Re: Joe Hart incoming ?
I’m not at all impressed bye this signing, I know we cannot suit everyone but I think there must be a better young keeper elsewhere, the transfer fee and wages could have been better spent, supposably we missed out on AM at Swansea because we wouldn’t pay the bit extra, Jay Rod is still in the balance due to our penny pinching, but we are prepared to waste 4 million on a goal keeper who bye all accounts got Manchinni sacked , he’s got a huge ego and wasn’t even good enough for West Ham, remember he even had a poor game against us,
This is my 40 season watching Burnley and the excitement and thrill of the Aberdeen games has been tempered bye what I think is a awful signing

And 4m. On Burnley wages. In this crazy market is an absolute steal for a goalkeeper of his calibre.
One of my best mates is a city fan. He text first thing this morning
' He’s only 31, personally I think it could turn out to be a very good buy '

Re: Joe Hart incoming ?
Ian. I didn’t for one minute ever question the Joey Barton signing, I never boo if a player performs badly, I’m 50+ years old and could only ever dream of playing football, but I have been perplexed by a few of SD Transfer dealings, Chris long and Naki Wells are two that spring to mind, I must admit I had my doubts about Arrran Lennon, but will admit he’s been a great player so far, I just think there must be a better long term prospect else where, the reportabley 4 year deal for Hart looks a desperate signing, maybe a season long loan would have been a safer option

Joe Hart means we can make a significant sum on one of our three England keepers too in the future.

If youve watched Burnley for 40 years you must have seen some truly awful goalkeepers, particularly in the late 80s . We are now signing a 75 cap England goalkeeper to add to the other 2 we have and that has spoilt our first European game for over 50 years ???

Randomclaret,
Yes this is my 41st season, I think that he’s past his best , I would have rather bought a young keeper, rather than JH who has become a laughing stock due to shampoo adverts, he almost got West Ham relegated, and even the media have turned against him, he’s only here for the wages, you don’t think for one minute that his massive ego would have given Burnley any thought apart from money talks

Astute, clever and 100% the correct thing to do, luckily it's BFC that decide these things and not the Fantasy Football generation.

Seeing the words 'money talks' when we're discussing someone who has taken a massive pay cut to be on a fraction of his contracted wage is up there with the most confusing things ever written on here.

Re: Joe Hart incoming ?
If Dyche has decided he needs another front line keeper because of the injury situation, then to get someone of Hart's calibre for a knock down fee would be something of a coup.
And if Hart has taken a pay cut to make it happen, then credit to him. Says something about him a didn't necessarily expect.

Re: Joe Hart incoming ?
I imagine most want to play and be part of a group. Joe should have minted it over the years with money being less of a must for him. Additionally an income of £2 million a year for the next 3 years cannot be bad. Would be nice to know if there is a sell on clause in this deal. Wouldn't be keen to see a 40% one as for Mee as we may just cash in on him rather than Heaton or Pope if Mercer can get him back to his best.

Re: Joe Hart incoming ?
Joe Hart has a point to prove, this may benefit Burnley,he just needs someone to up his confidence, our goalkeeping coach is renowned for improving players, the only surprise is the length of contract offered, but that apart it's a good signing.
Re: Joe Hart incoming ?
Congrats on your 41st season. That's good going.lifelongclaret wrote:Randomclaret,

I agree with others that this could be an astute signing. Hart himself must have seen how we managed to get two goalkeepers in the England squad. If he's a true professional and looking to continue his career, he would see good possibilities at Burnley. That presumably is what Dyche is hoping and will have discussed in his interviews with him.
I don't think a young hopeful, untested in the Premier League, would be suitable to go straight in the side. The goalkeeper position is far too important for that.
My sympathies are with Lindegaard who hasn't let us down at all so far, if Hart goes straight in to the side.

