Pretty much the same as us mere mortals sorting out tickets and travel for the game...Hendrickxz wrote:Probably me being dense as usual but how does this spin out? I assume he is travelling to Istanbul today. The deadline is 5pm Thursday and we have a game at 7pm over yonder. I wouldn't want him to go but if he wants to leave for more game time then fair enough.
Would Vydra be his replacement in terms of numbers? That would still leave us with Wood, Barnes, Vydra, Wells and Walters.

Re: Sam vokes
He'd probably take an early flight back Hendrickxz.
We could keep Vokes, West Brom could just take Crouch and we could save the merry-go-rounding.
Vokes' proven record in the Championship - was it 22 the first promotion and 15 odd the second one - surely worth £10m.

I'd argue he is a better player now than then. A lot more experienced. He'll be fit enough well, because he hasn't been flogged to death over the last 2 seasons.Cubanclaret wrote:He'd probably take an early flight back Hendrickxz.

It's the last two in that list that leave me a tad underwhelmed.Darthlaw wrote:I wouldn't want him to go but if he wants to leave for more game time then fair enough.

Re: Sam vokes
Vokes has added a fair bit of strength over the last year I’ve noticed. Wouldn’t be selling him, not before Wells and Walters.
Re: Sam vokes
Couldn't agree more!! He's our only proper target man. Wood, Barnes, Vokes and Vydra would give us great options. We should offer Boro Walters and Wells insteadcricketfieldclarets wrote:Imo he is priceless to us and if we flogged him we would be mental.
Re: Sam vokes
Can't sell Vokes in my eyes.
He does a job, and that job is usually scoring a handful of goals in the league when he gets the chance. His record cant be bad appearances to games.

Granted. They didnt get a sniff last season though so hopefully the form of Barnes, Wood and Vydra make sure they don't again.Silkyskills1 wrote:It's the last two in that list that leave me a tad underwhelmed.

Re: Sam vokes
Would be surprised if we sold Vokes, brings us something that the other strikers don’t. Fans love him, seems very grounded. Chips in with a few goals and makes his fair share, allbeit not pretty at times but who cares. Would be a big miss in my opinion

one of my favorite players and same as many hope he doesn't go but if he wants to for more playing time then we obviously need a new replacement and time is ticking for that, I suppose we will all know by Thursday evening

Re: Sam vokes
Hope he doesn't go. He certainly has a role to play wether that be as a sub or in cup games.
He could easily have 10 or 12 starts and numerous sub appearances, that should be enough to keep him happy.
He knows he isn't the number 1 striker in the team.

Re: Sam vokes
I'd lower our valuation just to move him on for a fee of around £7M. In the final year of his contract and similar to what we have, will free up space for another forward.

Would rather not sell Sam.
Wood looks very injury prone - which leaves us with only Sam with his height and quality in the air. He’s better in the air than any of our strikers.
Plus he’s a big character round the club - you can tell how well he is liked from the various players clips posted.
For the sake of £7m (which we don’t need) i’d keep him - unless Sam wants to go himself in which case i’d be happy to let him go with our blessing as he has served the club brilliantly.
The season with Ings and Vokes banging in 40 goals I still have as our best season of attacking football. I know it was at a lower level but both players were immense and I think Sam with the way he also defended corners was our key player

Vokes for £7mil? Lower our value to sell a fantastic squad player. None of the strikers that we have are better in the air than Vokes. Pathetic if we sell him for anything less than double thatKRBFC wrote:I'd lower our valuation just to move him on for a fee of around £7M. Re: Sam vokes
It's better than losing him for nothing in less than a year, I'd be very happy with Walters, Wells and Vokes out with Rodriguez and Vydra in.DuckworthsEA wrote:Vokes for £7mil? Wells, Walters, Legzdins all need to go long before Sam. All depends if Sam wants to leave to play more games though. I hope he stays tbh

Ben Gibson came to us for what seemed a reasonable fee and perhaps Middlesbrough are expecting the same should they secure the signing of Vokes
Just a thought.

Re: Sam vokes
I'd be disappointed to see Sam go, but can understand it if we get Vydra and JayRod. If we don't get both, then need to keep Sam
Re: Sam vokes
If we get Vydra and Jay Rod I think that would mean the end of Vokes. I'd certainly try and keep him till January, with our potential involvement in Europe and Woods fitness record.
Re: Sam vokes
If it’s a move that Vokes fancies, and we are comfortable that we have the signings in place to cover his departure, it’s one that I would reluctantly agree to.
Better to get a deal done quickly, if it suits all parties and if ‘boro were good to deal with during the Gibson transfer, there’s nothing wrong with demonstrating that we too can be very easy to deal with.

Re: Sam vokes
This without Crouch would be great business. We only need 4 strikers so if we can offload Walters and use Vokes and Wells as either makeweights or cash injections to get Jay Rod and Vydra in then that would leave us with a real fresh and well balanced strike forcejedi_master wrote:Vokes, Wells and Walters out.
Rodriguez, Vydra and Crouch in.
Surely not...
All we'd need then is a Arfield/Clucas style creative midfield player who can play narrow wide or in a central 3 and even I'd be over the moon and championing a great transfer window
