Not over confidence. It's a gamble I can pay 250 now which I can afford or miss out when they have shot up to 500 by the time you get back from the turf on Thursday.RingoMcCartney wrote:May 19, 1994, Plymouth 1 Burnley 3
JIMMY Mullen’s pre-match team talk was quite simple.
Having played out a goalless draw at Turf Moor, Plymouth were confident of success in the second leg of this old second division play-off tie.
Too confident in fact, given that they had already booked transport to Wembley.

Flights to Thessaloniki then the train are a cheap option. Ideally Id look to go direct though as yesterday’s journey home wasn’t fun.
Re: Athens
Problem is with only one flight a day from Manchester those flights are either gonna sell out immediately or double in price. Can go direct from Luton, but then you have the trouble of getting home from there.Granny WeatherWax wrote:Flights to Thessaloniki then the train are a cheap option. No direct flights from Manchester on the Wednesday either as the EasyJet flight is full. Mykonos with ferry is quite cheap or connection flight.
I quite fancy a 4hr boat trip round the greek isle.

soneone somewhere suggested a boat from Ancona in Italy to the south of Greece and then a quick train in. Maybe a flight into Bologna and then train down to Ancona might be worth looking at. Or even flight to Bari where there are boats across to Greece I think.

Just on the off chance, been looking again at flight options to Athens, getting more difficult and expensive to get there. Maybe the club may look at putting a plane on for this one?

Tough ask on Thursday, but if we come through it I have to take my hat off to any clarets spending the money to go to Greece to watch us. It's a level of dedication I don't have for sure, and listening to the Burnley faithful in instanbul was quite amazing.

For those with BA avios points, there’s currently availability out of Heathrow on the day before the game and coming back on the Sunday.

Re: Athens
doesnt sound any easier or cheaper than Istanbul unless you've already booked (seems like average cost has been about 250/300 quid) but for those waiting till the last min it looks like it's going to cost 400/500 again just forflights and I'd imagine some of those who went to Istanbul won't be able to make it due to work/cost, etc. I'm expecting a similar number,, maybe a few more but not that many more purely due to the last min arrangements.

Re: Athens
After getting a pass to Istanbul I think this would be really pushing it...and as great is it was, maybe not worth a divorce...
Would say to anyone sitting on the fence though that the experience is fantastic. I’ve watched Burnley in Europe now which i never thought I’d be able to say. I really hope we get through Thursday and more fans get the opportunity.
For me, it’s probably going to be the knockout stage before I can build up enough brownie points for another European adventure

Athens isn't much nearer. So maybe £700?

Re: Athens
Booked a hotel on a cancellation 24 hours before the night basis for Wednesday and Thursday for three of us in the port.
This morning Swiss Air appear to have added flights that were full last night so booked those on a flexi deal that can be cancelled if we don't get through at a £17 charge.
Leave Manchester 08:45 Wednesday. Stay in Zurich for 90 minutes then arrive in Athens at 16:45
Return Athens 13:25 Friday. Stay in Zurich for 110 minutes then arrive in Manchester at 18:05
Fast tracked through passport control and security arranged at Manchester and the VIP lounge and taxi to the airport will be booked on Friday morning.
We just need to win tomorrow.
