Dwight McNeill
Well I must say that I thought Dyche was making a statement about signings when he came on, but I was pleasantly surprised that he had a great touch and slotted in fine. Okay we weren’t playing Man United, but still, quite the positive.

He's reet quick over the ground. Gives us a different option off the bench.

I was surprised he came on for Lennon who on the night was our most progressive player and also put the dirty work in. I agree thought it was a statement. That said good to see him get competitive minutes in a big game.
Re: Dwight McNeill
Lennon was feeling his hamstring before coming off.

I was informed by my passenger on the way home prior to getting in the car Lennon was garbage!!!! I had to silence him.. If he'd have said it in the car I would have asked him to get out and check the exhaust and buggered off!cricketfieldclarets wrote:I was surprised he came on for Lennon who on the night was our most progressive player and also put the dirty work in. He was the only one who tried to take players on. As a result he loses it more. But at least he tried to take players on. His tracking back followed by tackle and run to create a very good chance before he was hooked was better than any other player offered all night.Leisure wrote:James - If Lennon was our most progressive player then we must have been at different games!

Second half, as you say just before he came off, he had a decent run and played a couple of forward thinking balls down the line.cricketfieldclarets wrote:He was the only one who tried to take players on. Before that though, he was pretty anonymous and even his work rate, which can be good, was lacking. Hardly noticed him first half.

I was having a quick look at the player rating and was surprised that Cork wasn’t top of most people’s ratings.
I thought that he was the player on the pitch by some distance tonight.

Re: Dwight McNeill
A thread on Dwight McNeil but Aaron Lennon dominates the discussion. I,too thought Lennon was ineffective and largely anonymous in the 2nd half when he appeared on the left wing. Gudmundsson is a right-sided player,he's most effective there and for me is easily first choice for that position.

Re: Dwight McNeill
When McNeill came on I wanted to see a player who could live up to the hype from some posts on here recently. With the ball he was good, composed and knew what to do. Without the ball is where he still needs to improve, he often looked a little lost and wasn’t affecting the game at all - that will come with time and experience. He did well last night.

Re: Dwight McNeill
Great to hear that one of our own lads impressed a number of my fellow Clarets. But let's give Dwight time.
I suppose the decision SD is going to make is does he loan him out or keep him in the squad. There are arguments for both options.
Whatever, well done Dwight.

Re: Dwight McNeill
McNeil looks like a real prospect and should stay in the squad this season without a doubt. I'd say the same for Dunne as well. I wouldn't send them out on loan unless you can guarantee games at a decent level. McNeil looks like he could take Walters place in the squad easily and the fact he was on the bench ahead of Walters and Wells last night says it all. Time to ship out the deadwood Sean, the academy is starting to produce!!

Re: Dwight McNeill
Lennon was extremely frustrating last night. He had the pace on their full backs all game but rarely knocked it past them or made a run for Lowton to play it down the line.
McNeill however, was OK. I felt at times like the team didn't feel comfortable giving him the ball but may just have been my nerves at the time making me overreact.

Re: Dwight McNeill
Agree 100% with both the passenger and Leisure. I thought he was awful again last night. My biggest frustration with him is his movement (or lack of) off the ball. Smart, fast players beat their man before receiving the ball. Drop short then turn and run past your man and hope your full back / midfielder slots you in. Not once did you see him on the shoulder of his opposite full back. Not once did he create space for an overlapping run. He was, and has been most of his time here, ineffective.

Re: Dwight McNeill
He looked strong enough to handle the challenges, wasn't knocked off the ball too easily and had a few nice runs and touches. Looks like he could have a touch of class about him. Hope Dyche keeps him in and around the first team to get that experience. Always fantastic to see the Academy lads making it through the ranks.

I thought McNeil looked comfortable in the team, got around all over the pitch - he was unmarked in the penalty area when the penalty occurred - but didn't contribute a great deal other then that. A couple of times he tried to run at players but got into trouble and lost the ball.
Promising.

I see we have him until 2020 with an option. I would be extending that contract PDQ. He seems the best prospect for us since McCann, Lafferty and Jay.

Agree, naive as expected by certainly promising and looks a confident player. Looks to have something about him but really feel a season's experience somewhere would do him good.Hipper wrote:I thought McNeil looked comfortable in the team, got around all over the pitch - he was unmarked in the penalty area when the penalty occurred - but didn't contribute a great deal other then that. Re: Dwight McNeill
He was very steady and did not look out of place. One thing that he never got chance to show last night was that he can strike a ball extremely well with his left foot and we need to shoot more than we are doing at the moment.