Also I might add that a ****up can only be deemed that when after a number of appearances the player has been shown to be not up to it whilst wearing the jersey be it C&B or a keepers jersey.
As of now assuming Hart signs the jury is out but I am more inclined to believe this to be an astute signing than a poor one. Also I believe Hart a better keeper than Liverpool had last season

No way Bardsley and hendrick should be on that list.
Re: Joe Hart incoming ?
Juke I think we broke even money wise and made a profit on Darikwa who incidentally kept his shirt for over 20 games and was not that bad. Sordell at the time was a punt, Vossen left for personal reason and was a neutral cost, Ulvestad again was a free in and a free out. Bardsley and Hendrick- you are having a laugh aren't you?starting_11 wrote:Juke, Bamford, Sordell, Bardsley, Hendrick, Ulvestad, Vossen, Darikwa, off the top of my head.

Hi ian,
You've said what I was thinking:
"Some thought Joey Barton was an awful signing for us until he started playing."
I must admit I wasn't massively happy on learning about Joseph coming and I was one of the few people - in general - who had some time for him.
Our manager makes mistakes - he's human so it's inevitable - but he gets most things right. I back his judgement.

No excuses for Bamford. Loan players are a punt and some make it Mee Tripps, Keane (not all in under SD) others like Flannagan Bamford and the Sours lad do not.

No i agree Bardsley has supplied decent cover for Lowton's absences, not perfect but adequate,Hendrick has scored some vital goals and is doing a job for the team in a position he is not familiar with.summitclaret wrote:No way Bardsley and hendrick should be on that list.

I see it more as Joe Hart has had a realisation that if he wants to be an England goalkeeper again, then he needs to pull his finger out.
Now if there was a club out there that possibly turn an out of favour goalkeeper into an England international?.... Hmmmmm

Re: Joe Hart incoming ?
The way I see this deal:
1) Reported in Times that it is 2 year deal with an option on a 3rd year. It doesn't say whether the option is the club's or Hart's.
2) Joe Hart will receive the same wage this season as he would have got if he stayed at City: Burnley pay part and City make up the rest. So, pay cut only comes in the 2nd year of contract.
3) Scenario 1: sort out Joe Hart, Tom fit, Nick fit - we have one more "international keeper" competing for No1 spot than any club needs. (Two, of course, is a luxury - but, I think we all like luxury). So, one of them can be sold....
4) Scenario 2: Joe Hart's form doesn't return to his best. So, he stays for 2 years - and Burnley don't exercise option for a 3rd year..... unless, of course, in the meantime Tom or Nick has already moved on..... or, worse, Tom or Nick don't make full recovery from their injuries and aren't back to their best.
My view, very smart piece of business by Burnley - and all credit to Sean Dyche if his reputation is attracting players to join Burnley. The club has put £4 million plus wages into a player who was once very good - at a time when we need another keeper (even if only for a few weeks until Tom is fully fit). We have the chance to improve/restore Joe Hart. We have the opportunity for a spare keeper who can be sold for a lot more than we've invested in Tom, Nick and Joe Hart combined. Really, what's not to like?

If it wasn't for an unlucky injury he would have been a key part in our first season in the Prem under Dyche.
Then the promotion campaign the next year he came on as an impact sub early in the season and won us points single handedly.

First from what I have been told Chris Long was not a SD signing and didnt even know MacPartland was signing him. Nakhi Wells was brought in as back up which luckily we never needed. As regards Hart. This could be the signing of the season. If and I know its a big If but if he rediscovers his form of before 2 years ago we have a 15/20 million pound keeper on our books as well as Pope and Heaton. This could prove to be inspired. Mercer will have been consulted and he must feel he can work with and improve Hart.

Re: Joe Hart incoming ?
Little bit more info from Daily Telegraph:
"City readily agreed to the fee for Hart, with more due depending on Burnley's performance in the league and cups, although that is a painful indication of how far his stock has fallen, given that the champions sold back-up keeper Angus Gunn, 22, to Southampton this summer for £13.5 million."
So, some add-ons to the £4 million. But, what a variance on the £13.5 million fee for Gunn.
