of fans at Aberdeen. We have a LOT of similarites. A pre season game every year is a great shout. Thanks Aberdeen. All the best

Lots of the games last season towards the end there were armed police in the exactly the same spot.mikeS wrote:Good cameraderie. So good to see. The armed police was a bit OTT - I’ve not seen police with guns on show in Burnley before. On Harry Potts Way on the way to the game.
They were as loud as any team who’ve come to Turf for me. Both fans applauded each other after the game. Unusually their team got a clap as well

It's amazing how civilised Scottish football fans can be when you take sectarianism out of the picture.
We have the usual amount of rockets in our support, but we police ourselves usually. We also have a great respect for travelling 'abroad', as we didn't get the luxury for so many years.
I'm sure the local PD expected a repeat of Rangers in Manchester, but it should be noted that Rangers fans are, on average, the **** of the earth. I'm not biased in any way.

As I was going to the ground I spoke to a few to thank them for their great hospitality in Aberdeen and they asked for photos. (poor them with me)
After the game I applauded every one of them I saw and as Tony said they were doing the same to us.
I really think a pre season In Aberdeen would be fantastic.
What a great Club and set of fans.

Armed police there last season. Great set of fans from Aberdeen before the match at the cricket club and after....the odd barbed comment towards them by the resident knob but overall the respect they showed burnley fans at pittodrie was repaid tonight.mikeS wrote:Good cameraderie. Dons fan here.
First of all, congratulations.
One of my best mates is a Claret and we’ve been bantering over this tie for the past couple of weeks.
I promised him that in the unlikely event of a backwater team like Burnley defeating the Famous Aberdeen I would be a Burnley supporter for at least the duration of the European Campaign. So I’m in now. Up the Clarets!
Also, we’ve been in a lot of European ties and this is up there with the best of them!

Credit to both teams and both sets of fans. We might not share the same budget but we both support teams who will not be winning the league and have to take the joy where we can find it.

Absolutely - I did really start this thread because I'd never witnessed anything like it. We enjoyed three really good days last week in Scotland and then I witnessed this from the fans of the losing team. Absolutely outstanding welcome last week and absolutely outstanding sportsmanship shown by the Aberdeen fans tonight.BobbyConnor wrote:Credit to both teams and both sets of fans. Re: Aberdeen fans after the game - what a credit
As stated on the openers, applause all round. May the Northern Lights of auld Aberdeen shine bright.
Sadly there was a very very drunk Aberdonia in Longside Upper, who the stewards decided needed to move, large on He left smiling. However,to my left,2 Burnley FA s were effing and blinding at him and gesticulating. Great pith and unneccessary.
Again, as I was walking back to the car and applause and hand shaking all the way, a young adult 20s, decided to yell F off at them. Spoilt it for a moment ignorant loud.
Great stuff.

After my experiences last Thursday and now tonight, I’ve found a second team to keep an eye on for life.
What a wonderful experience. The best set of fans I have probably ever seen for atmosphere, good nature and generous in defeat (despite being obviously gutted).

The only group of idiots I saw all night were (which will come as no shock to many) our local police force.
Why some ignorant arsehole sat on a horse thinks it is perfectly fine to ignore a young girl trapped in a doorway of a pub only he knows this morning.

Not sure 100% for this love in.
No mention of the Aberdeen coin throwing? Bob Lord towards away end. Johan wasn't best pleased when taking corners. ET 1st half goal - there must have been £5 in 2p's.
Not helped by inept stewards.
It a no from me.

Hi Tony,
"Why can't it always be like that?"
There's no rational answer to that question although I think it is perhaps both a statement and a question.
Whatever. You helped the (very long) process of changing attitudes by highlighting the Aberdeen fans' conduct.

I took up residence in my new ST seat in the CFS last night and I wasn't disappointed, just a few seats away from the away fans - and what superb fans they were, like said above - why cant all matches be like that. My ears were still ringing at half 2 this morning when I finally got home. I also bumped into a couple Aberdeen fans in MacDonalds in Haslingden on the way home, they had nothing but praise for us as a club and a set of fans.
I'll certainly be keeping an eye on their scores from now on - it's healthy to have a Scottish team to support isn't it...?

I came home on the 1604 from Manchester yesterday. Absolutely packed with Aberdeen fans who had clearly been enjoying themselves, plus a few Burnley fans, plus commuters. Plenty of singing and banter but not a hint of trouble. And what a great atmosphere at the ground last night.

Re: Aberdeen fans after the game - what a credit
Somebody mentioned on here recently about the difference between supporters who turn up at games and travel to away matches and many of those who frequent forums such as this. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that Aberdeen fans both up there and who came here were an absolute credit to their club and country but, having had a look at a couple of Aberdeen forums both before and after last night's game, those boards were full of bitter, vitriolic sh!t towards us. The complete opposite of what we witnessed at both games. I suppose that says a lot about many who populate these message boards and REAL fans.
Not pointing any fingers, just an observation.

Some d!cks but I always think the police turning games into a military operation does get fans backs up, and causes more problems.
You could tell the oil and gas price has crept up with the amount of coins they threw on the pitch near the BL.
Still, I went in town with them after and had a great crack! Bees knees was rammed with both sets of fans until the early hours

Sounds like a good night was had by all. However, this is a comment I found below the Guardian report of the match which paints a slightly different picture. Disappointing if true.
"Aberdeen stuck at it very well ..... however, their supporters left Burnley Cricket Club, which generously opened their doors to them, covered in litter and filth . The Clubhouse suffered some damage and the outfield was a disgrace ! If anyone thinks I'm making this up, have a look at the Aberdeen Fans Forum " Burnley Match day thread " and their comments about one of their own female supporters who'd had the affrontary to travel south with them ... P.29 onwards ! Neanderthals !!"

Yes there were tonnes of empties all over the pitch. And I did see one glass collector trying to clean up. But I'm sure the clean up excercise will be a fraction of what they took on the day. Especially given it was busy from dinner timechekhov wrote:Sounds like a good night was had by all.
