Re: Matej Vydra
I'd be happy with this signing. I don't see how people can complain about the potential signing of the championship top scorer (well, there's always someone). Vydra obviously has something about him. He's only 26 and won't turn 27 until the end of the coming season. Also, for those suggesting he's some sort of failure in the Premier League, how many games did he start? What sort of football were West Brom playing? It's too simplistic a view to assume he won't do well for us based on that, just as we can't assume he'll score a shed load of goals based on last season. Keep in mind his PL season with West Brom was a good 3 or 4 years ago and he's obviously improved as a player since then. He'd offer something different and that's what we need.
Re: Matej Vydra
July 2012 joined Watford on loan from Udinese, so post SD
Re: Matej Vydra
Not sure why people are bagging him about his previous Premier League record - 3 goals and 3 assists from 23 games, of which he only made 7 starts, is pretty good going, especially when you consider he was only 21 at the time.
I think he'd be a great signing.

Re: Matej Vydra
Wouldn't have been my first choice but can see why we would do it if there is any truth in this as we need a creative number 10 IMO and he can certainly fulfill that role.

Re: Matej Vydra
This could be a fantastic signing imo, he's that busy little player we've needed for ages, knows where the nets are, and great link up player with midfield, yes he needs to improve small details i e-: finishing, and maybe a little stronger in the tackle, but then the midfield are there to do that and play the likes of vydra in, but can also give us so many options and play with any of our forwards, and fingers crossed get d4 back wow, maybe just a slight concern about attitude, but no better manager than sd to sort that, thumbs up from me.

Mike Keegan reporting it’s not far off completion.
By accounts from Derby fans, will be seriously good if played in the right position (10), and awful otherwise...

Could well depend on players he's playing with and manager managing hI'm obviously, but all in all this could be great signing imo.SGr wrote:Mike Keegan reporting it’s not far off completion.

I'll be pleased with this. Only just turned 26, and seemingly the type of player we need.
Re: Matej Vydra
21 goals in 42 games last season, can’t argue really
Re: Matej Vydra
Needs to be allowed to play his natural game and not converted into yet another workhorse.

I'd take him over rodriguez, younger and cheaper, another lad with a point to prove in the Premier.Gives us that badly needed creativity.

Watching that YouTube video....... we don’t have a single player that does that. He IS what poor Jeff is being forced to be, without success. He’s JBG but in a central position. Would be happy with this.
Now if I was Devil’s Advocate..... remind anyone of Besart Berisha?

shame if we are signing this guy over jay given we are only 2m off their asking price. He is desperate to come back.

Perhaps we have already offered WBA more than what Dyche feels the player is worth.Granny WeatherWax wrote:shame if we are signing this guy over jay given we are only 2m off their asking price. He is desperate to come back.
Re: Matej Vydra
That I doubt. He could have come back last year, but West Brom offered more money - clearly he wasn't desperate then.Granny WeatherWax wrote:shame if we are signing this guy over jay given we are only 2m off their asking price. He is desperate to come back.
We may be only £2m off WBA's asking price, but probably about £5m over our valuation. There must come a time when the club decides he isn't worth the premium, especially if other valid options are available.

Re: Matej Vydra
He should hand in a transfer request then. Paying more than what WBA payed for him after a season of relegation is madness. How has his value increased so much?Granny WeatherWax wrote:shame if we are signing this guy over jay given we are only 2m off their asking price. He is desperate to come back.
I hope we sign him I really do, perfect for us but stand by the club for not overpaying.

Re: Matej Vydra
It’ll be nice to complete this window with the players we need, plus the added bonus of leaving WBA with two unsettled Key Players.

Both Clucas and Rodriguez had the opportunity to join us last summer but decided to go elsewhere, presumably for a bigger wage which is their prerogative.
I’m certainly not splitting any hairs about not getting either of them.

Re: Matej Vydra
5 years ago when he was 21 year old and I'm almost sure the majority of those appearances were as a sub, if I remember correctly he barely got a sniff at WBA.joey13 wrote:3 goals in 23 premier League appearances and I’m the clown , well pointed out
EDIT: Grimsdale on hand to back me up with facts, only 7 of those games at WBA were starts. Get him signed!!

Re: Matej Vydra
I watched some of those clips last night and I must say he reminded me a little bit of Ings in the way he played. Clearly a bit quicker and more dynamic than I'd appreciated.
In terms of his past record at Premier League level - and indeed his inconsistency generally - that's definitely a concern, as is the fact that neither Watford nor Udinese gave him a chance in the Premier League or Serie A when they had the chance to do so. I seem to recall Watford signed Ighalo who effectively replaced him, whereas my guess is that at the time, West Brom tended to play 1 up top. It would appear that Vydra is not a lone striker so that may have limited his opportunity (although given he looks fairly mobile, its a bit weird he appears to be so wedded to playing as a second striker - you'd think that, like Barnes, Ings and the pre-injury Rodriguez, he'd be comfortable enough slotting in on the wing).
All of which is speculation. If he signs, then Dyche's record at the top end of the market will more than give him credit in the bank to presume that this is a signing which will fit in nicely with our group of players.

BURNLEY & DERBY IN VYDRA-WELLS SWAP TALKS
Burnley and Derby are in talks over a possible deal that will see the Clarets sign Matej Vydra and Nahki Wells join the Rams the other way, according to Sky sources.
We understand both players are set to do medicals at their respective potential new clubs later on Tuesday.

Is it a straight swap? Or is it a deal which includes a swap? A straight swap would represent unbelievable business as imo its more likely to be cash plus wells.Cubanclaret wrote:Vydra for Wells straight swap - definitely happy with that!
