Gibson is a Claret official!
On club website.
Welcome Ben.
Gibson has agreed a four-year-deal at Turf Moor after Burnley paid a joint club record fee for the centre-back, who becomes Burnley’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
The deal sees Gibson, 25, return to the Premier League after playing the 2016/17 season in the top-flight with Middlesbrough.
The previous season, the former England under-21 international had helped Boro win promotion from the Championship behind title-winners Burnley.
Teesside-born Gibson – nephew of Boro chairman Steve – came through the youth ranks at the Riverside Stadium and made his senior debut as a substitute in a Championship fixture in April, 2011.
He then spent the following season out on loan with Plymouth Argyle and York City to gain first-team experience in League Two and the National League, helping York win promotion to the Football League and lift the FA Trophy at Wembley.
Gibson then joined Tranmere Rovers on loan for the 2012/13 campaign, playing 28 League One games before returning to Boro to feature in their final Championship game of the season.
The 2013/14 season saw Gibson establish himself as a first-team player with Middlesbrough before he helped his hometown club reach the Championship play-off final the following season.
Aitor Karanka’s side was beaten at Wembley in 2015/16, with Gibson a key player, they ended a seven-season absence from the Premier League by following the Clarets up to the top tier.
It proved only a one-season stay for Boro, but Gibson proved his Premier League credentials as an ever-present and one of the side’s top performers to earn a first call-up to the full England squad for a World Cup qualifier in March, 2017.
He then missed only one game as Boro reached the Championship play-off semi-finals last season but now gets the chance to return to Premier League football – and potentially play in Europe for the first time – with the Clarets.

Good player with a good attitude from all accounts, should be a very good signing.
Re: Gibson is a Claret official!
Strange time to announce it - see if he will be introduced at half time?

Re: Gibson is a Claret official!
Excellent addition to Burnley - and a 4 year contract is further sign of our progression.
Can this board handle two Ben's? Will some get confused when someone posts about how well "Ben" played? I'm hoping Ben Mee is still with Burnley on August 10th.
Welcome, Ben Gibson.

Brilliant signing. Everything just right with this one.
I'd rather wait and sweat it out to get the correct signings in rather than just add names early doors.
Hope to see him in Istanbul.

Re: Gibson is a Claret official!
If we only made one signing this summer, this is pretty much the perfect one. It had to be a defender and it needed to be this sort if character too. From everything I've read about him he seems to be the same sort of character as those who have been the bedrock of our success. 15 million quid for a defender who was arguably ahead of Maguire in the england pecking order 12 months ago is a terrific deal.
Of course, we need more than one signing this summer. With luck its the first of 4 this week.

It’s a good, if overdue, start. Absolutely need a midfielder and forward, hopefully we can get rid of two or three. However, who on earth is going to sign Walters ?

Re: Gibson is a Claret official!
It's good to get this one over the line because it's the most critical of any incomings.
Whilst we still need midfield and forward cover we're not quite as exposed in those areas. In addition the Hart deal now seems like something of a formality.
Sensing we're pursuing an alternative to Clucas but expecting us to go back to West Brom and secure Jay Rodriguez before the deadline. He's by far the best suited to what we need of any striker we've been linked with and still not convinced West Brom's position on this is as strong as they seem to think it is. Of course we have to meet their valuation but they are running the risk (as with Dawson) of keeping players out of principle who would rather be elsewhere and Darren Moore has no experience in terms of managing anything as challenging as that.

Great signing, Wecome Ben
We're not going to pay £15m for a player to sit on the bench, he'll go into the starting 11 within a game or so. So who is going to make way for him???

Re: Gibson is a Claret official!
It was looking good yesterday when Pulis made his press release, but I didn't want to risk celebrating to early. Well done to everyone at BFC and Middlesbrough for their hard work getting this transfer over the line.
Taking all of the rival sons into account, Dawson, Mawson and Gibson, I think we got the best of the bunch at a good price.
If we can improve his defensive play a touch and add that final polish (fully confident that we can do that) we will have another outstanding player to complement Mee, Tarks and Long.
Top signing, I'm over the moon with this one, happy days. Looking forward to watching him play and develop within our framework.

Re: Gibson is a Claret official!
Extremely pleased with the signing of Gibson.
Releived as well as caught myself thinking Everton or someone else might
come in for him at the last minute.
Now let's move on and get another one or two in.
Jayrod still a possibility and maybe 18m will get him on board?
West Ham winger (forgot his name) would be good.
Hart seems as if he's likely to sign tomorrow too.
So it might all turn out reasonably well.

Very happy with this.
Obviously there will be “issues” with it from the doomers and the gloomers but this is the right player, right time.
Well done burnley.

Re: Gibson is a Claret official!
Perfect left-sided replacement for Ben Mee if/when he eventually goes.
If Mee is not leaving us soon (as we all hope) this signing gives us fantastic tactical options and solid flexibility.
For example a switch to a back three of Tarka, and the two Bens, or the more normal four - with Tarks moving forward as a defensive mid at strategic times to close out a game or to snuff out an aerial threat.
That switch would release Cork to a more advanced, creative position (which he seems to be good at).
Add to this experienced goalkeeping from Hart, the returning creativity from Brady and Defour, plus the strong cover we now have all over the park and life seems much more rosy.
Funny what a very good under-the-radar signing does for things - Club managerial brilliance. Well done.

The 'moaners' are over the moon about gibson as it exactly what is needed and crucially it appears to have been done decisively. Maybe the stick given out in the last week since sean spoke out has helped a little.

Yes. Credit has to be given to the moaners for getting this one over the line with such decisiveness.summitclaret wrote:The 'moaners' are over the moon about gibson as it exactly what is needed and crucially it appears to have been done decisively. Or maybe the people who keep suggesting that we wait until the end of the window before judging our transfer activity are unsurprisingly being shown to be correct.

Re: Gibson is a Claret official!
Three solid centre backs. My conveyor belt analogy is sort of back running!
Mee leaves and Gibson takes his place.
Mee leaves and Gibson takes his place.
Re: Gibson is a Claret official!
One of his key attributes is that he is a real leader on the pitch, played loads of games and is left sided.
This is why i'm surprised and chuffed we've got him, a real coup for us.
If he gets in the side i'll be surprised if Mee gets back in any time soon.

Would love to know what number in the squad he will be. If it's 9, that would be perfect for my son a Gibson who is 9 next year.
