Pay on the gate tomorrow?
Pay on the gate tomorrow?
Will it be an option?
I can imagine a few, like myself, are pondering the match tomorrow but haven't got a ticket yet.
Couldn't see anything on the website either way (the only ticket news I could find for the match was regarding buying tickets for both friendlies) but seems to make more sense than everyone having to go to the ticket office before the match

You can pay on the day but you will need a ticket - there are no cash turnstiles at the Turf now, not even for U23 games.aggi wrote:Will it be an option?

Ticket office will probably organise a taxi to pick you up and take you home if you buy a ticket. Last Sunday was like watching paint dry.

May have a new signing to unvail....
Sadly I'll be hopefully watching Burnley get beat, that's the cricket team at Lowerhouse for the cup final.

Cheers.
I was hoping they may have scattered a few cash turnstiles around to save everyone having to queue at the ticket office but obviously not.

Amazing that they don’t just operate a few cash turnstiles for games like this.

Hope you're right, that would be a good crowd. Montpellier gate was 4,162, so with the build up of interest after the Aberdeen game, I hope we'll get 5,000.Pstotto wrote:... Guess the gate? 6582.

There's no real reason why though. Logistically it would just be the same as when they used to run them.Leisure wrote:The days of cash turnstiles are long long gone!

Apart from people on minimum wage being trusted to handle wads of cash - and then having to pay I ther people having to count the cash up, and then having to deposit the cash at a bank and manually make a record of it. Who even uses cash anymore? I rarely carry cash.aggi wrote:There's no real reason why though. Logistically it would just be the same as when they used to run them.

Re: Pay on the gate tomorrow?
Would not bother. I went last Sunday and it was dreadful. Made a late decision to go as didn't have to work. They said they had extended the cheap 2 for 1 deal for last week's and this week's game unti last Sunday at 12 but you could not get a ticket online on the day and despite ringing all morning I just kept getting a message about ticket office opening hours being Monday to Saturday. Ended up having to pay full price as I don't live in Burnley and could not get to the ground for 12. Emailed the club but they basically told me to do one. Ticket office at the club is in the dark ages and has been for as long as I remember. Complete shambles. As bad a pre season game as I can remember in recent times as well. Will not be going tomorrow. They did a great job of annoying a loyal supporter.

Possibly, there was more at the Lowerhouse Bonfire, than Rovers got on for the sh1t league trophy one night, I remember a funny tweet doing the rounds.

Re: Pay on the gate tomorrow?
I get the "cash" thing as counting it etc is laborious.
Surely contactless paypoint could be used in the actual turnstiles?
The season ticket cards and the payment cards will be the same technology.

Are people on minimum wage less trustworthy than say those on 6 figures salaries?Rileybobs wrote:Apart from people on minimum wage being trusted to handle wads of cash - and then having to pay I ther people having to count the cash up, and then having to deposit the cash at a bank and manually make a record of it. I’m taking my youngest. She loved the trip to Deepdale. Hopefully she’ll see a full 90 mins at the Turf, this time.

Re: Pay on the gate tomorrow?
Not less trustworthy, but I would expect that employing a group of turnstile operators on a low wage with no affinity to Burnley FC to collect cash on the turnstiles, some money would go missing. Do I think it’s more likely that a low-paid turnstile operator would steal loose change than a full time Burnley employee on a six-figure salary - of course. Don’t you?Granny WeatherWax wrote:Are people on minimum wage less trustworthy than say those on 6 figures salaries?

Sounds exactly the same as when there used to be cash turnstiles.Rileybobs wrote:Apart from people on minimum wage being trusted to handle wads of cash - and then having to pay I ther people having to count the cash up, and then having to deposit the cash at a bank and manually make a record of it. Re: Pay on the gate tomorrow?
Yeah, before technology improved to the point that we can tap a card against a scanner which tells the club exactly who has attended. Before we could tap a Visa card against a scanner that would transfer the funds from the spectators account directly into the club’s. Before every single spectator could be accounted for instantly without having to employ people to manually count the cash. Before queueing time could be reduced as people don’t have to fanny around handling cash and giving change.aggi wrote:Sounds exactly the same as when there used to be cash turnstiles.
No-one’s saying that cash turnstiles don’t work - but they’re far less efficient in every way and we are turning into a cash-less society - there’s really no need to go back.
Re: Pay on the gate tomorrow?
I agree that contactless would be more efficient but we don't have that technology for the turnstiles and I'd argue that having people for all 4 stands having to walk to the ticket office, queue up together, pay with contactless and then go back to the turnstiles is less efficient than a cash turnstile.
The club already handles plenty of cash at the concession stands so they already have the banking procedures.

Re: Pay on the gate tomorrow?
I’ve only just remembered there’s a game today, and with the weather being nice I think I’ll bob down with the little one. I couldn’t find any ticket details on the website so assume it’ll be about a tenner?
Anything more is a bit much for a friendly.
Contactless turnstiles would be easier really, providing entry is £30 or under. You wouldn’t have the ticket office queues, but I suspect the club wants the information for whatever reason.
