JIMMY Mullen’s pre-match team talk was quite simple.

Having played out a goalless draw at Turf Moor, Plymouth were confident of success in the second leg of this old second division play-off tie.

Too confident in fact, given that they had already booked transport to Wembley.
Not over confidence. It's a gamble I can pay 250 now which I can afford or miss out when they have shot up to 500 by the time you get back from the turf on Thursday.

This is the route I looked at

Flights to Thessaloniki then the train are a cheap option. Ideally Id look to go direct though as yesterday’s journey home wasn’t fun.

Problem is with only one flight a day from Manchester those flights are either gonna sell out immediately or double in price. Can go direct from Luton, but then you have the trouble of getting home from there.

Thessaloniki is a small airport. But quickest one ive ever gone through and just a euro on bus to main station.

No direct flights from Manchester on the Wednesday either as the EasyJet flight is full. It’s gonna be a mission again if we get through.

Can’t do 4 days, need to save annual leave in case we make the group stages. Ideally I could get there Thursday fly back Friday.

Mykonos with ferry is quite cheap or connection flight.

I quite fancy a 4hr boat trip round the greek isle.

soneone somewhere suggested a boat from Ancona in Italy to the south of Greece and then a quick train in. Maybe a flight into Bologna and then train down to Ancona might be worth looking at. Or even flight to Bari where there are boats across to Greece I think.

Just on the off chance, been looking again at flight options to Athens, getting more difficult and expensive to get there. Maybe the club may look at putting a plane on for this one?

There's plenty of different Airports in Britain flying to Athens or Greece.

Where there's a will there's a way.

IF we get to play Olympiacos I am fairly sure the club will be providing travel through Thomas Cook Sport. not sure it will be subsidised though

Tough ask on Thursday, but if we come through it I have to take my hat off to any clarets spending the money to go to Greece to watch us. It's a level of dedication I don't have for sure, and listening to the Burnley faithful in instanbul was quite amazing.

Should be 1500 plus in Athens as it's much easier and affordable.

I'm going on the Monday to get a better price.

I was planning to go but pretty sure work deadlines will scupper it.

For those with BA avios points, there’s currently availability out of Heathrow on the day before the game and coming back on the Sunday.

doesnt sound any easier or cheaper than Istanbul unless you've already booked (seems like average cost has been about 250/300 quid) but for those waiting till the last min it looks like it's going to cost 400/500 again just forflights and I'd imagine some of those who went to Istanbul won't be able to make it due to work/cost, etc. I'm expecting a similar number,, maybe a few more but not that many more purely due to the last min arrangements.

Not booked anything but will be looking at one of islands then on from there. Might have to do Wednesday night in Corfu.

After getting a pass to Istanbul I think this would be really pushing it...and as great is it was, maybe not worth a divorce...

Would say to anyone sitting on the fence though that the experience is fantastic. I’ve watched Burnley in Europe now which i never thought I’d be able to say. I really hope we get through Thursday and more fans get the opportunity.

For me, it’s probably going to be the knockout stage before I can build up enough brownie points for another European adventure :-)

We found 200 quid returns from a little airport this morning but I'm not publicising til I book it for obvious reasons.

Search Skyscanner

Flying From
UK

Flying To
Athens

Choose the dates you want and it’ll list the cheapest airports to fly from.

Do this also “One Way” and you may find its cheaper to fly from one airport and fly back to another

Seen this route myself. Albeit little more expensive.

Unless I’m missing something this will be a case of spending Wed night in Corfu airport and Thu night in Athens airport with no hotel stops at all?

I think the club should run a flight and offer subsidies for those who made the trek out to Istanbul ;-) . A freebie would be nice. There and back on the same day so I can tell the wife it was just a busy day at work :-)

Leisure priced up Istanbul for in and out on the same day and they quoted £800-£1000pp with minimum numbers guaranteed.

Athens isn't much nearer. So maybe £700?

Booked a hotel on a cancellation 24 hours before the night basis for Wednesday and Thursday for three of us in the port.

This morning Swiss Air appear to have added flights that were full last night so booked those on a flexi deal that can be cancelled if we don't get through at a £17 charge.

Leave Manchester 08:45 Wednesday. Stay in Zurich for 90 minutes then arrive in Athens at 16:45

Return Athens 13:25 Friday. Stay in Zurich for 110 minutes then arrive in Manchester at 18:05

Fast tracked through passport control and security arranged at Manchester and the VIP lounge and taxi to the airport will be booked on Friday morning.

We just need to win tomorrow.
